So worth it. As a petite person, my hands are tiny so... it's a bit much for me BUT.... it's great to have on hand. Literally. It's currently in my Go-Bag. (I live in hurricane, swamp, and the occasional tornado land) I haven't tried to fire start with it yet... we're in an awful drought... but I'm sure it will work just fine. I sharpened an old blade with the stone - worked great. Love the lifetime guarantee. Love fixed blade. Sharp. Great weight. Good balance. The whistle is cute. Loud enough. For me, it's bit big to wear in my belt. but totally doable in a pinch, especially, if I'm running for my life. I'll get a leg strap for it. Hopefully, this is the only survival knife I'll ever need. If not, I've got some BIG problems! Worth every penny.

This is a reasonably priced knife for everyday outdoor carry, kit, or bug-out bag. The knife is sharp out of the package and the sheath appears surprisingly well built. This piece feels nice in your hand and the sheath seems good and of nice quality with what appears to be high quality stitching as well. As you can see in my photos I have made a few personal modifications like adding a leather dangler so the knife rides lower and hopefully provides some strength and longevity to the sheath strap. Another reason is the ability to add it to your belt or molle on your bag. The paracord is nicely placed and gives additional cordage for a leg tie or any other needs. Like others the ferro rod rides upside down but is FIRMLY secure to the sheath with a gasket seal and requires some effort to deploy it. Keep in mind that the ferro rod is a last resort so you should not have to remove it constantly if as always you carry matches or a lighter. I am very confident that it will stay in place with minimal risk of coming out or becoming lost. I would by this again and recommend it to anyone looking for a cost effective outdoor, kit, or bug-out-bag knife.

Good quality knife with extra features. I researched before this purchase and this is a great value for the money. The blade is sharp, full tang. The sharpening stone is conveniently integrated in the sheath, the whistle is loud, and the ferrous rod (fire starter) gives a robust spark.

See, this is where Gerber excels. Gerber should just do fixed-blade knives, because this thing is excellent. Gerber, don't do folders anymore, just make really really good full tang fixed blade knives! The good: 1. The sheath secures and locks the blade nicely, it's not going to fall out, but it'll come out when needed. You can do a scout carry or on your hip, the sheath supports both. 2. That built in sharpener is pretty handy, though it would be better if they recessed the screws or had screws screwed into the back of the sharpener rather than the front (I'm running the blade along that, get out of the way, screws!) 3. okay okay, let's talk about other stuff on the sheath, like the ferrocerium rod. It seems a bit small, but with the handle that it's attached to, it's very effective. 4. The blade itself is 420HC I believe, good corrosion resistance, full tang, holds an edge, and the striker for the ferrocerium rod is on the backside of the blade. 5. Oh and the hammer pommel is pretty awesome. I've used it for stakes. Beats using the back side of a screwdriver because you forgot the mallet. A few not so good things: 1. The whistle: ehhhh. I lost it. I untied it, then I couldn't get the lanyard back on it, and eventually lost it. Oh well. Don't ever untie the whistle. I didn't buy it fir the whistle. 2. The screws on the built-in sharpener - why would you stick screws in the front? That's just daft. I get that it makes assembly easier at the factory, but that means that the sharpener looses a lot of surface area to the darn screw heads. So would I recommend this? Yeah, I gave it four stars, which means "Above average, a few quirks, but definitely good". Mine is kept in my car.

These are the best survival knife’s I have purchased anywhere. Great combination with utility and preparedness. Definitely recommended to anyone who is an outdoor enthusiast or just wanting a good quality survival knife.

As usual, Gerber has made another great product that has been around for years. I bought this smaller version without the glass breaker if you look at this product bigger Brother. Great price versatility and quality is above and beyond. Great value for the money I would strongly recommend this product. Mine will solely be used for those backpacking occasions.

Great knife, I also have the Bear Grylls version that I found at a pawn shop. I lost the fire starting ferro rod on my other knife, it fell out of the retainer. I don't like that it's faced down when wearing the knife in the sheath on my belt, if the ferro rod loosens a little or snags on something then gravity makes sure it falls out. To avoid losing the ferro rod on this one I tied a loop of string through the hole on the ferro rod, wrapped it around the sheath and secured it to the lower Velcro strap. It seems strange to me that the ferro rod doesn't have a safety string from the factory. The reason I gave the knife a 5 is that the ferro retainer is an accessory, not the knife itself. The diamond sharpener on the back of the sheath is a nice addition. It's not real big but it's okay for touching up the edge while away from home. It's fairly rough, not a fine grit but okay for fixing a dull spot. The factory blade edge was sharp on part and shaved hair off the back of my hand. Part of the blade was slightly dull. A few strokes on my diamond sharpener fixed it. There are three straps on the back of the sheath. One is vertical for hanging from a belt. Two are horizontal, one each at the top and bottom of the sheath. These should make it easy to mount to a shoulder strap on a backpack, or to use the lower one with a leg strap when carrying on a belt. The survival whistle is okay, not real loud but better than nothing. The sheath latch holds onto the knife very tight, it takes a firm pull to get the knife out. The sheath has a separate nylon strap on the back. I like that opening both Velcro straps allows the sheath to pivot down away from the backing strap, but it doesn't come completely off. Presumably as the Velcro gets weak with age and use, if the sheath swings down in use it will flop around and draw attention, rather than just falling off and getting lost. Swinging the sheath down exposes the sharpener. Overall a great knife, easy 5 rating.

Great knife especially for only $80 comes with a nice and sharp blade with a grip that feels sturdy. I have used the sharpener once in the time I have had it. I have also been able to light a few fires with the flint and steel and really like the sheath. Super happy with this purchase.

Received the set and the knife and case seem great! I haven’t had a chance to use it yet but if I use it and my opinion changes I’ll definitely come back here and change my review!

Have the bear grills version also. Had it for over a decade and got lots of use. Many days in the backcountry using it for everything from food prep to fire wood and more. It’s been everywhere including in the lake when our dog flipped the canoe and still as good as the first day I got it. The hammer part you’d think you would use until you have it then you can’t stop. Got this version in case thy stop making it. Just as good as the one I already have. For the weary I toe a small length of paracord to the flit handle and the sheath for the long portages and hikes. Never fell out it just makes me feel better.

Love this knife, I keep it in my car when on a camping trip. It’s got a few handy things like knife sharpener, whistle for attracting attention & flint for fire starting are the handy things for me.
