Refined and compact
This is a beautiful wood board and because of the size it easily stores in the car so we use it more often.

Spotty craftsmanship
I’m really torn about this product. It looks nice and the inlays look nice and tight. The magnetic closure is effective. The hinges are of very poor quality and are attached with screws that are not screwed straight in. Additionally. The board does not open flat, thus it wobbles and every time you try to make a move the board either jostles or spins on the table. This alone makes it difficult to play with. Perhaps adjusting the hinges will fix this but for the price this shouldn’t be something I need to do. I feel that this is over priced based on the quality of the product.

It works as is, and you get good value for the price, but think of it like a kit.
Its inconsistent. As a woodworker I can see the inlay work is better than I can do at home. The joinery is good, and strong, but not as fancy as the inlay work. The hinges were obviously the cheapest product on sale that day but they do technically work, they're just not on the same high quality level as the woodwork. The finish is ... sparse, and I need to hit it with some poly finish, maybe a coat of wax to make it look really good, durable, fill the wood pores. The die provided are much like the hinges, of the "are you serious?" level of quality. Yes I got all the parts and they do work... Yeah yeah I know its unfair to compare $20 each precision die to "good enough to ship" but still, maybe they should have spent ten cents per die at the factory rather than two cents per die... Also it needs an after market latch added so I can carry it in my backpack. There is a weak magnet holding it closed which is good enough for non-backpack use.I'm well aware there are $750 luxury travel backgammon kits available, and I would not tolerate the problems with this set if I paid $750 for this set... but I didn't pay $750 for this set. In its price class its better than I expected and that's why I give it 5 stars while still complaining at length about rather obvious areas of improvement. As the "Ford" of backgammon tables its 5 stars, as a "Rolls Royce" of backgammon tables it would be kind of lacking, but I paid "Ford" prices so...I feel this is the smallest (eleven inch) set people can comfortably play. I respect people who would disagree and say its simply too small. I would recommend against people of lesser finger dexterity buying a set this small, they'd be much happier with a larger set. Of course larger sets won't fit in backpacks...Overall its usable out of the box, but I think of it like a kit that can be easily and cheaply improved. In summary, you'll be happy buying it for the price you pay.

Play On
This is a beautiful product for the money! The workmanship is impressive. The size is large enough for comfortable rather than tedious play and small enough to take along while traveling or a game away from home. The game pieces are not fancy but functional.

Beautiful board - but doesn't put up well with travel
It's a beautiful board, but with two sets of magnets that hold the entire set together, it's not the right board to take travelling, unless it stays in the cardboard box that it travels with.Additionally, the wooden pips could be a bit nicer (perhaps more smooth; mine are quite rough), but on the whole, it's a solidly-made board. I did replace the dice with bone dice, and I suspect that if I get around to it, I'll be replacing the pips that came with the board with ones that aren't quite so rough. That said, the craftsmanship of the board is beautiful and well done, and I recommend it for having it at home.

Not bad.
You know, I think I paid like $15.00 for this board (with shipping!). Firstly, I like that its made of nice looking wood, sure, but just don't expect it to be just like the one grampa had. It ain't that.On the other hand, it was 15 bucks, right? It seems a little cheap where the pieces of wood were glued, yet it is solid over all. I like that there is a magnet on each side of the lid where it closes that secures it nicely. They could have covered the tiny nail holes in a couple of places... again, it was only 15 bucks, right?I like it... but then I'm easy.
