Major League (1989)
''Free admission to anyone who was actually alive when the Indians last won a pennant.''I love Major League (1989), starring Tom Berenger (Platoon, Shattered), Charlie Sheen (Platoon, Wall Street), and Corbin Bernsen (LA Law, Shattered). This is one of the best sports movies of the 1980s (others include Eight Men Out (Sheen), the Karate Kid trilogy, the Rocky Sequels, and Youngblood). Major League also stars Margaret Whitton, Dennis Haysbert, Wesley Snipes, Charles Cyphers, James Gammon, Rene Russo, Andy Romano, and Bob Uecker. This classic sports comedy is about a baseball team, the Cleveland Indians, who haven't won a pennant in years. So she can move the club to Miami, the owner Rachel Phelps (Whitton) has to get the attendance down from 800,000. She instructs her General Manager Charlie Donovan (Cyphers) to purposely put together what she believes is a useless team, her idea being that if the Indians finish dead last hardly anyone will bother to turn up and watch them. However, when they become wise to her scheme, the Indians start trying to win ...I don't know what DVD edition this review will become attached to (who knows with Amazon), but if you are interested in the special features, go for the 'Wild Thing'' Special Edition, which offers not only commentaries but an alternative ending. The DVD I have is the Paramount release (ASIN: B00006F7IM), NTSC Region 1 US/CAN, which has no extra features. It does have a good quality picture. It is exactly the same as the VHS version I used to own in 1990, so has not been cut or extended.

Root For The Underdog!
I use to watch this film with my dad on VHS back in the day, so I saw it on blu ray and figured I would give it a chance. I'm pleased to say that blu ray arrived quickly and worked perfectly, I wasn't sure it would being an import.Yes, I know the film rips of the Paul Newman movie Slap Shot but it is a great movie about a bunch of misfits that have to work together as a team when everything and everyone is against them.Have to say Charlie Sheen rocks.

This is much more than a game of baseball
Even if you don't understand baseball, this is a great movie in its own right

Region free, it works on Blue Ray
Bought the Blue Ray DVD with the extra scenes well worth the extra money, as it says it is region free but must be played on DVD Blue Ray player, perfect picture and sound. Took me back all those years when I first saw it and loved it again this time. Have the tape version but cannot play without extra cables, VHS player, this more than makes up for it.

Get me Vaughn!
One of our favorite movies! Been trying to find this for region 2 for years, but I got this due to the other reviewers stating that as this is a Blue-ray, it will work only on blue-ray players. Took the chance and got it. So glad I did!Wild Thing, you make my heart sing!

Any baseball fan will love it
It is just like every other baseball movie I have ever seen - corny and full of well known actors hamming it up for all they are worth. Yet this movie is just in another class. Tom Berengert and Charlie Sheen give it a bit of Hollywood glitz and Wesley Snipes appears in one of his early starring roles. For me, the real star was baseball "legend" Bob Uecker, as the local radio commentator.

Major League
This is a comedy (some very funny moments), come serious story of a struggling sporting team and how it gathers faith and ability in itself to win the premiership. I feel this could be used as an inspirational and training film for any adult sporting team of how to believe in themselves and win
