Sports Walkman
The unit works fine and the sound quality is very good. The single aaa battery lasts a very long time.My only problem with these units is the point of connection between the earphones and the Walkman unit. After extended use, maybe 2 years, the connection gets loose or otherwise fails to deliver a clear signal. You get loss of signal, or signal in only one earphone, or a signal so low you can barely hear it. You have to jiggle the connection to temporarily restore it. This condition undoubtably arises from catching and jerking the wire on objects such as a doorknob while you are walking or working. However, Sony needs to beef up the connection design to prevent this defect that will surely shorten the life of the product.I have not found a better product, so I just have to replace my unit every couple of years.

Early Problems Fixed
Sony must have fixed the problem of the radio that got no reception because this little wonder is fantastic. AM/FM reception is clear and it's in a nice, extremely lightweight (and pretty eye-turning) package.Only problem I have is the volume - a small "wheel" at the base of the radio - turns too easily if you clip the radio to your waist instead of using the arm band. It can get very loud or very soft in an instant, and the "Hold" switch doesn't help.

Very funtional, but volume knob gets lost making item useless.
I had a Sony armband radio that I used at the gym for several years. I travel extensivly for business and use the radio several times a week. I felt that I got more than my share from this older radio but it gave up on me, so I bought a new one about 3 months ago. Sony has changed the unit- made it a bit smaller and redesigned it. Same basic funtionality, but updated sizing and buttons changed a bit. Had the new one for about 60 days and the volume knob fell off. Couldn't find the knob, so I ordered another- thinking it was just a fluke. Well, I've had the 2nd new one about 30 days and the knob has again come off. I have Ipod's, but I like to be able to tune to the tv in the gym when working out. Won't buy another one of these. Sound is good, funtionality is good (although setting up preset stations is not as user friendly as it could be). But without a volume knob, it is useless.

Though not awesome, it's the best exercise radio on the market.
Pros: Very light-weight. Uses only one AAA battery and easily clips to the side of your waste band becoming almost unnoticeable. Decent reception in some cities but does seem to have problems in larger metropolitan areas. Presets work well.Cons: Its biggest problem is the jack connection. If you use it for exercise, the headphone jack will break down over time making the radio infuriating and nearly worthless. I am on my third one and have found that they last for approximately 2-3 years.

Overall Review
I enjoy music and at times talk radio, while jogging. I jog everyday. The sound is great. I found setting up fix stations to be difficult, at first. I like having 15 radio stations. I wish I had 15 radio stations in my area. I also wish I had more AM channels than 5. The one area that I had a problem was the head set. It only works in one ear. A problem that I have experienced before.I do not use the shoulder strap, I like to hold it in my hand because I continually change stations while jogging. Its not a bad radio. I would not buy this model again. I prefer my original Walkman.

kinda lousy, but what areyagonnado?
I'm an avid listener of NPR on AM and FM while running and find this radio to be only radio that even remotely works for me...does it work great? Not a chance... Does it have a decent battery life? Not really. Is the reception decent? Um...However- on a clear day and with a new battery, I can get my 2 stations in with no problem...What's up with a techie world that this lame excuse for a radio is the best option available?? I've gone through 4 since i started running 5 years ago and haven't found anything better (says a lot, eh?)

Great Walkman for the park
Sony SRF-M85V S2 Sports Walkman Armband Radio I bought my first Sony sports radio several years ago so I could listen to NPR while running in the park. It worked so well that I've bought two more - one for my wife and one for a friend - to encourage them to get out and exercise. It uses the headphone cord as an antenna, which sometimes means that my body gets in the way of the signal. I've resolved that problem by attaching the radio to my running hat. When the original headphones wore out, I started using earbuds from my iPod, and they work well with it.The digital tuning is priceless for staying on a weak signal.Phil West
