Just like new
So I find myself needing to *another* laptop having recently bought my wife an excellent new one from HP. The unfortunate timing of this was caused by my old laptop (pushing five years old now) suddenly developing instability and lockups under heavier loads. COVID-19 is still skewing price and availability of new equipment and my pocket is a little thin for stumping up for another like my wifes, so I was on the hunt for something hitting a sweet spot between absolute price and ability to meet performance requirements (in the context of a laptop). This Ryzen 3 3200U based HP Laptop seems to touch all the bases competently. Is it super fast, super powerful? No, but neither is dragging its feet in the mud. Big screen, larger capacity storage? No, Nice clear screen and internal storage large enough to install any software that this level of laptop could reasonably be expected to support. So it's cheap then? No, there are cheaper, but most (if not all) of these don't have a Ryzen CPU in them. This is a good solid laptop from a respectable manufacturer, it's a tool for a job, not showing off in any particular direction, but getting the job done smartly and without fuss. What's the down side? Possibly the fact that this laptop has been previously owned, it's second hand (previously cherished?), but this seems to have had no impact on the device itself. My "new" laptop was spotless and delivered in the proper packaging your would expect for this laptop. Windows 10 had a clean fresh install waiting for me to set it up in exactly the same way a new machine would be configured. Everything is working perfectly and all that remains to be established is the battery life. Initial subjective evidence suggests that it's possibly a little shy of the advertised "as new" battery life, but not by much, and this could have been caused by me driving the machine hard to see where it's limits are and so hitting the battery harder than a "normal" load would. Final question: Are you happy with it? Yes! It fell inside my budget, meets all my requirements and was delivered smartly getting me out of a corner I hadn't planned on being in. Definitely deserves five stars.
