One inch Extensions Kit Worked Like a Charm!
Remodeled a bathroom with tile set in concrete so needed the extensions kit to install the new diverter - worked like a charm! Saved me several hours of work-around to make this work. Measure to ensure you get the right extension kit, there is both a one inch and a two inch kit. I only needed the inch despite having super thick concrete walls.

Necessary after shower remodel with larget tiles
We just completed a shower remodel, and our tile contractor used longer screws to attach the moen handle faceplate, but it was still a tight fit on the handle. I found this extension kit which was exactly what we needed. In fact the 1-inch extension is a bit too long, so I'm going to cut down the brass core about 1/4 inch off each end to shave of 1/2 inch total length. Too bad they dont make a 1/2 inch extension, since that would have been perfect. It has a variety of stainless steel screws to accommodate a variety of handles. If you're adding tiles which push out the shower wall from the plumbing fixture, get this.

Better than nothing
This is pricey but you have no othe choice. BEFORE you remove the old handle take lots of pictures step by step so you can put it back together. The kit parts are complete with various length bolts backed on stuff like how think is the wall or how recessed it the valve. The hardest part is setting the plastic stem that rotates. Be sure to set it at 2 o clock. If not your valve will not assemble properly.

Made all the difference
I wish we'd known about this adapter when we installed our shower several years ago. We struggled to get the mixer valve installed after the tile was placed on our shower wall; then, with years of hard on-off cycles we finally found this adapter. Easy installation with fairly straight-forward instructions. Now, I can turn on the shower with just a finger! Shame on Moen for not noting the possible need for an extension in the instructions in the first place!

Come on Moen!
Sure, this extender solves the problem for those Moen Posi-Temp installs where the valve is set too far into the wall cavity. I'd like to thank Moen for making it available but I'm CONFLICTED to do this. The reason being, vague "valve" installation instructions. Moen doesn't make it clear that when you plumb the valve into the wall cavity, the brass stem needs to stick out past the outer wall substrate (ie: tile) by at-least 1/2". That, and the fact it doesn't mention the ability to purchase extension kit (#96945) if you need it. After an hour of trying to figure out what was wrong with the installation and thinking about ripping the wall apart or modifying the cover plate to fix the problem I turned to the internet only to find that I'm not the only DIYer to run into this issue.MOEN, you need to revise your instruction sheet to be clearer on how to position and install the valve properly, additionally include information about the extension kit and how to purchase one if you need it.

Hard to find parts
Have not installed yet but I can already see they are the right fit, brand, and they are well made.

I didn't like the idea of opening up the wall to re-position ...
Took on a major bath repair that included replacing and re-positioning the Moen Posi-Temp valve. Although the installation instructions said that the trim ring should be flush with the finished wall, in this case tile, I found that after I had installed the valve and installed concrete backer board that I still had to build up the wall with mortar to make it somewhat flush with the adjoining walls. So basically the mortar wound up being flush with the trim ring. I still thought that the valve stem and stop tube would have enough length to accommodate a ¼ tile but that wasn’t the case. When I found that I could not attach the acrylic shower handle panic began to set in. I didn't like the idea of opening up the wall to re-position the valve. Luckily I wasn’t the first amateur plumber to install the valve too deep and thankfully Moen provides this adapter kit. 1 extra inch was perfect. The screw that is supplied to attach the handle is a tad too long but can be easily cut with a hacksaw.

Works great!
I changed out a shower that had flat panel walls to one that had raised fiberglass walls 1.5" thick. With the extension it allowed me to keep the water control valve in the same location so I didn't have to re-plumb. The shower handle is still feels sturdy when turned so no concerns there. You will need some of your old parts from your handle. It gives you exactly one inch more of length than the normal parts. Saved me a lot of time! Thanks

Perfect fit
I had downstairs bathroom roughed-in with house construction and didn’t notice shower valve was too far back in wall for eventual tile installation. This extension saved my bacon allowing the shower handle to be installed without breaking new tile and wall board. The kit came with different screw lengths to adapt to my specific situation.

Works great!
After I installed 3/8” tile the tap wouldn’t fit on anymore. I was worried the 1” kit wasn’t going to be big enough but it works great. Saved me from having to cut open the drywall on the other side to reposition the valve. The extension is brass as well (some people were saying it was plastic) which is great. Should last a long time.

Worked like a charm
Had a plumber do the valve rough in and then I put in a three piece surround. Didn’t realize everything was too far back until after it was wrestled into place. At that point it was either tear apart the drywall behind the valve, remove the surround, or give this a try. It worked like a charm and saved me a lot of time and hassle. Good for Moen to make something like this to bail out people like me! (The plumber who didn’t measure it right is another story though!)
