Mark Knopfler: Night in London PAL format

I am lucky enough to have an Oppo Universal blu-ray player, so this PAL disc played just fine for me. This is an obviously recorded for TV performance (BBC), with a 4:3 aspect ratio and stereo-only audio track. Except for a couple of songs, this entire performance finds Kopfler in a decidedly down-tempo, almost melancholy mood. The talented supporting musicians are first rate, but are not presented very well here in a decidedly low-fidelity audio recording, especially considering it was made in 1996, when much better techniques were readily available. Enjoyable, but not the best Knopfler out there.

BE CAREFUL ABOUT DVD FORMAT. I ordered this and it would not work on my more recent Blu Ray player. However it did work on my older Denon Home Theatre system which seems to offer more format choices. It appears to be in PAL format although it was listed as multi format. When I move form my Denon player I may be out of luck, but for now it works for me. I'll cross that bridge later.

Wonderful performance, excellent-quality production. Mark Knopfler's performances are always a delight, and he surrounded himself with gifted musicians for this performance.I had no problem playing the DVD using multimedia drives I use with my computers.

When I bought this, I thought it did all formats since it mentioned PAL. They should be clear that it doesn't do the other formats. I sent it back within the next two days and they charged a restocking fee. Also, it came with the case cracked and damaged!

Loved this one Mark Knopfler at his best.

The DVD would not play on either of my two DVD players, as it came up with location error. I think it is in a format that will not play on USA DVD players. Fortunately Amazon let me send it back and I was able to get a refund for it.

Great DVD Has some Dire straits classics like Brothers in arms and the wonderful Romeo & Juliet. The rest of the dvd is made up of his solo work. I particularly like Darling Pretty. I actually first saw this show on youtube but decided to by the DVD since youtube can be unpredicable and delete stuff without warning. As a guitar player myself I love watching the ease and elegance that Mark Knopfler plays. A true guitar god who has magic in his fingers.

I'm a great fan of the smaller, more inimate concerts available. This one, like that of The Corrs unplugged, Lisa Stansfield at Ronnie Scotts and Clapton Unplugged, is absolutely magical. The big arena spectaculars are often a disappointment. Sometimes the atmosphere is lacking and the audio can be echoey, as in Bon Jovi at Madison Square Garden. The atmosphere here is fantastic, the video quality is very very good and the audio, although only stereo, is spot on. This is a very good stereo mix, with plenty of base to it. Turn it up and it sounds little different to 5.1 audio.Mark is surrounded by some wonderful musicians and the result is a beautifully presented concert experience. It's a bit like they're playing in your living room. Personally, I loved the set list, with my own favourites being Romeo and Juliet, Brothers in Arms and We're in Trouble Now. However, all tracks are excellent. Mark Knopfler is a class act and so is this dvd.

A must for any Mark Knopfler fan. Seen him live in concert. WOW. Listened to him on this DVD WOW.He has got some of the best musicians around. LOVED IT. Need more please.
