I wouldn't! It would be a mess to cleanup any accidents.

Q: What size propane tank

You can use any tank. The 1 lb tank you can just screw right on. I personally use the 20lb tank which I let sit on the ground under the table and run a hose through umbrella hole to the bowl. The 20 lb tank will last a long time.
