Import Tooling Leather 9/10 oz Natural Belt Blanks/Strips from Exclusive Vegetable Tanned Leather by Sepici Tannery (1-1/4" x 50")

Most reviews seem to say that this leather is really clear which leads me to believe that mine was a fluke, but mine had probably the worst scarring I've had on a piece of leather. It wasn't unusable, and I was able to tool over it to the point that it isn't really noticeable anymore, but if I wanted a clear surface I would've been disappointed. Still, for the price you cant expect Herman Oak quality, and I'd probably buy it again because it's priced reasonably.

Pleasantly surprised with sepici leather, it is almost perfect.I rated this leather 5 stars above, even though my true rating is 4 out of 5, because I saw 1 star reviews due to the leather being "too thick".. maybe dont buy 9-10 oz leather if you need thin leather.Here are my impressions, good and bad:1. I buy leather from a leather shop. I only bought this because I needed it the next day. I didnt think it would be real veg tan, but it definitely is.2. The quality is great, very little scaring. (only 6in at the end, youd probably cut this off if you were making a belt for a human of normal width) the rest of the strip is close to perfect appearance wise.3. This strip is actually the dimensions stated in the listing, a full 3 in. Most strips are usually just shy of what they're labeled as (ex. 1.375 for a 1.5in strip)The negative- (all stemming from 1 issue)1. This leather was rolled so effin tight, the grain is slightly stretched because the radius is so severe. I conditioned it, laid it flat, and I'm hoping it improves now that its unrolled.2. This leather was rolled so effin tight, it slightly distorted if you look at the edge down along the side. It's slightly wavy/ not straight but I think it was actually cut straight.3. The biggest bummer is due to (you guessed it) the leather being rolled so effin tight. Where they started rolling the strip it's almost folded. they must realize this isnt the best method because fortunately they sacrificed the end with slight scaring. Because scar tissue is less flexible then normal grain, there is actually a .25 inch scar that cracked where the leather was tightest/at the end. I can cut off a few inches so this isnt a huge deal to me. You could also fold this part around a buckle so itd be the back.

The media could not be loaded.  This is an excellent blank, it is even in tone and has no imperfections. Im new to leatherwork so i just took a stab in the dark for the oz weight and thickness, i got the 9-10 oz size and its perfect, just the thickness i was looking for. It looks the same thickness as a custom belt i had made about 12 years ago (shown in photo) that is still going stong, i dont wear it constantly but that was the quality i was looking for. I decided it was more cost effective to order the 3" width so I could cut in half to make 2 belts. I got the 3 x 50 size and it's actually 54" long so I got more for my money. I've already ordered 2 more blanks in the 3 1/4 x 50 and 3 1/4 x 55 size.

From about 5 venders I’ve used these have outperformed the others from thickness, length, strength, and absorption of dyes . Will be my main vendor from now on.

I ordered 2 strips for belts 1 11/4 and 1 1 1/2 both arrived absolutely perfect and absolutely flawless .. 2 of the cleanest prettiest pieces of leather I've ever seen.. thank you I had to order 1 more for another belt and it arrived in the same condition.. I will not buy leather from any other company from now on if the leather i recurve is half as nice as these were.. here's a pic, already finished the 1 1/4 and the 1st 1 1/2 and started on my 2 me 1 1 /2.. I used this to make several strops/hones for tool sharpening. It's perfect for the job with dense smooth leather. The smooth hide side makes a good strop and the suede side makes a good hone when loaded with green compound
