Exactly what I wanted!
I make custom cakes for birthdays and other special occasions, and for years, have been using wooden dowels (sold in arts and crafts stores) to provide internal support to tiered cakes. Then one day I was watching Duff Goldman working on a cake on his show "Ace of Cakes", and I noticed that he had something that looked like a fat straw that he was using in place of a dowel. After researching a bit, I discovered that he uses boba tea straws instead of dowels. This appealed to me greatly since cutting wooden dowels is such a pain in the neck. I ordered these straws and I LOVE them!I use them for cakes up to three tiers without any worry of compromising the structural integrity of the cake (note: I do use a couple more than wooden dowels, just in case). For cakes with more than three tiers, I use a combination of straws and wooden dowels, just to be safe. I have found that if I strategically place one or two wooden dowels amongst the straws, I rest easier knowing my cake is all the more sturdy!I highly recommend these straws for cake decorating purposes. They are significantly cheaper and so much easier to work with! I am going to search a local Asian food market for them, so maybe I can save on shipping, too!

Great deal for a bag of straws
I have purchased this product twice now and have received two different items. The first time was a few years ago and I received a bag of purple straws that were 8 inches long and all packaged together. I loved them. I finally started to run low, so I ordered again thinking I would get the same thing.Instead, I received a bag of straws, eachindividually packaged, that are clear with red stripes and 7 inches long. However, I am still giving 4 stars because it appears the product description HAS been updated to reflect the 7 inches and because it is SUCH a great deal. For less than $5 I have plenty of straws to hopefully last me another year or two. Shipping took about two weeks, though the estimated window that was given was around 6 weeks.Note: I use these straws for green smoothies and they work perfectly. They are thick and sturdy and hold up to the thickness of the smoothies unlike standard sized straws that clog easily. I see many others on here using them for cake decorating. Though a creative idea I have not used them for that purpose.

Great Price - Great Quality!
I volunteered for a fun day at my daughter's kindergarten class and needed these for a craft project. I couldn't find any wide straws for a reasonable price (I was supplying out of pocket for 70 children) at any local stores so of course I checked amazon. I only had a week until I needed them but the price was right and no shipping cost! I was worried they wouldn't come in time but they were here within 3 days! I received clear straws with green stripes and clear straws with red stripes. It was perfect for what we needed and I even have leftovers that we have been using in smoothies. They are sturdy and held up to a bunch of preschoolers/kindergarten kids playing rough with them and work great for drinking smoothies or milkshakes. I will buy these again for sure!

SCAM! Not as bad as a single straw, but almost.
My wife ordered these for cake decorating, but they were not as described. "Straws are about 1/2" in diameter and 7" long" is not even technically true. These straws are flat on one end and cut (tapered) on the other, making the length on the short side of the taper 5 inches and the long side of the taper 5.5 inches. What it looks like (in reality) is that whoever is selling these had a bunch of 10.5 inch big, thick straws and tried to "double the number" by cutting them in half at an angle. When you actually put the cut edges of 2 straws together, they are only 10.5 inches. Then, when you take out the 1/2 inch angle that my wife would have to snip off, these are 5-inch straws. So, for her shorter cakes, this will work, but for thicker tiers the difference between the description and reality is significant. Also, the ones we got came straight from Guandong, China, so I'm not even 100% sure these are food-grade. I did give an extra star because we got more than some of the "single straw" horror stories (we got 53 of these half-straws) and they do seem to be pretty sturdy.

Ehh...s'OKAY
If you can find anything LIKE these anywhere locally to you, you're far better off, you know. These are NOT that special, they're throw-away-grade, one-use stuff, and there just aren't enough of them per package either, to justify having them shipped from MAINLAND CHINA!!!In retrospect, anyway.I found a pack of nearly IDENTICAL drinking straws at my local Big Lots just last night, after having ordered these things last month. The Big Lots 'specials' were $1.88 cents per 50 count bag, so...next time, next time, but I feel pretty stupid.I highly recommend anyone coming 'here' to buy 'these', who was trying to beat the deals on 'Tupperware' type straws, just go ahead and buy those reusable, adjustable, 'quality' ones, because these don't even remotely compare.Well--actually they do--compared to those, they're complete trash, and another waste of money. A single T-ware straw is worth 50 of these, easily.

Short of my expectations.
I think this deserves one and a half stars..... But I'll round down. I'm disappointed about this item. The straws are said to be 7" in the description, but they are about a quarter inch shorter than a US dollar bill. This makes them less than 6 inches in length. They ARE a good quality plastic. They do however take a while to arrive (Mine shipped from china). They are also just a little bit smaller in diameter than normal restaurant Boba-Tea style straws. I find this to be a positive since the restaurant style ones are usually a bit too big in my opinion.
