The Incredible Mr. Don Knotts: An Eye-Popping Look at His Movies

One of Stephen Cox's Best Efforts
Based on other Amazon reviews -- and the fact I recognized this book was penned (in part) by Stephen Cox -- I bought this book two weeks ago. I have many of Cox's books, (the best of which IMHO is The Addams Chronicles) and the Knotts book is surely among his top efforts. I am thoroughly enjoying this book and the way it is structured, with individual coverage on specific films as well as interviews with cast members from those films.MY ONLY AVERSION TO THIS BOOK - which is no fault of Cox's and in fact I am very glad he chose not to hold back specific information - are the surprisingly sour, conceit-packed and teeming-with-obvious-jealousy comments from SKIP HOMIER in "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken" section. Good heavens, Skip. What in the WORLD did the late Don Knotts do to you to deserve such a nasty, back-biting and sniffling account of your memories of filming "Ghost"? It sounds to me, from all of the other cast comments, not only from "Ghost" but from all of the other films, that Don Knotts was the consummate professional as well as a very gracious individual. Did you feel snubbed perhaps, because TGAMC did not "STAR" Skip Homier ...or were you snubbed by Don or someone else on the set? I was truly surprised at your comments - unless you are punking us all and you intentionally provided nasty comments that were intended to be in the character of "Ollie" ... could that be?Overall, I highly recommend this book for ANY great-to-moderate Don Knotts fan. It is well worth the cost and much, much more. Very well researched and written. A+!

The Incredible Mr. Don Knotts Book!
Steve Cox and Kevin Marhanka remind us that Don Knotts was much more than THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW. Don had a talent and instinct to make us laugh with his timing, physicality, and vocal delivery & inflection. And he brought those assets to motion pictures too.Don's film career is often considered secondary to his work on television. But it's no less entertaining, and no less important to his life and career. In small movie roles, Don stole scenes from Doris Day, Phil Silvers (no easy task) and Andy Griffith. Starring in his own films at Warner Bros, Universal and Disney, Don's films may not have been fully embraced by the critics, but the public certainly lined up at the box office for the laughs. The critics sure came around for PLEASANTVILLE though!Cox and Marhanka highlight all this with their detailed overview of Knotts' movie career. Bit roles, starring vehicles, TV movies with Orson Welles (and even Scooby Doo)... they're all here. Candid and studio photos, trade reviews, costar/crew interviews and accounts with Tim Conway, Carol Cooke, Skip Homeier, Maggie Peterson, Barbara Rhoades, Frank Welker, selected costar profiles, more...A highly recommended look at the life and films of the beloved actor & entertainer, Don Knotts.

Great Fun!
Just got this book, and thumbed directly to the section on The Ghost and Mr. Chicken - my favorite Knotts film. The authors do not disappoint. This is a beautiful book - the color photos are lush - jam packed with great information. I especially like the "Whatever became of..." sections.I'm not even 1/4 of the way through the book, and I got my money's worth.Thank you, Steve and Kevin.

The Incredible Mr. Don Knotts
There will never be anyone as gifted and loved in a sitcom as Don Knotts was. I have seen all of his movies, but this book gives me the background and insight to his characters and the actors and crew that worked with this beloved genius.

A wonderful review of the movies Don Knott's is best known for.
I've been a massive Don Knott's fan since the age of 7 (NASA was still sending men to the moon then). Knott's original 60s movies spoke to me on a level I could understand, his characters had a certain depth beyond the 'G' rated comedic content. I could relate to his underdog persona, a human being seeking the truth in the face of adversity. Don Knott's was and always will be one of my hero's.I've never purchased or owned any biography (book/DVD/VHS) about Don Knott's until I saw this one at Amazon. I can't be sure why I waited so long, but it was absolutely worth it. This quasi-picture book is just a little short on content as I would have preferred a full-on chapter dedicated to each one of his 'Big 5' movies. That said, obviously it's a labour of love by Marhanka and Cox, something which can be appreciated by Knotts' true fans.Hopefully in the near future there will be more books available from these righteous dudes. I'm thinking a biography of 60s and 70s Saturday Morning cartoons, the original Planet of the Apes movie series and a biography about Drive-in movie theatres from the 60s to the 80s.

Pretty good account of Don Knotts movie career
Pretty good account of Don Knotts movie career. A little information on each movie plus some interviews with costars. Was hoping for a little more information on Don and his personal life. No real mention of him on 3's company.
