As Good as the original, but 1/4 of the price!
These icemaker sensor parts for my Whirlpool icemarker were a drop in replacement for the originals that are know to fail after a few years. If your icemaker stops making ice and red light blinks twice repeatedly when you close the freezer flap, it usually means that it's the infrared sensor and switch that has failed and this should fix the problem. Whirlpool replacement parts were $200 while these were close to $30. Only tools needed were a philips head screw driver. Make sure you turn the power of as well before starting the job so the fridge and reset everything when the you are done and the power is back on. Just be careful removing the connectors and reattaching them as the leads from the fridge are very short and can be hard to get on and off if you have big fingers. Directions were very clear and there are youtube videos as well that show the installation process. Only minor con was the packaging which offered minimum protection for the two circuit boards. The parts were shipped in an anti-static bag which was then placed inside a normal amazon plastic bag which I'm sure helps keep the costs down but could have easily been crushed by bad handlers in transit. Since nothing appeared damaged, I gave it a try and I had ice within a few hours! The whole job took me around 5 minutes and way cheaper than calling out a repairman who would charge you a flat rate to just show up plus parts.

Easy install, except for the connector clip
When the icemaker in my 42" Kitchenaid fridge stopped working, I found a video that showed how to diagnose the problem and provided a link to this product. I decided to gamble on the part before calling in an appliance repair company. Removing the two old circuit boards was a little awkward, access to a couple of the screws was made a little more difficult by the icemaker assembly. The white plastic connector was a bit tricky to unplug, mainly because the wires that attach it in the freezer are fairly short, so one had to wedge one's fingers into a small space and grip the connector tightly to remove it.The new boards fit perfectly. But, if unplugging the old connectors was difficult, plugging the new ones in seemed impossible. the opening on the connector that snaps it into place was about 1mm narrower than on the old one. This meant a LOT of force would be needed to snap it in, more than I could generate in the cramped receptacles in the freezer. I ended up sanding away a bit of the projection on the new connectors. The first one I did with sandpaper, but the second was much less tedious when I used a little sanding disk on a dremel-style tool. With the connector gaps widened a little, they snapped together with only moderate difficulty. And, the icemaker worked perfectly afterwards. Except for the connector difficulty, this was an easy repair. (It could be my particular model had an odd connector?) This product avoided a big repair bill.

Easy repair that likely saves over $150 if you DIY.
For all the wanna be Whirlpool repair folks looking around for part(s) to get the ice maker working again, look no further. My side by sides ice maker had a mind of its own the past several weeks. When it felt like it, it worked. I tried the reset sequence multiple times and once it actually filled the ice bin. Then it went on strike. After reading several what could be the problem searches, it came to the optical sensor system. Ok, I ordered it, arrived in a respectable time, and was packaged like you’d expect circuit boards would be. So, go get a stubby Phillips head and a thin slotted head screwdriver. Cut the power to the fridge, take the ice bin out, use the stubby to unscrew either side. Carefully use the thin slotted head to pry the connector off. Remove and replace the sensor part and reinstall. Be careful you line up the prongs from the card to the connector and seat it. Same process on the other side. By the time I came back from the basement to cut the power back on, ice was dumping and refilling. On average a cycle every 45 min until the bin filled. So far so good. I’m a happy camper with ice again.

Ice Ice Baby
Folks, let me tell you how this product COMPLETED MY LIFE. At first, I was happy and content, thinking how life was just swell with my Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator flawlessly cranking out ice on demand. When, all of a sudden, the ice stopped. Instant crisis. How can I go about my day knowing that I may have very well consumed my last ice cube? Sleepless nights, distracted while at work, trouble in bed, you name it. Sure, I could call an appliance repair man, but my name isn't Rockefeller. I continued to ponder my dilemma over warm drinks. Those were the warmest drinks of my life. Then, it hit me. You Tube! A few instructional videos and one, ONE!, Amazon search later, I found the 4389102 for Whirlpool Refrigerator Icemaker Emitter Sensor Control Board W10757851 AP5956767 Condition New. Six Phillips head screws, badda boom, badda bing, and We're in the Ice, Baby!! Every time I hear that ice tray fill, my entire family breaks into choreographed celebratory dance. Now, I'm sleeping again, work is going well, and let's just say the Mrs. sure ain't complaining. Thanks, North American HVAC! Thumbs up!
