As far as a painter goes, I am somewhere in the middle. I have only been painting for about 5-6 years and taking classes that long so I wouldn't say I was a beginner. I waited for a while to buy the Kolinsky brushes and have to say I really like them. They hold a lot of paint and water. They keep their shape. I just wish the box contained at least one larger size and maybe not the rigger which I rarely use. I would buy these again. Hard to say if these would make a big difference to me when I first started learning so I'm not sure how to rate these for beginners and that's why I chose the middle star!

This is absolutely the best watercolor brush I have ever painted with. The brush holds a ton of paint & water. I was working on a painting with my old red sable brushes when I purchased these brushes which came rather quickly. Upon arrival, I couldn't wait to try them out. WOW!! My ability to paint just jumped up a grade. The Mark Rhapsody Kolinsky Sable Artist Watercolor Paint Brush is outstanding! The flow of the paint on the paper was such an improvement with this brush I was getting better results than I could ever imagine. I am not exaggerating! The brush maintains it's shape perfectly. I will never use another brush for my watercolors.

These are lovely brushes. The first set I received had an unsatisfactory brush (the #2 had stray hairs and split at the tip.) They were replaced very quickly. The second set is fine. I am a beginning watercolorist, so can't give an expert review. Having said that, I like them much more than my Silver Black Velvet brushes. As for value for the money, I can't say, as I am a beginner. The case is really nice to have.

I’m new to watercolors. I had purchased a few brushes, but was looking for a few more sizes. This collection was an investment for me, but so worth it! The quality is great; they’re a dream to paint with. I also found that buying these in this set was definitely a cost savings over buying these brushes separately.

I am a beginner in watercolor and wanted every advantage to do better and learn faster.

Love these sable brushes for watercolors! Everyone in my painting group has CNN purchased a set of these brushes and all of us are very happy with the ease of painting a straight line in a detailed area of our paintings.

just go with the Raphael 8404 (left) the creative mark doesn’t have the same spring and nice point. maybe the brush isn’t what i thought it was or i didn’t luck out with the bristles this time. the pictured Raphael 8504 is 4 or 5 months old - hundreds of hours of paintings. if this brush isn’t worn out in a few months i’ll bump it up a few starts

Kolinsky Sable brushes are always my favorite and anytime I use another brush, I always return to these. They hold water and paint. That is important to me. These brushes are packaged in the Kolinsky traditional box where they are kept when they are dry and not in use.
