This is a beautiful coffee table book reflecting all of the imagery and style of horse people. I enjoyed this book because unlike a lot of horsey books which focus on the animals, this one focused squarely on the people and their homes. It's also about the lifestyle of being part of the equestrian community. Some of the items photographed made me feel nostalgic like the cutesy horsey sweaters I remember my riding instructor wearing when I was a child. Others were more like interesting solutions to horse people problems, like what to do a giant collection of show ribbons amassed over the course of one's lifetime? For those who love the imagery of fox hunting, polo, kids in hunter shows on shaggy shetlands, ball gowns, etc. this book will make you swoon. The horsemanship portrayed here is not the horsemanship of a cowboy, but the horsemanship of the field, the polo field, the racetrack, and the show ring. I live in the city, and so I can't always look out the window to see my beloved rolling Maryland hills. This book is a good guide for bringing a bit of the country into my little city row house, though.

You CAN judge this book by its cover...a doorway to the awesome world of the horse and all who revere them. This most excellent book is profuse with equestrian scenes, inviting decor, and and historic notes that will keep you spellbound; at the least, quite egaged each time you open its beautiful cover. I was so pleased to find not only new inspiration and ideas for re-arranging the many equestrian treasures I have lived with throughout my life, but as a true bonus, excellent sidenotes which detailed how to maintain, preserve and protect many of the antiquated items so often found in equestrian styled rooms. I found fresh, lovely ideas for both indoors and out. My only complaint is that I desire more time to re-read and savor its pages. Until those hours arrive, this handsome book resides on a prominent table, where it augments a treasured equestrian vignette. Thank you to Vicky Moon for producing such an enticing and informative read. Thank you to my seller, who posted this book to me with great speed, and in absolutely "brand-new" condition. I highly recommend this book and this seller.

I'm in the design business and use shelter books for reference and inspiration with clients. I won't be looking back at this one. It felt like a Town and Country magazine spread - clubbish and social. I would have preferred more emphasis on design and architecture across a more democratic slice of society. There are a lot more people with horses than the pastel-clad polo crowd.

This is an incredibly awesome look at all things based around generations of primarily English, with some American, equine; history, traditions, fashion, decor, the horsey-set coming together. So well done, this gorgeous, large volume could actually serve as a “coffee table book.” A beautiful look into a way of life achieved via devotion to the “horse,” along with a bit of the upper crust.

Beautiful large coffee table book. I thought it would have more interior design pages of multiple horse owners homes and how they incorporated living with horses into formal design.

The real selling point for me is how good this book cover looks on top of the vintage steamer trunk that I use as my coffee table. It almost cannot be beat. The book itself is pretty good, though I wish some of the photos were a little better in terms of the quality of the still.

For those in the equestrian world and for those who only dream about it, this book reveals the many aspects of riding, racing, hunting, jumping, decorating, dressing, entertaining, collecting, crafting and painting in relation to traditional country life with horses.
