Buy this for his birthday
This is a real 'Boys Own' read. Buy it for sons, husbands, fathers, boyfriends - such a 'no brainer' gift for a bloke. The cover is stupendous and, for once, you can judge this book entirely by the cover. The reason I don't rate it a five is because it isn't the type of book I'd normally read (I don't do blood, guts and soldiers) - but, saying that, I still raced through in a day and a half so I hope that, dear reader, says it all. There are so many extraordinary tales of WW2 - and so many extraordinary men - and here we are: bravery, intelligence, downright daring, meeting the King of Greece AND Ava Gardener, really, who can ask for more?Get by the jocular style and Field does, occasionally, give you an insight into the soldier's psychology that we don't normally come across. For example, good, brave men didn't rush to D Day when they felt they'd done their bit elsewhere- and commanders realised it was better sending men in afresh - this has nothing to do with cowardice, just practical sense. That's what sets this book (despite Creed's occasionally rather self-satsified, jocular style) apart.Forget the gardening gloves and the sat nav - give him this for his birthday.

A Series of Exploits
Interesting although it rather skates over the highlights and the picture of life in occupied Greece is fairly superficial. It probably suffers from not being purely autobiographical, in the way that, say, Roy Farran's 'Winged Dagger' is.

Ripping yarn !!
Excellent account of drawing do's and don'ts based on the memoirs of a young rampant officer during wartime .All in the manner of “fired a few pot shots had a few fired back buggered off for tea!! '

Excellent Account Of Amazing Courage
This is a surprising WWII story of Gordon-Creeds extraordinary deeds and life in Greece, told mainly by himself posthumously through his diaries.

Well written and not just for men!
Really enjoyable read! Made that period come alive, was humerous, interesting, well written and well researched.Surprised how much I enjoyed reading a " military blokes" book.
