This Acer Chromebox is more than I expected
I just purchased this a few weeks ago and it is everything that I had hoped for - fast, quiet, and Chrome OS!Just to clarify some differences I've noticed from some other reviews here:- The model that I received has an Intel Celeron CPU 3215U running at 1.70GHz. This is a bit faster than the 1.5GHz that is advertised.- If you have an older printer that is not cloud ready, most printer manufacturers now have very convenient Android and iOS apps for your phone or tablet that work directly with your printer. I have a Canon printer that is wireless but not cloud ready and it works great with the Canon app that allows for printing and scanning. It's a few more steps to get a document or photo printed, but it works great. Of course, if you want a printer that is cloud ready, you can find any number for around $80.- The fan in the Chromebox is normally very quiet, but it does speed up for short periods when the CPU is under stress. The fan noise is not really anything to worry about.- I have a very old set of speakers connected to the headphone jack and they worked perfectly. No humming before login - in fact I leave them on all the time and they work just like they did when connected to my old Windows PC.- I was surprised to find that my old web camera and microphone also work right out of the box. You may need to select the camera name for both the default camera and microphone settings, but it works fine. The web cam I'm using is an older model Microsoft LifeCam VX-2000.- The mouse that came with the unit is wired, but has a very nice feel and the scroll wheel is very quiet.- Instead of the included Chrome-style keyboard that is OK, I am using a wireless Logitech keyboard that has the USB dongle. It works great too.- I installed the Chromebox to the back of my monitor - an older Samsung SyncMaster E2420. The screw holes line up perfectly with the bracket that is included with the Chromebox. This makes for a very uncluttered desktop.I have a long history with Chrome OS, having had 4 Chromebooks over the years, and this Chromebox works just like the OS on a Chromebook - fast, safe, and very cloud friendly. I find that the Google Drive works great as storage that can be accessed from any device, is always backed up and secure, and has plenty of useful apps like Docs, Sheets, Photos, etc.I highly recommend this device for anyone looking for a reliable, affordable, and simple, PC replacement.

Nice product overall
Nice product overall.can get a little slow sometimes when doing resource intensive task e.g. watching high quality youtube video or uploading images to google photo but overall quite decent for what I needed. Watching netflix on this was painful on my 4k TV, had to reduce the resolution to around 720 but I think that is more of a ChromeOS issue then the box itself.Overall most recommended for anyone who want a cheap way to get ChromeOS. I have currently got this hooked to a 4K Tv and using a logitech K400 wireless keyboard

No need for fancy configuration anymore!
I've built Windows PCs since 1995. Always the same drill = install, install, install, then configure like crazy to undo all the defaults, then babysit that security software like a hawk. That's all over with this Chromebox. I'm happy to use my old monitor and just needed to buy a Display Port to DVI (male) adapter. The display quality is beautiful for surfing the web using an older 20" HP LED backlit desktop display. The Chromebox is small and nearly silent and seems fairly robust with a fair amount of metal in its construction. This thing boots 8 seconds and switches between user accounts instantly. The keyboard and mouse are perfectly fine. Keystrokes are a bit springy, but no aberrant characters and it can keep up with a fast data entry. Mouse is standard with no glitches. Everything connected securely and flawlessly. This is an outstanding family PC because of its inherent security. I can let a guest go straight on and don't have to worry about any software being mishandled or securities being circumvented. All in all, a great replacement for an ailing Windows monster PC that doesn't have to go to serious game-ville or manage AutoCAD or something of that sort. If it ever hiccups, all you do is reset (powerwash) the OS and it's as clean and secure as the day you first unboxed it.

A STUNNING AMAZING FIVE STAR
Have attached to my 32" HD televsion screen as main reason prefer this to other devices is like a big screen for movies or you tube or web browsing and a wireless keyboard works fine with this so i can be lounged in a chair or laying in bed to use as have a wheeled tv stand. I personally use ooma and pay only 4.24 a month for unlimited nationwide calling, i use an app called text now for unlimited free texting. I'm a former webtv user and always liked the big screen and being virus free or other problems computers have but this is like going from black and white to color in comparison webtv to a chromebox as now everything is superfast and alot more features and apps. Also other members can log in on their own which you can't see their stuff or they yours or even has where guest can browse. This chromebox is on list to be playstore capable but presently can use the chrome web store for apps...This is a google linked product so you of course get email thru gmail and google maps...I have music i bought on amazon's music library and can use the chromebox and tv to listen to. There's way more additional features than I've mentioned such as playing games to listening to old radio programs to reading pdf files...and daily expanding with more stuff!!!

Great if you just want the web.
This is very fast machine to get on the web (I had the 4 GB) Setup is pretty easy- you just put in your gmail name and password and you're set. I should mention that if you have a wired (usb) printer, chances are it WILL NOT WORK. Chrome OS is setup to work with network printers and despite what you might find on google, it'd be a miracle if your wired printer will work. In the house I installed this in, there was an HP all in one and even though I downloaded the chrome plugin for it, it was not supported so the printer is a door stop now. And of course, if you have any windows or android apps, or ancient security system that needs internet explorer 6 (yes, there are things that still need that) it won't work. I won't hold that against the Acer however. Also the machine itself is a little weird when you plug in speakers. There is a high pitched noise from the speakers that doesn't go away until you log in. I guess the sound card inside doesn't turn on until you log in so there is just random noise but it's kind of annoying. I also kind of wish they would have included an HDMI-DVI cable.

This thing is awesome!
I've only had it for a few hours, but love it already! ChromeOS is a little different than Android, but not too much. You install apps through the Chrome Web Store instead of the regular Google Play Store, but this device is on the list to get the update to download apps from the Play Store soon.I connected this to my Dell monitor via HDMI and used the Rii i8+ 2.4GHz keyboard. Wow- simply awesome!! I later learned that my Logitech K800 keyboard and M510 mouse were also able to connect through their wireless dongle with no drivers needed to install!I installed Plex on this device and it played Batman v Superman via wireless and wired connections without a hiccup. This thing is whisper-quiet. I love having two USB ports on the front and another two on the back. This thing is also heavier than I expected. The removable base easily installs and has rubber on the bottom to keep it from sliding on a desk. The purpose of this device is to act as a media server in our car (pairing it with a WD 4TB My Passport HDD, which is powered 100% by USB). This would be great as a front-end (client), for a Plex server and is more versatile than a Roku. BTW, it booted in like 3 seconds!I didn't need the included keyboard or mouse, but both seem to be decent devices. Not as cheap as you might think. Both are wired, the mouse is just a regular two-button mouse and the keyboard does NOT have a Windows key (which makes sense since it isn't a "Windows" keyboard, but that shows they just didn't take a generic Windows keyboard and repurpose it for this device).Yup- I am gonna love playing around with this thing. Still gotta figure out if apps can be put on the "desktop" or are they stuck in the taskbar/app drawer thing?BTW, please be aware of what you're getting- this is not a high-end gaming machine so don't try to make it out to be something it isn't.

Good starting computer, but lacks some features
I've had this since February of 2016. It works well, it's small, and even better it's sturdy. I've accidently knocked the device over and it was thankfully working after that. However, be warned that by buying a chrome box, you can't download any programs that are not from the chrome app store. No Window's office, no Steam, no Firefox, etc.I was able to get around the windows, and well, I didn't need to get Firefox, but I was somewhat disappointed that I wasn't able to get Steam. However, what made up for that is the fact(kinda) you don't need to get a virus protection every year. It's still a good PC for web browsing and was very simple to set up, so if someone is just looking for a home PC that's cheap it works very well even after a year, even if it's been dropped a couple of times.

After 20 minutes of working, the next time I ...
After 20 minutes of working, the next time I powered up the login screen would not advance when I put in my password; it would go dark for 8 seconds then return to the login screen again [and again and again]. I was able to login to this same account* on my Acer R13 [love, it is reason I bought the CX-12]. Acer phone support had me do a hard reset which is to hold ESC+REFRESH+POWER, did that 4 times. Then they wanted me to reload the OS - .....no thanks ! BTW you can't do a 'powerwash' if you are locked out]. There was another issue which probably has a solution, but this CX-12 came w no instructions at all, not even a "Quickstart". There was no sound and the sound slider would return to zero immediately. [this was in the 20 minutes when I was in] Another thing, this device has a cat 5 ethernet port. This product is evidently for corporations with an IT department. I am buying another R13. I am sure they will get this fixed and it is well made and has a SDHC slot which I need. Getting a second R13 and also converted 2 m/c to Linux Mint 18.3 & Manjaro.* How many devices can you log into you Google account ? Evidently 44 to 100 !!

Powerful and fast for my needs.
So often I'd forget I'm running an under $300 Chromebox and not my Core i5 Windows desktop. Even ran 2 1080p50 videos simultaneously without problem. The bonus is it runs Android apps right out of the box! Gave away my Windows desktop already, and I can't imagine going back to Windows.

No issues whatsoever. Simply waiting for Android Apps. Connecting bluetooth headphones was a bit tricky. Otherwise no issues at all, mounted it on the back of my acer screen, using an Logitech keyboard and mouse, no issues whatsoever.
