An enigmatic drifter becomes the talk of a small Texas town, but finds the pettiness of the locals becoming too much to take in this drama starring John Schneider, Ernie Hudson, and Robert Davi. The moment the bus doors closed behind Sam Doonby (Schneider), the local rumor mill began to churn. Meanwhile, as the musically gifted Sam begins drawing big crowds down at Leroy's Country Blues Bar, he catches the eye of entitled Laura (Jennifer Gotzon), the daughter of a prominent local doctor (Joe Estevez). But when Sam's helps the townspeople avoid a series of potential disasters, the gossip begins turning vicious. And the moment Laura allows herself to be swayed by the suspicions of others, Sam vanishes into thin air. Now, without the grace of a stranger to help guide them, the perplexed locals begin looking inward, and realize they may have been too quick to cast the first stone.

Solid movie which makes you think
John Schneider stars as a mysterious man who arrives in a small Texas town by bus. A drifter choosing this town by chance or is there some purpose to his arrival? I will not spoil the plot or the ending for you other than to say that Doonby is faintly reminiscent of IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, TWILIGHT ZONE and even more faintly of PALE RIDER. Despite some reviewers' complaints about the acting, this movie costars several notable actors who do a fine job. The movie begins and ends well but there are some slow bits in between. Some of the one and two star reviews were written by some thin skinned atheists and leftists who complain about things such as "a crap last half hour of religious claptrap" which does not exist in this movie. This reviewer also wrote, "Amazon really should add a christian (sic) warning for fairytale indoctrination nonsense like this." Others complain of it being fundamentalist, anti choice propaganda and shoving religion down viewers' throats. Another thin skin said, "This movie is complete crap... it's got an offensive agenda. If I want to watch a movie, I don't need to be preached at about someone's anti-choice beliefs. It should come with a warning that it's religious propaganda or be in a separate section for religious movie." Whatever this movie is, it is not religious propaganda. Sam Doonby is a bartender. A good portion of the movie takes place in a friendly, happy bar owned by a friendly, happy couple. From another thin skin, "the message was ridiculous and nothing but propaganda." A major part of the message is that one life does matter. If you find that message ridiculous, I suggest you watch something else. I streamed this movie via Amazon Prime.

You can make the mistake easily of looking at the film as just a story ...
This movie at first had me thinking it was simple, small town romantic dramedy when it began. I had seen primary actor, John Schneider, in many films but it was my first time seeing female lead and romantic interest, Jenn Gotzon. Both Ernie Hudson and Robert Davi were very powerful character actors, so that should be enough to make viewers give it a chance. You can make the mistake easily of looking at the film as just a story of a small town and their characters interacting, but the main story is so much bigger. I don't want to give away the main storyline but I felt similar at the end watching "The Sixth Sense." The movie had many layers and until everything unfolded, you just did not know how deep the story content was. It's a beautiful love story and thriller, and at the heart of it it shows in a most incredible way, the sanctity and the worth of just one life. After seeing this movie I requested interviews with Jenn, Ernie and Robert because they were such powerful supporting characters. We held a red carpet event and had Jenn Gotzon come out and not only walk the red carpet, but answer questions after the movie. There was such a powerful reaction from so many people including young adults. It's a film that I think many people of different backgrounds and ages, can find one character that they personally relate to or they have a family member or friend that is in that situation. There is more than one life in the movie that needs reflection and change, and for me it highlighted how quickly things can change forever. It's an incredible movie with a cast that really seemed to care about the storyline and the delivery of the message of the movie. I own the movie and have watched it many more times since the red carpet and that's unusual for me. Make sure if you watch the movie to carefully watch the subtle nuances of the characters and not just look at it as a country Little Town film because it's so much more!DJ Ginger, Host/Producer"The Overdrive Show"

A clever little anagram..
... as a title, a complete cast of small town characters and the existential problem of the ages. I am surprised at the lack of depth of some of the commentors hereon. Some have completely overlooked the scenario and brandished their crosses screaming blasphemy. This film poses a philosophical question. It does not pose an offense against humanity to a reasonable intellect, nor is it with intent to offend the gods. It is likely just a movie. It is likely not a deep state message to motivate sleeper cells funded by the Illuminati to position themselves for zero population growth. Let's move on.While the plot is incomplete, and the actors are maybe a little past their prime or before their prime, the directing keeps the flow . It is obvious that with more talent in all arenas, this movie would have been better received, and that's not to say it isn't a though provoking, but it is to say the whole thing could have been better done with more money, better writers and editors. The plot is geared to occasional surprises, but the predictability steals that thunder, except the last quarter. What with the irregular zingers I was prepared for another but not that one. It actually was a surprise. The last scene is a head-scratcher also, and leaves room for further possibilities. Or not.Suffer the first 30 minutes and you'll get into the film despite the protagonist's heroics.

Great message
I appreciated the surprises and the emotional pull this story had on me. As a viewer, you can certainly tell that something unknown is going on underneath the story's surface, and this sense keeps you interested and glued to the story. Every family needs a copy of this movie.

Sad But Beautiful
Awesome film. Will not be popular with liberals as it highlights the sad reality of some of their pet policies. John Schneider is excellent. A sad but beautiful film.
