The Classical Nifty Fifty
Allow me to start of with one thing first, this lens is absolutely great for a beginner-enthusiast photographer's looking to take a leap into the world of prime lenses. I know it's very difficult to decide where to go from your standard kit lens, but this 50mm f/1.8 bundle is the way to go!(Just a little heads up though if you have a APS-C sensor your lens would be cropped from 50mm to 80mm. If you want the 50mm look you will need a full frame camera, or a 35mm lens)Allow me to start off with what it includes and my experience with the items. First up the lens itself, the lens has some weight to it but is mostly plastic except for the metal connector which allows it to be really sturdy. The focus ring is fairly rough, but allows you to know that you're focusing properly. For video work the auto focusing of the lens can be heard quiet easily, which sounds like your rubbing your finger along a wet window. Now for the best part of thenlens is the images, this lens take amazing photos either during the day, or even night. The f/1.8 allows it to open up wide enough to let in a lot of light allowing for beautiful blurry backgrounds, and fast capture speeds without the need to bump up ISO. The photo quality is fairly sharp, and very good for this price range! Now for the lens hood, it screws in with the 49mm threading, and does its job fairly well though it is fairly difficult to get on sometimes. Next up is the filters the UV filter is essentially a protective filter for the front of the lens to keep it clean. The CPL filter was actually pretty good though not premium quality, but does it's job really well. The last filter to me is one I never use due to the over powering violet color. The case that is provided does keep the filters protected, but leaves a red fuzz from the interior on the filters a lot. The cleaning tools were not the best, but it's always important to have the hand air pump to clean off your lenses afterwards. The plastic protectors for the lens are typical protectors. The protective bag is fairly nice, & padded for your spare kit lens to be stored in.Overall for what you get I highly recommend this bundle, it offer a lot of useful items for its price range. Plus it's a great starting point for new photographers, though if you have the extra money I highly recommend the 50mm f/1.4 due to it's better build quality, and for it's faster \ quieter focusing capabilities.

Must buy lense if you just started photography!
The 50mm f1.8 is one of the best starter primes you can buy for yourself, I achieved these 3 shots of myself with this lense. It's a solid lense that's sharp and fast for the price.Remember it's not about how much your equipment costs it's how you use it, I bought this lense when I started 2 years ago and I'm still using it to this day! It's worth every penny!Buy the 24mm f2.8 by cannon, the 35mm f2 by yungnuo, the 50mm f1.8 by cannon and you're set with with 3 solid lenses for around 350 bucks max. That's my recommendation if you're just starting photography!P.S Shoot in RAW format and also learn lightroom, images need to be processed after they're taken with a DSLR

Quality lens with some nice extras at a great price
This is a good camera lens. I love the f1.8 capability for portrait photos.I like the lens pouch that comes with it to keep the lens safe while not using it.The filters are alright. The purple filter is not really used in digital photography much anymore, but it gives a nice rosy hue to your photos if that is what you’re going for. The UV filter is great for when you want to protect your lens.

Excellent lens for the price
Thank you Canon for updating what is already a great EF 50mm lens with STM focusing system. the sharpness is what you would expect from the "nifty fifty" altho I must admit the focus was way off out of the box at list with my camera; I had to calibrate my 6D using the in camera focus adjustment and once I did that, the result was amazing.I compared it with my old "nifty 50" and this "Newer" was much better in terms of sharpness, noise and off course focusing speed. one thing that I noticed using this lens with my EOS 6D it seems to have problem locking the focus quickly in-doors but that could be the problem with 6D poor focusing system. but when it does it supper quick specially out door with fair light on the subject.Overall I don't want to nitpick after all you are getting way more than what you are paying for hereCompared with what its replacing you will get:- better build quality- blazing focusing speed- quite- better sharpness, I can go far to say the sharpness was better than my Canon 24-70mm f4 L lens which cost ~$1000 rest my case

Find your own lens hood.
This lens is a classic lens. It is a good workhorse lens. Good for portraits in a pinch. Great depth of field. I use it for macro photography with a small lens extension.I also use this lens for video on a tripod where I don't have to change focus. The auto focus is a little slow on my older camera and will track anything that moves changing everything in/out of focus. But I use manual, so I am OK.I was disappointed by the lens hood. When it is installed, the lens cap will not fit and pops right off. :( It's the only lens hood I have with this problem. (Yes the lens cap is the right size.)
