This is a very large chest but it is exactly what I wanted which is to store tax files a year at a time.The outside dimensions of the chest including handles, locks and hinges are 17.5 W X 13.75 D X 12.5 H inches. Another critical dimension not mentioned is the height with the lid fully open which is 25.25 inches.You might want to tape up a cardboard model to get an idea of the size and try fitting it into the spot where it will be stored. I own a fireproof lock box that I keep more important stuff in so I was not concerned about locking it. I didn't even remove the nylon zip ties after it arrived .95% of the locks in the world can be defeated with a hammer or a screwdriver or a combination of both. You could bolt a half inch thick padlock to this and one smack would break the box. Every day bolt cutters and reciprocating saws are used to defeat padlocks that cost as much as this box. Sturdiness is ultimately a factor of price.Like the automakers who led the way in making plastic look like metal be warned that the "aluminum " looking trim is plastic. This is not a solid metal box and the price reflects just that. It is well made, handy and does the job for me.I It also works in one direction for letter size and the other way for legal size files. There is a slight disadvantage to the letter size size since you have to open the lid completely to remove a file. Depending on where you store this box that could be a factor since you may have to take it out completely and then turn it to open it up.I can see a lot of other uses for this box as well ; tackle ,fishing reel storage ..any light bulky items.

The Vaultz Portable File Box is exactly what I was looking for and this product exceeded my expectations. I was looking for a portable, legal sized file box that could accommodate hanging files. When I received my order including the Vaultz portable file box the day after I ordered it, I was impressed with the sturdiness and durability this product. I appreciate the aluminum frame and the rigid body of this file box. It also has substantial handles on the side which can carry a fully packed file box. The only thing I wish this product had is a third handle on the top, but I imagine this would not meet the engineering standards if the box was packed. Overall, I’m impressed with this product and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a high quality, durable, and well-made file box.

This is a nice looking box with a black lining that looks and feels velvety. I bought it to store old photos, I think it's great as a storage box, I don't believe the box would hold up with heavy files hanging, light files would probably be fine. Not as secure as it could be because it wouldn't be hard to break into and there's no place for a padlock, but you'd be able to tell if someone did. It's a good buy for the money. Two side carrying handles. I have short hands and I'm 5'5" reference for hand/ arm size in picture to box ratio. Good size. I didn't judge durability just because I haven't had it long. Good for the price. Update - a couple of months later, the lock on one side quit working while in the lock position, had to literally break it off, as it wouldn't open at all! Super disappointed - sorry to the buyers for not updating my review sooner! I included a picture.

I was looking for something nice to store some modern day comics in top loaders sleeves and this fit the bill perfectly. It seems robust enough to handle the weight (and it should since it's designed for legal file storage). The dimensions are perfect to handle a couple of rows of comics in their sleeves. I've got about 100 stored in there comfortably. Hoping it holds up! The combo lock does seem a little cheap and instructions say that once you change it, you HAVE to remember it as there is no default combo. All in all though, it looks great and was ideal for my purpose.

This file box is extremely well made and very spacious. The exterior is durable. The inside is lined with a soft velvet like material and also features holders on each side to hang either legal size or letter size file folders. The combination locks are very easy to set as well. This file box over exceeds expectations.

Very poorly made. This will not keep anything safe. One of the hinges arrived broken & the walls & floor are too flimsy to offer any protection.

I use these bought many as my files grow. Not bulky as a filling cabinet. I can't just take one with me n it has where u can lock it using a code of ur choosing. I stack one on top of the other just 2 cuz they can get heavy with all that paper. Some of us still like an actual document in our hand but one day soon it will all be electronic so many companies are implementing it already. Just yesterday picked up medicine at pharmacy with no fact sheet u now have to ask for it before hand!! What??

This is a great product. We use it to safely store prescription medications, extra OTC meds, our kids' video games and/or cell phone when one of them loses electronics privileges...pretty much anything we don't want lying around for our kids to get in to. It is well made and the locking mechanisms continue to work well over time. It is pretty large; they sell smaller sizes so you can get one to suit your specific needs. Keep in mind that this is not a tamper-proof safe - if someone wants to smash it and pull it apart, they could - but unless you are hiding gold bars or Spanish doubloons, it provides sturdy, reliable, and secure storage.

Purchased 2 items. Both arrived built to the same standard. Key info for other buyers - Some of the positive reviews here must be fake, we simply don't understand how people can be rating these items with 4 and 5 stars. - Not sturdy in any sense of the word, the materials are cheap, the rivets some of them were loose/falling out. The metalwork is incredibly thin and would deform very easily with light use - Both cases did not sit flat on the floor, they were unevenly made... imagine a table with one leg too short. Teh boxes wobble. - Standard Foolscap files did not fit in naturally, the case was just a little too narrow, you had to force them in, such that they would sit extremely tight and would only glide forward/backward along the rails of the case if you had the file diagnoally orenited. (picture shows how a foolscap file would land (sit) if lowered naturally into the case) - The ends of the rails looks like theyve been snapped by hand rather than machined/cut to the correct sizes. As a result, there is sharp metal exposed within the case (as pictured) Positive points: - The locking mechanism works relaibly, although the combination wheels only roll down, they get jammed if you try to roll them upwards (cheap). - -
