This latest Detail & Scale volume on the F6F Hellcat, authored by Bert Kinzey and Chris Sakal, is a comprehensive look at perhaps the most under-rated fighter of WWII. The 210 pages covers the development, operational history, variants, armaments, paint schemes and markings of the Hellcat. Dozens of detail photos, many in color, illustrate differences in variants and sub-types. In addition, the book is profusely illustrated with detailed line drawings by Dana Bell, and color profiles by Rock Roszak. The expanded modeler's section contains reviews of most of the currently available Hellcat model kits in all scales as of 2020, including a four-page review of the big 1/24 scale Airfix uber-kit of the Hellcat. Though it is geared toward scale modelers, this book is a valuable reference for aviation historians, or anyone interested in WWII fighter aircraft. For the money, it's an exceptional value. Very Highly recommended.

The book is full of useful details about the real F6F which is useful to folks like myself who are modelers and need that level of detail. It's also helpful to see a dedicated section for modelers with good photos and references.

Detail and Scale books are a good publication for any aviation buff who has an interest in the subject aircraft for modeling or for historical purposes. Lots of pictures drawings and text discribing the aircraft.

An excellent history of the HellcatThe book does an excellent job in documentation of all versions of the F6F Hellcat in writing and photos.

Very complete overview of the development history and airframe details. Great photos, perfect companion for anyone detailing the Airfix 1/24 kit.

Great source about the major versions of the F6F and helpful information about models available to model builders.

A very much expanded 2nd edn as an e-book (I have the origin softback and I believe a hard copy can be bought but at much fewer printed pages). There is little to fault these e-books (I have most of them) and I especially buy them for the model kit reviews. Having the 1/24th scale Airfix behemoth to start then this is a mine of information.The sheer breadth of the photographs are another major selling point and being from kindle means I can import it into all my various devices (iPhone/iPad/pc x2/laptop and other mobiles.highly recommended but would have preferred the format to be pdf.

Ich habe zuerst die Ausgabe der P-47 gekauft- jedoch ist dieses Buch über die Hellcat nicht so gut gelungen.- nahezu keine historischen Farbfotos- unzureichende Details über die Fahrwerksschächte- weitgehend fehlende Details über den Klappmechanismus der Tragflächen- nur ein kleines Bild der geteilten LandeklappenFür realitätsnahe Modellbauer nicht unbedingt notwendig- da gibts im Internet mehr und besseres.

I am very happy with this volume.I am currently building Airfix’ 1/24 scale Grumman Hellcat model and this book is providing so much detail in words and photographs of the full size airplane which will help me to make an even more accurate model.Excellent! Would recommend it to anyone with any kind of interest in the Hellcat.

Texte und Fotos/Zeichnungen sind wie immer in dieser Reihe sehr hilfreich beim Bau des entsprechenden Modells. Modellbauer sind meiner Meinung nach auch die Hauptzielgruppe. Jedoch ist mir schon beim ersten Durchblättern aufgefallen, dass die Druckqualität insbesondere der Fotos, wie auch die Papierqualität eher an zu Hause Ausgedrucktes oder an den Copyshop erinnern. Ich würde es als mittelmäßige Laserdrucker-Qualität bezeichnen. Ein Blick auf die letzte Seite gibt einen Hinweis auf einen möglichen Grund: Dieses Buch wurde im Auftrag von Amazon in Deutschland (Leipzig) gedruckt. Ich habe viele ältere Bücher aus dieser Reihe und muss sagen, dass ich von dieser neuen Ausgabe enttäuscht bin. Eine Leseprobe der Kindle-Ausgabe zeigt, dass die Fotoqualität ursprünglich sehr viel besser ist, als im Druck dann umgesetzt wurde. Wenn man jedoch „echte“ Bücher den e-Books vorzieht, sollte man vielleicht auf andere Literatur zum gleichen Thema zurückgreifen. Hier gibt es ja ziemlich viele zur Hellcat.
