A great read and comes with very practical recipes
Probably one of my best purchases in the cookbook category. Recipes are simple and good. It is a good read even if you don’t cook. If you like Rome, you will love the book. I have made baked peaches with crushed almond biscottis multiple times this summer.

Authentic Italian cookbook
This book has wonderful recipes and delightful stories about the writer's experiences in Italy. Since I lived there many years, it makes me very nostalgic for the food, the city (Rome) and the culture.

Written From the Heart
Rachel Alice Roody cooks and writes from her heart and her heart belongs in Italy. Her pragmatic and enthusiastic reasearch, studies with local chefs and purveyors is the best inforation available to readers. Rachel's words glow when she describes the riches found in the Roman markets and shops, visits with her butchers, cheese mingers, bakers, fish sellers and produce growers, all bought to be transformed into magnificent feasts in her kitchen in Testaccio. A wonderfully written book, one of recipes, Italy's produce, and love ❤️

A joy to read and better to cook!
I'll read anything Roddy puts out there, and her recipes are perfect for cooks who like to riff off of basics. She gives enough guidance and instruction to follow step by step, and somehow each recipe feels complete but also open to interpretation. The only downside is you'll want to move to Italy immediately just to live above a bakery and shop in the markets!

Wonderful food, delightful descriptions and stories
The recipes are authentic, woven into some of the most wonderful food writing I have ever enjoyed...sensual descriptions of produce and pasta paired with a passionate love of Italian culture and people, not to mention food. Even if I don't have time to cook as often as I would like, Ms. Roddy's writing is like sitting with a friend who lives in Rome and is home for a visit. Delightful!

A wonderful reflection on life in Rome.
There is something about Rachel Roddy that is eminently likeable. Reading her book or her blog you are transported to her kitchen table, and even though you've never met her it feels like she's an old friend filling you in on all that's been going on in her life. And of course, the recipes are keepers. I finally learnt how to not mess up carbonara thanks to her and it's now a weeknight staple.

Well worth a look
I've only recently discovered Rachel Roddy and LOVE her style of cooking - simple and few ingredients with excellent results. However, the style of the book itself rather disappointed me as it was heavily interspersed with life, anecdotes, photographs etc which I would have enjoyed as a separate book, but made the actual recipes seem lost within it. Sadly, I returned it for this reason but ordered her other book, Two Kitchens, instead, which is similar but much clearer to concentrate on the recipes alone. (The book is a good read too when you're not cooking!). Do buy one or the other if you're interested in cooking (and eating!) good, simple, honest, tasty food - Rachel Roddy is all these, and more.

Duplicate warning
Please be very careful when buying this book entitled "Five Quarters" - apart from the different title / cover image, it is the exact same as the book by the same author entitled "My Kitchen in Rome". If you have the latter already, don't buy this one unless you want a double with a different cover.

Bellissimo
I just love the way Rachael writes, with background or an anecdote for most recipes. I am familiar with the Testaccio area and the market, so while reading this stuck at home in the UK, it just brought back some wonderful memories.

A beautiful cook book for anyone who enjoys real, everyday Italian cooking.
This is a beautiful cook book. Rachel Roddy writes so well, the photographs of Italy are great and the recipes are brilliant. I love all the anecdotes she weaves around the recipes. I take the Guardian newspaper on Saturday especially to see the cooking section - she’s one of the best contributors and I am always disappointed if she not in it - I look forward to reading her article every.time.

A winner!
I love this book! My partner lived in Rome for many years and he's an excellent cook but never uses cookbooks. He has made an exception for this one however! We've tried nearly everything and you really can't go wrong! Each dish has turned out perfectly and the recipes are authentic and easy to follow. If I had to choose one book from my huge collection, it would be this one.
