The Forest of Changes: A Han Dynasty Extrapolation of the I Ching

This is the most mind-blowing oracle I have ever used, and I have used many. Most of the time, the divinatory answers are quite easy to understand, but when they are not so clear, just thinking about it for a minute clears it up. This oracle is a thousand times superior to the tarot. I am so amazed at the quality of this oracle. To make it easier to use, I use an online random number generator. In that way, I conduct my Forest divinations in an instant, and always with 100 percent accuracy.

The Jiaoshi Yilin, has never been translated until now -- and this translation is excellent.I'm not usually one for texts on Divination, but this one is certainly an exception, because at no point did I feel that the author was taking the text out of the era. You won't find any pseudo new age-spiritualism in this book -- this is a text on Chinese Divination, and a brilliantly translated one at that. As a text on divination, you can't do much better.As a lover of history however, it was the 2312 notes that are immensely helpful to put the book in context, and are essential for the student, and a joy for the scholar that keep causing me to go back to the book.But no matter what your particular focus, anyone interested in China as a whole, should buy this book.

This is "the first complete translation of the Forest into any western language." The skill required and sheer enormity of the task should be applauded. For anyone interested in the I Ching, this is worth having in your library. It includes a history of the Forest of Changes as well as other reference material. Chris has done an outstanding job with this translation. Not only has he examined the text in every detail, he has also researched the background and system of this one-of-a-kind Yijing related system. If you like poetical imagery and oracles you should definitely purchase this book.

I've been following Chris progress with his translation for years. It is a true tour-de-force that took persistence and dedication and that few have dared to tackle due to its sheer volume. For me, it has set a standard that will be a reference to improve by other translators. If you are interested in the study of the Yijing, this work should be in your book shelf.

This is an amazing book. The first of its kind. The first book that interpers Chinese history and culture in an amazing way. Forest of Changes is an overdue translation.
