Enjoyed the ride
Story went fairly well but honestly, I enjoyed book 1 the best. I was never able to really get into the characters and plot this time, still, an enjoyable book.

Another intriguing Emma Holden book
The One You Fear: Emma Holden Suspense Mystery Trilogy, Book 2 is by Paul Pilkington. It is a fantastic book in a trilogy. It is set near London.Emma Holden is finally back with Dan Carlton. Dan had been kidnapped by the Father of a man who loved Emma; but who had died. He was kidnapped on the eve of their wedding and Emma had had no idea where he was. Now he has been rescued and they are off on a trip to try to get back on an even keel. Instead of relaxing, they talk about what had happened and talk about the feelings they have of his being kidnapped. Then they discover they are being followed and Emma is certain he is Stephen Myers. How will they find out if the man following her is Stephen Myers? What happens when they figure out two different men are following her? What do they know that Emma needs to know? There are many twists and turns before this book is finished. Now on to book three.

Valentine's Day and i couldn't put the book down
I did not know there was a book 1; therefore, I don't know if this book was better or worse. I was confused at first with all of the characters; therefore, I had to have a cheat sheet. Once I got that established and got into the book, I could hardly put the book down. There are so many mysteries in each twist of the story. I was happy that I had finished the book before bedtime only to find out there is more to Emma, Dan, Lizzy, and Will's future. I had to buy the 3rd one to see what does happen. I am not much of a fiction reader, but this book did keep my interest - even on Valentine's Day. I will not start the book tonight for fear that I may lose sleep by reading it all night. For those, that didn't want to pay for another book, I question less than $5.00 for a book as expensive. Thank you Paul P. for writing this book.

No sex, no gore, no profanity...but, incredibly, still a good story!
The story line is addictive (and I am now finishing the final book in this 3-book series) and deserves a 5 star rating, but the writing tends to be a little clumsy. For example, after having read a lot about these characters, I still was unable to form a consistent image of what anyone looked like (all I know about Lizzy is that she has strawberry blond hair and blue eyes...tall? short? long hair? short hair? pretty? plain? can't tell). In the last book, I finally read that Emma, the main character, has dark hair, but otherwise her primary descriptions were simply "beautiful" and "photogenic." Likewise, describing an area as "beautiful" doesn't lead to that "sense of place" writing instructors are always urging students to create; don't tell the reader, show him/her. Dialogue tended to be a bit stilted. If the goal of outstanding writing is that you are not aware of the writer, Mr. Pilkington was a little too often present. Also worth noting for the conservatives among us, the book contained no sex or profanity which is pretty amazing these days. (Hey Hollywood, a good story with no risqué anything and not a single F bomb in the whole three-part series...are you listening?) Anyway, overall the story was suspenseful enough to keep me going through the entire series so apparently I was able to overlook the above issues and just read.

One word...SUSPENSE!
I chose only four stars because of one of the twists. However extremely clever I feel as though it could have been a bit better. This book though, is absolutely incredible. Paul Pilkington has written a phenomenal second book. The way he writes keeps you wanting to read as much as you can. We all watch and or hear stories like these and never think it could happen to us. However, these books truly make you think about the choices you make and, the ones you surround yourself with. I can't wait to read the third and final installment. If you love mystery-thrillers, these books are definitely for you.

Fabulous!
The One You Fear is a great sequel to The One You Love. It kept me on the edge of my seat and I could not stop reading it. I finished the entire book in one day. It has an excellent plot and I love that the story line stayed the same without a lot of changes so you felt like you were still reading the same book just the next chapter.I recommend these books to anyone who wants a good story and a lot of action. I can not wait to read the next one and see where the characters lives go to next.I think Paul Pilkington is a fantastic author and I keep wanting more and more from him. I can't wait to continue reading his books and enjoying his work. Great job Paul!

Could have gone either way. Went the wrong way
There's a bit in the first book where someone listens to an explanation of the convoluted goings-on and says, "OK, sounds plausible." That's pretty much how it goes, nothing really sounds in the least plausible, but you want to give it the benefit of the doubt. I still like the writing style, but the plot is so full,of holes, nobody from any profession or walk of life follows common procedure, and the implausibility is getting to be just too much of a stretch. What was forgivable in the first of the trilogy just grates even more. There's one point where, if a character refers to their friend by name, it will blow the gaff that the friend is using a false name, but rather awkwardly, and conveniently, they say "my colleague" instead of referring by name. This is just one small example of the kind of stretched reality that gives it all a lack of believability. There was no real need for them to be using a false name anyway. Things like this had me screaming at the book at times, telling the characters to just behave like normal people and make normal decisions. I'd hoped for an improvement following a reasonably promising first instalment, but unfortunately it went the other way.

Great Sequel
I read this straight after reading "The One You Love". Again, it had that 'difficult to put down' feeling, although I get the feeling this was a bit shorter than the first book, as I comfortably read this in a couple of hours. The story picks up four weeks after the shocking events that the first book ended on. Emma, Dan and co. want to move on from those events, but there's a few people out there determined not to let that happen. There's a few new characters, plus a few older villans making a return. The story itself is a bit lighter than the first book, and although there were surprises, I could tell which characters (outside of Emma, Dan, Lizzy and Will) were the ones who were going to have the biggest impact on how the story turned out.It is still a good read and worth reading if you have read the first.

Book
Pt 2 of trilogy and as fast and furious as book 1, still w same excitement, still being thrown about by fate, still no idea who's done it - love it....am now hooked on this author and can't wait for 3 of trilogy...cannot put them down - locked into characters from v start - someone's put a lot of thought into this book and a v cunning and skilful writer - tight, weaves rings around the reader - ne of best writers I've ever found - would certainly highly recommend - Squirrel 59 - Thur 9.4.15

good suspense
I really enjoyed the suspense and twists and turns in this book. The only thing i found a bit odd was the rather rushed ending. I won't spoil it for readers but the final bit at the end was a bit unexplained- also, as the policeman- Cullen- was never told about Anna being missing, how would he know how to find them and how would he know what Sam's voicemail message was about?maybe i misread that bit or missed a page. Otherwise I thought this was a pretty good read.

Disappointed
I feel quite cheated with this book. Having enjoyed the suspense of "The One You Love", I was looking forward to continuing the story and finding out who dunnit. "The One You Fear" is SO ridiculously short, it should have been part of the original book which would have made far more satisfactory reading. 10% of this book was previewed at the end of "The One You Love" which cut reading down even more. I couldn't get into this book with the same intensity at all.
