Leica DISTO E7400x 265' Laser Distance Meter, Red/Black

As a set designer, I use the Leica DISTO E74900x frequently--often on a daily basis. I put it through the ringer. I've dropped it many times, and it has never yet failed to measure precisely. I use the word precise because to call it accurate is inaccurate. It is extremely precise, however, due to the inherent nature of most laser measuring devices, it can be difficult to get an accurate measurement. It measures precisely between the butt of the instrument and the point where the laser makes contact. However, where it can fall short is if YOU aren't measuring levelly, or measuring the shortest distance. There is a setting to address this, but the base setting measures the precise distance from point A to point B. If you're looking for a fix to inaccurate adjustments, just be aware that it won't fix your inaccuracies. However, if you're looking for a tool that will give you precise measurements without having to haul out a tape measure, this works extremely well. I highly recommend the product. It has saved me hours of time at nearly every location.

I am posting this because I see lots of people commenting on the error messages and not being able to see this in during the day.This is my second Disto tool. My first one which I bought from Home Depot was stolen from my glove box. This one from Amazon came in a cheaper plastic packaging, so I was immediately skeptical. I had some issues with this tool right after my return window closed. It was taking inaccurate measurements and giving me error messages. I felt duped into buying a considerably cheaper product from Amazon and was feeling that the quality of product was different. I contacted Leica but found it difficult to get a hold of them. I kept getting error messages on job sites and was about to throw the device into a river and get a Bosch.With one last ditch effort, I wiped the lens with an eye glasses cloth and my Disto works perfectly. Very simple fix. I love this thing again and can't believe I didn't try that solution sooner. Also, red eye glasses help you see the laser in the sun.

This thing is a lot easier to use and operate than I initially thought. I was afraid there was going to be a huge manual and complex things you had to do to get the measurements you want... This item is FANTASTIC! Water proof/resistant, light weight, accurate, worked well over 200ft outside in fairly bright conditions. I haven't tested it at further distances yet. It's very easy to get volume and area measurements as well as any others. It even has a function where it will tell you the distance away something is as you move it.

It performs exactly s advertised. It's rugged and durably built. I can't figure out why they would not include bluetooth in this model or produce a model E7400i... I wound up buying the E7500i model to get bluetooth with the accuracy of this device. The 7500i comes with a camera that I didn't want or need but had to buy to get bluetooth. It all seems a little bit like upselling instead of enabling features. Other than that the e7400x works well and I will probably keep it as a spare or give it as a gift.

I love how this little tool works. I've had it for 4-5 years and it has functioned wonderfully. Recently, I dropped it from only about a foot. When it hit the ground, the weight of the internal batteries was enough to shear off the little plastic tab that holds the battery cover in place. Not something I encountered in over four years but it's a huge weakness if you happen to drop it in just the right way.

The main reasons I chose this unit were: (1) It was a Leica, and (2) It took long-distance readings. I use it to get measurements on large buildings...warehouses, gymnasiums, even outdoors in parking lots, etc. Needed something that could give me distance. This is one factor to pay attention to, otherwise, you'll be doing the math and having to have a pal go stand down-range so you can get a read. I prefer to work alone. The quality is world-class. I don't use all the tech stuff this is capable of, I just want rock-solid reliability and accuracy. This fits my needs and is small and easy to work with. My wife loves to come on some jobs and she likes to use the Leica most of all.

It was supposed to be more accurate than other brands however I see no difference. It measures 1/16” to 1/8” more than actual lengthWhen laser hits shiny metals it gives errorAlso batteries they supplied is the cheapest ones and died within 2 days

Threw errors while attempting to take roughly 12' measurements in an interior room with white walls, the second time I used it (less than a week after it shipped). I expected better from Leica. First one that had problems sooner than 5+ years after purchase.

That tool is very useful. I bought it a couple years ago an it still perfect. Leica is te best.

The laser for mine did not work so I paid to send it back. It's been 3 weeks and I am still waiting for a refund.As for the Laser Measure, it is like using a cheap electronic Car-Radio from the 90's: it is functional but it is not easy to do advanced tasks. Technology has progressed a long way; Modern Laser Measures can have Touchscreens, Bluetooth and Cameras, and those laser measures are amazing. Get a modern Laser Measure, I regret buying this Laser Measure, fortunately or unfortunately mine didn't work.

Very useful device, when accuracy is not required, bought this more expensive one to replace a Bosh that I had before, because of accuracy issues.I found, after comparing them, the resulting measurements are identical and both devices wrong by half an inch in distances of 12 feet.Still use it for architectural remodel work, but still can not trust measuring with it and when I need real accuracy, have to use the old tape.

Works very well. Leica is the best measuring product I've used.
