Into Necronomicon Magicks? Then Read This Book!
Phil Hine is a unique author, in that he goes into the depths of the underlying currents of Magick, rather than cranking-out just another recipe book of procedures. It's easy to misinterpret his message - thinking he's "just a minimalist" who distains the beloved rites & rituals we love to perform. What I especially like about his works is that he is a boldly and eloquently Occam's Razor, down to the nitty-gritty thinking guy. So he challenges me, especially reminding me to be mindful - really mindful about my beliefs, ideas and actions associated with all Things Magick. What's particularly tasty about this book is that he acknowledges Necronomicon Magick is, in reality, vbased entirely on fiction ... possibly the greatest of American horror fiction, but fiction none-the-less.He the proposes the idea that, even tho' born of fiction, the entities of Lovecraft's stories can and will become as real and alive as any "non-fiction" personalities, depending on our ability to literally suspend disbelief, and authentically Believe. At least one other Reviewer has said folks either love or hate Hines. But I'll have to say I neither do and also do hate and love Hines ... depending on my ever-changing awareness at any given moment in time.If you're considering jumping into the Magicks inspired by the Necronomicon (Simon's version) this is a book you want to read.

Above All Others
I cannot believe there are "NEC" books that are associating Lovecraft Mythos gods to the Nephilimbeings, aligning Cthulhu with the planet Mars, and one book actually saying they will save mankind. The only thing Cthulhu will save you for is his lunch ! (not original - but true)Mr Hine brings the Lovecraftian gods in their rightful state as chaotic entities who can only be dealt with by being in a shamanic state and with Lucid Dreaming. They are wild and viscious and for magicians using the old golden dawn rituals, no redemption will come but a dance with the abyss.Using experience with that tired old albatross the Kabbalah as your guide will send you to your final home in the howling pit of insanity. Mr Hine's book is the only sane way to deal with these Elder and Old beings. So read it and no others. Also do not use incence as the smell of Lovecraftian beings is the first recognition of their appearence.

It is what it is...
This book is either going to be liked or hated by most people. If you know Phil Hine and are familiar with his work then you'll probably like it. if you are asking who is Phil Hine, then this book isn't for you. I personally just bought it to add to my collection of books about chaos magick. I am well aware of the author and have most of his other works so i knew what to expect when i ordered it. Even so, i would not really recommend this to anyone else except another Chaote.

not just a fantasy.
the Cthulhu Mythos IS real !!!i bought and read this book years ago. i may not have agreed with everything Hine wrote (personal aesthetics will, of course, differ), but it was fruitful for the next steps i would take... this being the Cult of Cthulhu. just as inspirational as LaVey's Satanic Bible.yes, the Pseudonomicon became the slimy foundation for our bible, Cthulhu Cult. if you enjoy Lovecraft's FACTUAL cosmology, then definitely take a look. the simon Necronomicon can go to Hell by comaprison.Venger As'Nas SatanisCult of Cthulhu High Priest

A Lot of Fun
This is such a fun book. The power of suspended disbelief can go a really long way. Treat this as an exercise in exploring possibilities without consideration for the material world. You'll have an interesting experience, I promise.

Excellent
This book is a must have for any practitioner of magick, though maybe not for beginners.

The Pseudonomicon by Phil Hine
This chapbook is remarkable but it is just too short. That is why i call it a chapbook as it is more of a pamphlet than a full-length book. He talks proficiently of Lovecraftian & Necronomicon Magick, giving a few short examples. Brilliant work really, just a little too sparse.

Brief, to the point
...and potentially quite useful. I bought this for a few reasons: when I was a teenager & early 20-something I was rather interested in the occult. My opinions have changed over time & I'm now much more the sort of person who looks things up on snopes.com and academic journals, or triple checking facts from a bunch of different news sources before I'll believe anything. I'm an atheist, though much of the time I'll affect a Pastafarian or Discordian attitude. I don't take religion seriously other than to acknowledge the danger of dogma & blind adherence. That said, I know about the placebo effect, and about the power of meditation, affirmations, and to some extent magic - to the extent that I believe that we can make changes in ourselves, focus our will, and by visualisation & so forth on a particular goal, make that goal achievable where previously it was not - with various caveats. So if you asked me if I believe in magic I'd have to say "I believe in what I can see & prove, no more than that".So anyway, there's that, & there was a nostalgic wish to revisit some of that, and I'm trying to put together a GURPS campaign, basically a tabletop RPG adventure set in a medieval-ish sort of world with all the usual monsters etc, but in among them there will be cults, demon-worshippers, insane alchemist type scientists and so on, and deeper under them, there will be Cthulhoid entities, things to cause panic & nightmares in my players. This will be a hellishly good game (muahaha!) - so in a way I read this book to get an insight into the mind of a person who genuinely pursues the magickal arts, someone who knows "This way, madness lies" and who goes on anyway. This book is a great evocation of such a mind. Will I be using this book as intended, to do pathworkings and meditations on the Cthulhu Mythos? Yes, I reckon so. Let's see where this tunnel leads...So, in summary - good book about Cthulhu Mythos things, good book about Chaos Magic, and a pretty good book about insanity. Worth the paltry few quid to get it on Kindle, for sure.

Paura creativa

Insane genius
There are books ABOUT magic and then there are books OF magic. The former are common and frequently complete rubbish. The latter are rare & genuinely mind-expanding. It doesn't matter whether you believe; books of magic change you. "The Pseudonomicon" is most definately a book OF magic. The second-hand prices are ridiculous but accurately reflect this book's desirability! Phil Hine is a far better writer than the majority of authors on magic but even so this is a masterpiece. Don't let the page count put you off; every one is a gem and some will haunt you.

Slimy monsters,
After reading Phil Hines excellent Condensed Chaos and Prime Chaos, this book came as a disappointment.I presume this is the book that started the apparent obsession of chaos magicians with the Cthulu mythos. This mythos was created by H.P.Lovecraft and involves these "Old Ones" who are slimey creepy crawly monsters who live on the edge of infinity. This book is more or less a treatise on how to evoke these undesirables.Who on Earth would want to ?
