Cheap Beginners' Bike
I knew what I was getting when I bought this kit bike. Something cheap to learn how to ride on and how to build/maintenance, and to that end I have really enjoyed my purchase. It's the right size for me (I'm 6'0" 160lb [might be too tall for someone who's like 5'8" or shorter]), is customizable like it has a spot to attach a cargo box (plus a small tool holder above the rear tire which is nice), and has handled all that I've thrown at it so far. As is to be expected at this price point the materials used on this bike are of lower quality than more expensive bikes think softer metals that will get bent and stretched out over time such as clutch cables and the like but that's not why I dinged a star. No, I docked a star because I had to replace the ignition switch right outta the box cause my bike would not quit turning over. It was a cheap fix thought at $10 (though I spent another $15 diagnosing the problem by changing out the relay first). Also of note, you'll have to call the company for the title so that would have been nice to know through like an email and a written/typed note in the box. Anyway, if this is your first bike you won't regret the purchase just check out reviews/maintenance videos online at places like Skyd Control or Moto Cheese before you purchase it. Cheers.

Exceptional Value for DIY
It's a great bike for the price.Extreme value here. There are some things it will need right off the bat. This bike is the best choice for a person that has a bit of knowledge about mechanical components. It's a great simple bike to teach beginners as well. Patience will be helpful if it's your first time, but almost anyone can put this together and service it with some time and dedication.First is the engine oil. It is well known among Hawk owners that the engine oil that it ships with is trash and should be drained before starting the engine. Or after the first start. Replace with Rotella 15w40.Next is the carb. It most likely will need to be adjusted and possibly removed to adjust. If you are not mechanically inclined, this will be a bit of a nuisance, but doable. Another option is carb replacement right away. The nibbi 28mm is highly recommended as an upgrade and is plug and play, with no additional tuning or jetting. It can be purchased on Amazon for around $70.The last big thing I'll mention is the gearing. This is only a concern if you plan to do a lot of riding on the road. If you only want to use this off road, the default gearing will serve you better. For riders who will commute with this and use it on the road regularly, it is recommended to change the front and rear sprockets to 17/45. This helps immensely with cruising speed and increases the time between shifting gears. There is still plenty of low end to tear around off road with this configuration and most riders choose this as the preferred gearing. I personally use this and love it. It was easy to switch the sprockets out and I can't imagine going back.Another thing that is important for street riding is switching the tires out for something with a more moderate tread. The default tires are extremely knobby and it's a wonder they even allow them on the roads at all. I plan to switch mine out soon. Recommended tires for this bike are shinko 244, 700, and 705. There are other brands, but for the money, most people choose these. There are a few other things that can be done to improve airflow and performance, but they aren't necessary to provide a good ride. I opted to add brush guards to the handlebars as well.I have been thoroughly enjoying trail rides and have run it through slash and bumps, over rocks and through 10" of mud with no problems. The fact that you can have something this fun for so cheap, delivered to your door, is amazing.I will probably buy another one soon, but would recommend the dlx to people who have a bit more money and wish to do less maintenance.

Great bike after some work
I bought the bike and ordered upgrade components. Before starting it, i opened airbox, put on Nibbi 28mm carb, coil, NGK plug, new exhaust system, 520 x-ring chain and steel sprockets, fork brace, halogen headlight bulb, footpegs, etc. Changed the oil. Adjusted the valves (make sure you adjust the valves!!!). Added 2.5" fork preload spacer and 15wt oil. Bled brakes. Greased bearings. With this kind of attention to detail... this bike is way better than i imagined it would be. Power is good for 229cc. Accelerates fine in traffing up to 70mph. I am a bit infatuated and in love. For comparison, i am a former A off road racer. For the price, this thing is wildly entertaining and gives you something to tinker with. Registered it in Massachusetts no problem. Company i bought it from (Smart Deals Now) has been good with support and responsive.
