The Paladin Prophecy: Book 1

Not what I thought but good.
This was completely different than what I thought it was going to be . It drops so many bread crumbs of different genres you don't know if you're dealing with aliens , supernatural or an Illuminati sort of thing but it still holds your interest and was entertaining.

Well Written Young Adult Modern Fantasy
This recommendation showed up on my Amazon account, so I downloaded the sample and was hooked in the first few pages. The author knows how to write and had me turning the virtual pages with eagerness to find out what was going to happen next. One of the things I find difficult in any work of fiction is reading about things that simply don't make sense. There is very little in this book that isn't logical. While in any fantasy, we readers are always willing to suspend disbelief, I find there's a limit. When things begin to make no sense at all, we get annoyed. This book avoids this issue with skill. The events and setup for the events for the book are almost too fantastical for belief, but the author presents them in a way that makes them very believable -- for the most part. There is still some extremely high-tech science that isn't completely explained away (yet). Maybe we'll get a better explanation in a future book or maybe we can piece together how the ultra high-tech works based on what we know. I could imagine a reasonable explanation. While there is a unexpected savior for our main protagonist, the author avoids a deus ex machina by setting it up properly in the very beginning. Likewise, we never come face-to-face with a mid-chapter point of view switch (like I've seen in a few recent publications of late) causing me to wonder who is who.I don't want to give too much away because the book is full of surprises, and you need to read through them to experience the full page-turning joy of discovery. To elaborate on the "jacket description", our hero Will West (not William because his parents wanted to name him the opposite of "Won't"), finds he's being followed by a mysterious unmarked car on his way to school one day. While at school, a woman from a very private and somewhat secretive school for the ultra-gifted (think Hogwarts but without the magic), visits his school and pulls Will out of class to talk about the exceptional score he made on a "standardized" test he recently took.At this point, we already know that there is something very special about Will and that he's moved around a lot of his life and that his parents have worked very hard to train him to be very careful about tipping his hand, so to speak, about the special gifts and talents he possesses. In fact, on the way to school, he accidentally runs a mile in just over three and a half minutes without really trying. We find out later that Will didn't intentionally flub this standardized test, but he did finish a four hour exam in about 20-minutes, answering all of the questions with the first thought that popped into his head. He figured that would be enough to cause him to miss enough questions to appear average. Unfortunately, he actually answered every question correctly. Hence, his "big mistake" in bringing unwanted attention on his extraordinary abilities. You see, right there, we have a very reasonable mechanism provided to us readers as to how Will West "accidentally" scored so high on a test he was only supposed to score "average" on.The book description makes it seem that his parents disappear. They don't, but when his mother shows up to the school to receive the "wonderful news" of Will's academic test achievement, she both is and isn't his mother. Likewise, his dad is away on a trip (but on his way home -- I will leave it at that for now). With an all-expenses-paid invitation to this extremely private and expensive school hanging over his head and his mother not really being his mother (but she is), the mysterioius people after Will heat-up the chase. Thus begins Will's adventure. I think you will not regret reading the rest for yourself.

much better than expected!
i often order several books at a time, and they sit stacked on my desk as my "to read pile", and once theyre read they're moved to my "there's no more room on my bookshelf" pile. this book sat in my to be read pile for several months. i kept deciding to bump it down the list because i did not think i would be that happy with it. i however was pleasantly surprised. in short: will west, a 15 year old high school track runner who's lived his life under his parents rules to stay under the radar discovers that he's accidentally placed so high on a national test he's being offered a full ride to the best private school there is, and that his parents paranoia might have been well founded. once in his new school after a harrowing escape from strange men in black caps and crazy invisible monster, he only finds that his new world at the Center may not be as far removed from the conspiracies he escaped back home. what i liked about this story is that the characters are all very believable and have great chemistry, even between the protagonists and antagonists. the extraordinary abilities people exibit are very interesting and the mysteries always make you want to know more. its a fun story with good comic relief, suspenseful encounters, and an enduring mystery i cant wait to learn more of when the next book comes out. it was also nice to be reading a story from the point of view of a male as much young adult these days is geared towards the female market and have a female lead. im guessing all to hinge on the giant fanbase that can form like has for the ubiquitous vampire drivel out there. i know theres other male leads in other series, i just havent read them yet. i went in to this expecting something with lame thrills and a textbook plot but was floored by how much i enjoyed it. it was by and far much better written than i expected, a lot of fun. my only real complaints are the cringe worthy things that come out of one of his friends mouths, but you just get used to it as its his personality, and another character's thick australian accent. not just saying "g'day" or whatever, but practically everything out of his mouth seems to be a turned phrase that you'll have never heard before. i think he was put in there to try to make a distinguishing character for the series, but i wish it just wasnt laid on so thick. those two are what stole the 5th star from the book. but dont let that dissuade you. its a fun modern school aged mystery with a lot of supernatural underlinings. i mean things like hidden powers and alternate dimensions, not werewolves and ghosts. all of that is layered over a long brewing conspiracy that is coming to fruition and which not only centers on the lead, but may hinge the fate of the whole world on it. if that sounds interesting, i doubt you'll regret the read, and i bet you'll look forward to the next installment.

5*! Best YA book I've read in 2016
Will West is a runner and he is about to need to run for his life. Literally. He gets pulled out of class one day and told he's won a scholarship to an exclusive boarding school. Enter strange demons, mythical creatures and a guardian angel, and Will starts to realise that his life is not what it seems. The Paladin Prophecy is an exciting, engaging YA fantasy and the first in what I have a feeling, will be an awesome trilogy. For obvious reasons I would rexommend to fans of Harry Potter, but it is worth noting that the two are completely different.I did get a little confused with the syn-apps and virtual reality aspect and am still unsure that it for properly, but The Paladin Prophecy is a definite contender for Best Book of 2016. A very solid 5*.

Sehr gutes kurzweiliges Buch

Harry Potter meets Marvel!
Sehr actionreiche Unterhaltung.
