Tecumseh 37052, 37050, 37052a starter drive gear kit, fits 33328, 33329, 37000 starter motors

This is a direct fit for the Tecumseh #37000 starter. It appears to be the wrong size at first but the gear does engage the middle of the tooth pattern after testing. The most important thing to watch for this type of gear is the very end of it where the snap ring goes. The original and discs are are identical in that aspect

Worked great to refurb my starter. A little tricky to get the ring clip off and on without the purpose built tool but a small screwdriver and a needle nose made it happen. There are Chinese knock off - whole starter- that cost about 2x this part. I bought one if those first then fixed the original with this part. It’s on the shelf waiting...

Tecumseh 3700 , worked perfectly, no issuesWhy reviews with problems with round ring?Do this : unbolt the starter only, no need to remove whole assembly, cut off old ring with a cut off wheel on a grinder, install new parts, stretch out new ring with two pairs of plyers, put on ring and close it on groove with plyers. No special tools needed, very simple repair

Finally got around to install the new gear drive. Everything looked like the right parts .Hit the start button and tore all the teeth off the gear! Not going to try this again will just start manually! Thank you.

1. if you are reading this, you must have had broken teeth on your original starter. Mine came when the starter became loose from vibrations of the snow blower,, so that should be checked periodically.. i added lock washers , i hope that holds it2. Removal of the snap ring was a pain, but i managed to pry off the old one with a 7/16 open ended wrench..and some luck but it disfigured the ring, my C clip pliers didn't do the job at all.3. the only reason for the kit is the snap ring, as you will probably disfigure the old one.4 Everything fit perfectly, and the replacement spring was a tad stronger.

The drive gear and thrust plate fit and work good. The return spring is not the same as OEM - doesn't have enough pressure to function properly. Retaining ring is not correct for the shaft size and groove. Hold on to these old components just in case.

Although it says it's for the 37000 model, the gear is not quite as long as the old one. The teeth do not engage as much with the ring gear on the motor. I put a flat washer behind the gear to make up a little difference, but I'm not convinced that the starter is pushing the gear out enough for consistent starting.The special snap ring is a pain. I used a small cut-off wheel to make a slot, like a key slot in the starter shaft and then pressed a sharp awl through the slot to lift out the ring (several times as I kept trying to improve gear engagement)

The replacement procedure is somewhat difficult and this kit is slightly undersized compared to OEM, but so far, there have been no problems in its performance.
