Captains of the City Streets (New York Review Children's Collection)

A classic children's book...highly recommended

The entire series is great for cat lovers. Since these books were written in the twentieth century, I had to explain or even change some of the words for a young child. Nevertheless, Jenny the cat is a very exciting character to her.

Circa 1969 I named my first cat Jenny after Jenny Linsky, so I was delighted to find the Cat Club books again. They're still a great read, and the stories are still relevant and meaningful for today's kids.

The Jenny Linsky books are so delightful it is surprising that they have not been picked up and ruined by some savvy merchandising conglomerate. This one focuses on Sinbad and the Duke, two stray cats in New York City who are suspicious of but intrigued by the the "civilized" members of the Cat Club. Each cat in the series is given a distinct personality and, although the books were written some time ago, the stories are not at all dated. We first introduced our daughter to them when she was in kindergarten, and she still enjoys them as a 10-year-old tween. Highly recommended.

I loved the cat club when I was a kid, now I'm sharing the series with grandchildren. "Captains of the City Streets" is good, but start with "Jenny and the Cat Club".

This is another great story about Jenny. My six-year-old granddaughter loves these stories and I love reading them to her.

Another wonderful book from the Cat Club author Esther Averill. My third grader was delighted by this story (she's read the whole series) and did her book project on it. Wonderful cat characters and witty. A delightful read and we recommend the whole series.

The author addresses many issues children face though a group of adventurous savvy cats .

Bought the whole series of these for my granddaughter. She absolutely loves them. Such lovely stories. Would definitely recommend.

Great book for young children.

This set of books is absolutely amazing. Read "Jenny and the Cat Club" first. When Sinbad and The Duke finally stumble across the meeting of the Cat Club, my kids were so freakin excited. It was amazing to see their little faces light up. Nothing else like it. Fantastic book that creates kid-level suspense like nothing else.
