Surprised at the negative reviews
Even more surprising: this unit works pretty well for a 3G or 4S... I've moved the mount around on three different bikes and while I hated the crappy packaging (looked like poly bag from a foreign factory with no QC) and I was disappointed the first time my phone popped off (this is NOT for mountain bike riding) - I came back to my order (2010) to order another for my other road bike.FYI - 4 stars because it is more than worth the money and when used properly is a great helper to those of us who use the GPS to track our riding!I've put two years and 1000+ miles on RunKeeper using this unit. Here are a few simple hints:(a) Make sure you have the phone *almost* parallel to the road so that it won't slip out. I know some people worry about sun damage to the screen - you'll probably replace your iPhone before sun damage is a real risk.(b) Check to see that the slide is "in" all the way (as far as it can go) before riding and loosen then tighten the bolt. You don't want to just keep tightening as that will result in stripping and likely the whole unit will pop off. That happened to me riding trails and I nearly never found my black iPhone on brown wooded ground w/leaves every where. I had to carry my 25 pount+ mountain bike over my shoulder about 1/2 mile to find it! scary!(c) This should NOT be used for bumpy trails. Get a shirt with a zipper pocket, or a sports armband. NOTE: If the armband isn't breathable (for the iPhone) you will likely get moisture damage. I lost speaker audio for 3 - 5 days once because of this.(d) Fully snap the iPhone in (always check) and use the single tab on the BOTTOM - not like the picture that shows it at the top. I've tried both ways and like I indicated - 1000+ miles and it's far better at securing the phone reversed from the image shown and with the phone almost parallel. Can't stress this enough.FINALLY: EXPECT YOUR PHONE TO FALL OFF AT LEAST ONCE OR TWICE if you do not follow these suggestions. Just about 2 weeks ago I took my MTB out (normally on the road because it's more intense cardio with the bigger tires) and I took a shortcut through a little (1 foot) bumpy hill and my phone slid out (onto grass thankfully) because I didn't follow my own suggestions of being parallel and checking the bolt! Please be smarter than me and don't risk breaking your phone. This is a fine mount - you can spend a ton more if you want absolute confidence - but don't bitch about a <$15 product not protecting your (worth $600) $200 purchase. Thanks for reading, sorry so long - hope it helps someone!UPDATE: came back to change to 5 stars - I finally moved the replacement unit to my other bike, it's truly a perfect device - the enhanced fit using actual screws (phillips) rather than the old bike-style hex head is a great change. I'm very glad to have purchased this unit!

Doesn't fit contemporary handlebars
Back in the old days, a road bike had a drop handlebar that was a standard sized small tube. The handlebars on today's bikes often have larger tubes. The mounting unit (as you can see in the picture) only works for small tubes. Even worse, the clamp is hinged on one side, so it absolutely cannot be used on a larger tube. It would work great on a 1979 banana seat bicycle.I'm probably going to have to find a handlebar clamp that fits, and see if the ball joint on this unit will mount to that.I also don't love the fit - it seems almost too generic to fit the iPhone 3GS well. However, it does seem to hold it firmly. I'm a bit worried that I'm going to mar up the corners of my phone in the mounting unit.

Met my expectations.
It did what I expect it to do. I was able to use it with both iphone 4 as well as ipod touch 4th generation. With iPod Touch I need to use the case and with Iphone I need to remove the case. I would say it is very sturdy and holds the phone pretty tight. I don't know how some people managed to drop their phones. I am thinking they might not have installed it properly.I wish they made this more generic by providing holders for different units such as blackberry for some some additional cost. I have a blackberry as well and the holder comes with this unit does not take the blackberry torch.

Do NOT Buy. This will WRECK Your iPhone - it destroyed mine.
Ignoring the warnings of other reviews, I purchased this device - and only got around to using this week. I mounted it properly and it seemed to fit snug and secure.I mounted it on my road bike. About five miles into a smooth ride I hit a small bump. The phone FLEW off bike, crashing down on the pavement. The velocity of the impact was more than my iPhone could withstand and was DESTROYED. The bracket was still on the phone - it had separated into two pieces. Half staying on the bike - the rest taking an express trip to the pavement with my iPhone.Amazon should NOT be selling this defective and dangerous item. Shame on them. The $15 device will now cost me hundreds of dollars to recoup. This was purchased from Amazon. The seller is AKRON. I will NEVER do business with them again - and suggest you move with caution if you do. At least in this instance they are knowingly selling defective products - and so is Amazon. Amazon should be ashamed. Read the other reviews. Don't make my mistake. This is JUNK.You have been warned. Very poor product. Poorly designed. Poorly engineered. Poorly built.Since I can't give negative stars, I will give this one.

Try it in your car!
Bought this for my iPhone 4 but the mount never made it to my bike, I'll have to buy another one. Had been searching all over for a good car mount. Then wondered if this would work in my 2010 Honda Accord. Mounted it on the emergency brake handle. Works really well, better than any other auto mount I could find. And the price is great. Slide the mount all the way to the back of the handle, no need for included rubber gaskets. iPhone then swivels to direct view right at you with a quick look down.

Great sturdy Iphone holder for your bike.
This was not the easiest to install because of the non slip pads they include but it was stable when done. It does not move while riding and I took a wicked fall at about 25 miles/hr and the phone stayed in place and was fine without a scratch. I have to take my case off each time I use it but that is no big deal. There are many types of these on the marked and many are more expensive, but this will do all you need and more!

Decent product, but needs a modifation
I agree that the ring that you use to attached to handle bars is too small to fit over tape. Also the mount for the iphone doesn't lock into place on the attachment to the handle bars very well. It came off twice while i was riding my bike. I ended up Gorilla Gluing the the mount together and now it works perfect.
