MacGregor Batting Tee

The tee is a staple for anyone that wants to improve themselves at hitting and this one is a GREAT value. Very well built with a HEAVY base (about 10lbs) that can withstand most reasonable shots, before tipping over) The shaft slides up and down well but has enough grip that it does not slink back into the tube on its own. Its pretty stiff but allows enough give that a slight shank will just bend the shaft instead of sending the whole tee flying at the pitching mound. The height is adjustable and should be adequate for most players from teeball to the pros. I've had this tee for over a year and get decent use out of it. It shows no signs of wear and is just as good as the day I received it. Since I bought this, the price has gone down from $25.99 to $17.04 at the time of this writing. It's a steal at this price and anyone looking for a tee should jump all over it before the prices goes up!

I've written a review of this tee a few times now and somehow they didn't get published. I was just looking at my reviews and noticed this now. Normally I wouldn't spend any extra time writing a review after months of buying something, but this tee has been too good to not write a review for it. I initially bought a tee from SKILZ but that broke in literally the first at bat it was used. For a youth league, that just wouldn't cut it. I kept looking and decided to give this tee a try. Not only did it hold up for the youth league, but it also held up for an adult league team on which I play. This tee is basically made from thick rubber throughout with no plastic (i.e. breakable parts). There is a metal cylinder that goes on the inside of the bottom of the tee that provides stability, strength and durability. That part has a bolt that you use to connect it to the base/home plate. It is heavy enough that it won't tip over if not hit squarely and strong/thick enough that it won't crack. I've played baseball for many years and aside from the ATEC branded tees, this is the best one on the market. I hope this review helps because there are lot of tees out there and they just don't compare, at least not at this price.

I purchased two to use for coaching 4th/5th grade little league. This are much more heavy duty than the tees typically found in stores. It is a very solid rubber base which has a good amount of weight to it to keep it stable. The lower portion of the tee has a metal insert that a bolt connects through the bottom of the base to secure this lower tee section. The upper section simply slides in to the lower portion. There is a good amount of friction that keeps the upper portion at the height you set it at. I have used these for one season so far and they have held up well. The only issue is you have to occasionally re-tighten the lower portion of the tee during use. You have to be careful not to over-tighten because you can strip the rubber base that is shaped to fit the hex head of the bolt which will make it more difficult to set the tee up.

I was looking for a high-quality tee for my boys (8 and 10 years old), something heavy duty to last last several years, hopefully until high school. They are on a travel team and practice year-round. This appears to be a great choice which will take many reps -- it is made of thick rubber, no plastic, and very heavy. There is a large diameter bolt and steel cylinder inside the tee which holds it to the plate. We do hitting practice in our (unfinished) basement where we hung a canvas tarp for a hit stop using rubber straps and anchored with two sand bags on the floor at the bottom. We use the tee for hardballs and soft toss wiffle balls. For the price and compared to others, this was a great buy. Update 1/29/2014: After a month's use by my boys 2-3 times per week, the top tube split at the seam and traveled approximately 4 inches down the tube. I wrapped it with athletic tape to keep it from getting worse. The tube still holds a ball but doesn't stay aligned. I sent an email to the manufacturer at [...] and requested a replacement part. Rating dropped from 5 to 4 stars.

My grandson is really into baseball and what better way to prepare him than a batting tee. The batting tee is easy to put together. It is very sturdy and it is a bit heavy which is a good thing as you don't want something that falls down easily. It adjusts to the boys' height as they grow and this batting tee will last a while and not just a year or so. It is something that you can keep if properly stored for a long time. I had previously got my grandson one of those plastic ones and it was garbage. This one is authentic and should help any aspiring baseball player with good eye and hand control for batting.

My son is playing his first year of baseball. He played t-ball a few years back but this is his first actual year playing baseball. He is a bit behind the curve since there's kids who have been playing baseball for a couple of years At his age - they swing at balls from the pitching machine. I noticed that his swing seemed to be off - but I couldn't figure out why. I never played baseball or softball and don't really know what I'm doing. I do know that he needs to figure out where to hit the ball. So off to Amazon I go - and I purchase a tee and a bunch of whiffleballs and put him out in the backyard. So it takes him a few swings to get used to it. But then he figures out where he needs to hit the ball. And then he sends 3 balls into the neighbors yard. After a couple of days of practicing with the tee - I am thrilled to report that he was getting great hits in his last game. I can't give this tee all the credit- but I'm sure it helped him with some of the basic mechanics. The tee itself is sturdy and I don't see any sign of any damage even though he hit the tee more than the ball at first. I'm very happy with this purchase - it works perfectly for what we need and the price was great too. I give this item a solid 5 stars.
