Pentek DGD-2501-20 Dual-Gradient Sediment Filter Cartridge is designed to reduce fine sediment in residential drinking water. In addition to sediment reduction the Dual Gradient technology provides true depth filtration with high dirt loading capacity resulting in extended life. Performance includes optimal flow at low pressure drop suitable for applications requiring high flow such as Point of Entry (whole home) that supply multiple water using appliances. This cartridge also includes a 1 micron rating of which provides fine sediment reduction. This cartridge meets National Sanitation Foundation/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 42 for material requirements only. Do not use with water that is microbiologically unsafe or of unknown quality without adequate disinfection before or after the system.Designed for most residential drinking water applications. Pentair water filters are manufactured in the form of replaceable cartridges that fit inside housings designed to perform as a filtration system. Filtration systems can consist of a single stage or multiple stages, using one, two or more types of filter cartridges to reduce multiple contaminants. The performance of filter cartridge is measured by the minimum particle size that is blocked and the type of unwanted contaminants it is designed to reduce. Additional performance factors include the maximum flow rate, and the capacity or amount of water that can be filtered before the filter must be replaced. Water cartridge filters are used in a wide range of drinking water applications including Point of Entry (whole home) installations and Point of Use (undersink applications). Pentair manufactures residential, industrial, and commercial water filtration components and systems. The company, founded in 1966 and headquartered in Minneapolis, MN

Beware of fake 3rd party filters sold as Pentek originals
I renew this filter annually on my well water treatment system. It's brownish but not clogged when replaced and my house water seems fine in taste and appearance. Based on these unscientific observations I have to assume the filter is working properly by removing the last traces of sediment after the main treatment (acid neutralisation and softening). The last shipment I received was a fake 3rd party filter passed off as an original Pentek. No Pentek label and it wasn't even the correct diameter (4-1/4 instead of 4-1/2 inches). I assumed selecting a Marketplace Merchant fulfilled by Amazon would be safe, but that was not the case for COMPLETE FILTRATION SERVICES INC. If I wanted a 3rd party item there's plenty of options available on Amazon for half the price of the Pentek original. The filter has been returned to Amazon but it's the merchant who is at fault and should be held accountable. The photo shows an original Pentek and the fake. Buyer beware.

I'm very happy with the performance of my system and how well ...
I just finished installing a complete whole house water filtration system. I used only pentek filters and housings. I'm very happy with the performance of my system and how well it all went together. Here's a breakdown of the all the components I used in my system. I went to great length researching what works and found it wasn't easy going thru each pentek filter and it's function. The goal was to reduce some sediment, iron deposits from old iron pipes and remove any chemical taste. The water tastes great now and is crystal clear.Components:-Pentek Big Blue 20" Filter Housings-Housing Bracket for Big blue 10" and 20" filterFilters IN ORDER:1-Pentek DGD-2501-20 Spun Polypropylene Filter 20 micron dual stage to 1 micron.2-Pentek 155263, RFFE20-BB Radial Flow Iron Removing Filter3-Pentek RFCC-BB Carbon Filteryou can add another Filter after the Carbon for media if you want. Not necessary but is an option or run 2 sediment filters in beginning of the system.-Various copper pipes and PVC pipes to build the system. I highly recommend a bypass valve and a way to shut off the water to your filters if you need to change them without losing water pressure to the house.-I experienced nearly 0 PSI drop thru the 3 filters and no noticeable change in flow rate.

Nice filter and good fit for the big blue.
Fits the 20 inch big blue perfectly. Keep some replacement o-rings on hand as after some time the will lose their form and leak. I installed this in the water line coming into the house from my well between the well and the pressure tank. Specifically in front of a water treatment system intended to reduce lime scale in my water. Plus I was tired of cleaning aerators on my faucets. I know the filter is working immediately as there is no longer particles in my water. A strange side effect is getting brown or blackish streaks in my toilet bowls where the water streams down from the tank at the rim of the bowls. This happened at a previous property I had where I installed a filter system on an existing water system. After a couple of months this cleared up and I expect it will this tie as well. Is this because the water is now more clean and the lines are clearing up? Not sure but as this happened on a previous property this leads me to believe this filter is doing its job.

Great filter, but CA Prop. 65 Warning
Pentair / Pentek claims this product is 100% polypropylene (PP), then why does it have a California Prop. 65 warning? Polypropylene is not on the cancer-causing list. I am taking one star off for that. My guess is the product itself is 100% PP, but the plastic wrap that the product comes in is not. But who knows, maybe the product is not 100% PP.

Works well, very little pressure difference.
I installed one of these pre-water softener when I was installing the softener. Really didn’t expect it to pick up much since we are on city water. Boy, was I wrong. This filter went exactly six months. Can you tell which one is the new one? Yikes.

Best sediment filter I've used
I love this Pentek dual gradient filter. My current whole house filter system is only using two housings, so I need to remove as much as possible in the pre-filter to prevent clogging in my second stage, which is a carbon block. This Pentek seems to be around 80% 25 micron filter media, with just a smaill amount of 1 micron near the center, which works out just about perfectly for me.The area I live in has extremely high iron and sediment levels due to age of the supply pipes and one of these 20 inch filters typically lasts me around 60 days before it's completely orange and dripping dingy water upon removal from the housing. I've tried multi-gradient filters before as well, but they generally only last 30 days at most before I have pressure issues. And if I use a single grade 1 micron filter, it just gets a huge amount of garbage built up on the surface and I start losing pressure within a week or so.

Caught a decent amount of dirt even on city water.
I had this filter installed for about 7 months and changed it only because it was the new year and wanted to see the status of the filter. My house is on city supplied water and the filter caught a fair amount of dirt. When I dumped the filter and canister into a bucket there was a good mount of dirt sitting in the sump and you could see the gradient filter doing it’s job.Never noticed any signs of pressure loss during the 7 months. I replaced this filter with another one. I plan on going a full year this time

Excelente

Not recommended for well water that's high in iron and sulfur
I had to replace this filter after only a month. The pours quickly clogged with the iron and sulfur particles in my water. I have used filters in the past that have lasted 8-9 months on the same well before the water pressure goes down so much to let me know it's time for a change. However, those filters were close to $100. I hoped to get the same performance at a much reduced price. All this said, these filters may not have any issues when used in well water that isn't high in iron or sulfur.

Great Price
We use this filter as part of a whole house 3 filter system - 2 polyspun and then a carbon filter. Our well water is high in iron and sodium and after filtration we produce lovely tasting, sparkling clean water.
