This is a different kind of review
I have read through a lot of reviews and this is going to be a different kind of review. First, Amazon managed somehow to get it to me the second day after ordering... Great!... Amazon, you da man!! Frigidaire brand was decided on because of a total of about 70% ratings of either a four or five (this was way beyond the percentage of other brands), and also because if Frigidaire makes refrigerators that have been reliable for many years they should be able to make AC units with their hands tied behind their backs. There were 30% of reviews that fell in the three, two and one categories but most of these were from shipping damage or installation error (my opinion when reading about some shaking or rattling noises.) even the lower reviews stated that it was very effective at cooling... This was one of my major demands, having bought two Harier AC units last year that are nothing more than window ornaments. One 12,000 btu and a 6000 btu. I even built a temporary wall in the middle of a 260 sq. ft. room to try to get the 12,000 btu to cool even just half of that space since the AC unit cooled so poorly. When it should have been able to cool double the space! Unpacking: pull the top of the box off and the sides of the inside box collapse... (Had to be a woman that thought of this)... I remembered the Harier units and how much of a pain it was to pull the heavy unit out while the physics of suction power is working against you, what a pain!! Now, I installed the Frigidaire unit myself, a 48 year old 160lb female... With absolutely no problem. (I did install it on a bottom floor with an outside support system as help though, so no worries about dropping it.) It fit nicely in my window, no problems. The thing I liked about this unit as far as installation was it came with an extensive insulation package... Two kinds of foam, sticky and square. AND sticky weather stripping. It also came with a material that is inserted in the side panels that reduces cooling loss and entering heat through the accordion panels on each side. This was all an extra plus and very useful!! The little things matter to me, and Frigidaire thought of it all. It came with other hardware to use on either wood or vynil windows as another plus. I beleive the instructions were good although I didn't use them since I have experience in installing AC units anyway. I scanned through them afterward. The unit itself: movable vents... Very nice...both directions! Sleek, and seems to be made out of adequate materials. I noticed in the reviews that some people complained about the styrofoam inside... Well, it's the world we live in, the world of engineered plastics. I am a believer that it doesn't matter what material is used as long as it does the job effectively and the plus for the home owner is not added cost or weight to the unit. I hardly beleive that an engineer is going to produce a product that uses paper when they need steel or vise versa... The product would never hit production... We have to remember, the companies that make these are in competition and want customers to buy their product so they make money...there are flukes but reputable companies want your business. So, the materials used are perfect for the job, no problem there! I let the unit sit for 2 hour after installing it because I needed to tip the unit while installing it and the deliverer carried it side up while bringing it in the house... This IS A REQUIREMENT, so the refrigerant makes its way to its correct home before use. Ok, I turned the unit on and it took about a minute for the compressor to turn on and wala... Precious, chilled, snowy air... My my my... I turned it on and with in 1/2 hour I was shutting it off cause the snow was too deep to walk in... Lol It cools WONDERFULLY!!! And it is only a 10,000 btu unit compared to the 12,000 one from Harier that was defective. I am 100% satisfied!!! Also, I had the TV on while I installed it, and after I started the unit it did not even dawn on me that I needed to turn up the TV it was so quiet... I had to have the TV almost as loud as it would go with the Harier unit...really, it could have sounded like a freight train for all I cared as long as I was cool, but this was definately NOT the case!! Remote: easy to use, maybe some small improvements, backlight for the temp and a magnetic back would be helpful but NO big deal! I personally do like the size, big enough for you hand but not too big to be a pain. The price: less than the Hairer 12,000 btu. Very fair and competitive. GO FRIDIGAIRE... You won my business, I will pass on with word of mouth my satisfaction... Don't change a thing!! Keep up the good work!!! Happy AC hunting, wishing you all the best!!

Worth the money, keeps things nice and cool, medium noise
Awesome AC. On full fan, it is a tad noisy, but you can reduce the fan level if you need to. A few times, it started rattling, but this was fixed by re-securing the front grill that hides the filter. It hasn't come loose in over a week, now, so I apparently got it latched properly. My only complaint is that its temperature sensor can be wildly off. I have it start remote sensing, set at 72, and it will shut off while the remote still reads 78. I have found that putting the remote further from the line of air from the AC seems to make this less likely. Still, this is the first time I've actually used the remote that came with a window AC, as the remote sensing feature is still very nice (even though it occasionally misfires).

Get Yourself This Unit and Save Tons On Your Electric Bill, Too!
This unit has helped dramatically reduce my electric bills in my home. My electric bill dropped to $98.00 this year from $232.00 this time last year. The hottest day was 98 degrees with a heat index of 106 degrees and it performed well and my central air was not needed one bit! With the back of the house facing west, the afternoons are brutal. Although only 10,000 BTUs, it keeps an area that is approximately 1,000 square feet cool, and at times too cool. I use it on energy-saver mode set to 65 degrees, so that it cycles on and off. Only on extremely hot days do I set it to the "cool" mode, so that it doesn't cut off. The area is the central living area of a 2,500 square foot ranch that includes a kitchen, living room, dining room, and utility room. In addition to installing this unit, I hung thermal curtains from MoonDream Technologies over all the windows in this common area which block out almost 100% of the sunlight. This combined with the air conditioning unit has dramatically cut my electric bill. A few things to note about this unit: (1) The unit tends to generate quite a bit of water, so make sure that under whatever window you install it, that you do not have plants under it that require dry soil. (2) The remote control must be in line-of-sight with the unit, meaning that you cannot take the remote into another room and control the air conditioner, unless you can point it directly at the unit. That also means that the thermostat in the remote will not work properly if the remote itself is not in eye-sight of the air conditioner. You may have to click on the thermostat sensor on the remote from time to time to queue. This is truly not a big deal; only a feature. (3) As a single woman, I found this unit heavy and awkward to carry. Make note of the shipping weight because moving this into the window can be difficult. I had this delivered to my garage, opened it there, and then wheeled it from the garage into the installation area on a plant dolly that had a 100 lb weight limit. Do not tip the unit to keep the coolant stable. From there, I was able to lift up ONE TIME to get it into the window. I also wore gloves to avoid getting accidently cut up from any rough edges. I'm not saying that a woman can't do this. I am saying that the weight is significant, so have a plan for it! (4) This unit has a powerful motor that generates quite a bit of airflow. I have it installed in a smaller window of a bay-window setup in the kitchen that faces west. I have to cut off the unit when I am serving dinner to keep dinner from getting cold. This is not a big deal for me, but it is a consideration if you have a family that eats dinner together near the unit. On high, I can feel a strong airflow from this unit at 7-8 feet away! It is wonderfully powerful. (5) On its highest setting, some may consider this to be a moderately loud unit. I do not. It is louder than my 6,000 BTU (https://amzn.com/B00IYQYN82), but that should be expected. This is not your grandpa's big-ole' metal air conditioner. For its size and power, the noise is reasonable. The unit is not directly around my television, so with a small increase in volume, I can continue enjoying TV without any significant issues; however, when I cut the unit off, I definitely notice how quiet the house suddenly becomes. I know that this was a long review, but I remembered how much the long reviews on this product helped me to make the right decision regarding the size of unit I needed. I'm happy to answer any further questions.
