Works well enough
The product is great for the price and what it does. I bought it to fix an unreadable PS1 disc. I read some reviews of it leaving scuffs or rendering a disc useless but I read one review that I felt was really honest so I purchased the item and I am glad I did.First of all this is a repair kit... It isn't for discs that are in perfect condition with minor wear. So don't use it to try and make disc look new so you can sell them as new. It will take out surface scratches that effect gameplay or disc-readability.Anyhow, the product works great but it is not a miracle-maker. The resurfacer will leave noticeable signs of resurfacing. Yes it will leave circular rings on the disc... but it made my disc work like-new and thats what I needed. I repaired 1x, then buffed 3x, then cleaned. I wouldn't use it just to clean or make discs look new. It won't do that, but if you have nothing to lose, this product should help!

Very useful overall
I only refrain from giving this product five stars because of what I've read about the plastic gears and motor wearing out after so many cycles and the high cost of replacing the supplies (which seem to make re-buying the whole unit the more cost effective solution). So there is a built-in "lifespan" to this product. So depending upon what you use it for, it may last through dozens of lightly damaged/dirty discs or it may only fix a few really bad cases. For the price however that may be worth it, depending upon what you're trying to save. I don't have small children at home, but I do have a lot of used discs and I do find my discs smudged sometimes by family or friends who mishandle them (or even my own clumsiness at times). However, that said, of all the "cd/dvd repair" kits I've used over the years, this seems to have the best reputation. It can't work miracles however. While it brought a visibly scratched up, non-working Xbox game "back to life like new" and even makes the surface of worn discs look "like new" it didn't fix a scratched PC game I got on amazon, nor did it fix an old DVD that had a simple "half moon" shaped scuff on the disc surface, even after repeated runs through the "repair" cycles. The pads also started to "flake off" a bit after a lot of buffing cycles, needing to take a rest. I put too much cleaning fluid in the little reservoirs the first time I did it so I had to carefully put them back into the package wet, but that seemed to work okay. This is the type of product I would recommend for anyone who is tasked with cleaning a lot of discs, and especially for the person who occasionally gets "burned" with buying a used disc that has some scuffs or scratches. This will "bring back to life" some discs otherwise designated for the trash, but not all. It certainly seems to do more than the old "lint free cloth with cleaning fluid scrub by hand method" that we all used back in the early days of optical disc media.

Epic Fail
This is a great idea. Too bad it's a horrible product. We bought this because we have a lot of CD/DVD/XBox games and from time to time they get messed up. We had 12 discs that had problems from skips to no play ready to go day one.First problem, this is probably going to come to you via drop ship by a company that does not give a hoot about being on time. It left the drop shippers two days after the shipping window, and arrived 2 days after the arrival window. If you're going to try it anyway, order directly from Amazon and make your return much easier. The device did not fix a single problem. I'm not an idiot. I read the directions. I kept them on hand to make sure that I was doing everything as they suggested. Not one skip, not one pixelation issue, and not a single no play was fixed by this device. It completely destroyed two discs. Fortunately they were already no plays, but it ate into the surface of the discs leaving gouges. All in all i felt like I would have been better off with a belt sander and a bottle of super glue.I would not recommend this product to anyone. If you have discs that need repair, either spend a lot more money for a real disc repair solution, or take them in to get them done by a pro machine (our local video store was able to fix the remaining 10 discs for me, the two that it ate aren't recoverable)

Aleratec machine
I had a very rare collectible DVD that has a very nasty scratch near the center. I was not able at least to make a copy when I remembered that I had bought this Aleratec machine a few years ago ! I tried it, first I made 3 REPAIR cycles, it was not enough, I made 3 BUFFER cycles to lighten the scratch then 3 more REPAIR cycles and the scratch was almost gone. I was now able to make a security copy just incase ! If you know what you're doing and how to use it, this machine is terrific !

A great purchase
For those of you who still believe in discs, weather it's Cd's, Dvd's or even gaming discs. I had one similar to this a long time ago but when I went to search for it, I think this company had bought them out because it was exactly the same as my previous unit. This is good for repairing discs, now keep in mind, it's not going to fix those real deep scratches but if it's slightly deep, it will/should take care of it. I have used it for all my discs, probably for about 15 yrs. Don't overuse it because overuse will be hard on a disc. But when used properly, it's great. The kit includes everything you need - all-in-one.

Quite a useful tool to fix scratched CDs and DVDs.
Quite good. It fixed 3 games and 2 DVDs. I recommend to buy this item, it automatically cleans, repair and buff compact discs. It's very easy to use. 5/5 stars.

Somewhat satisfied
The buffer pad was broken and won't fit into the plastic piece so I can't use the buffer pads. Also I found it doesn't repair all scratches.
