Just the best pants/shorts for me!
I love this pants, they are light, easy to clean (I'm a messy eater), stretchy enough to be comfy, they have a nice cut to make my booty pop. I had one already, and bought a second one for a trip to China during the summer, and in 100 degree day almost continuously, I could tell the difference if I wore other shorts, this felt cooler, because the fabric although very strong is also very light, also great if you light to pack light and end up having to wash a pair in an hotel room sink, they dry very quickly. Also the elastic waistband lets me wear them without a belt which can become uncomfortable. The stitching and materials are of great quality, and I fells that it will take many years to break them, definitively worth every penny. I have them on right now!

Versatile Hiking Pants That Do It All
Versatile Hiking Pants That Do It All These Columbia Silver Ridge Convertible Pants have become my go-to for hiking and travel because of how practical they are. The lightweight fabric feels breathable, dries quickly, and the UPF 50 sun protection is a real plus when I’m outdoors for hours. I appreciate that they don’t feel heavy or restrictive, even when the weather heats up. The zip-off design is clever—being able to switch from full pants to shorts without carrying an extra pair saves space and weight. The zippers are smooth and placed just right, so they don’t rub uncomfortably. The fit is true to size, and I like that the waistband has some flexibility, which helps when I’m moving around or layering underneath. The multiple pockets are deep enough for essentials, and the security pocket is handy for small valuables. One thing to keep in mind: the fabric is thin, which is great for breathability, but if you’re doing rugged bushwhacking you may want something a bit more abrasion-resistant. Also, the lighter colors can show dirt quickly, though they wash up easily. Bottom line: These pants strike an excellent balance of comfort, versatility, and function. If you spend time outdoors hiking, camping, or traveling light, they’re a smart addition to your gear.

Great hiking pants but durability is not the best
I only wear convertible hiking pants when I'm on the trail and camping because it's like 2 pieces of clothing in one, so you can save some space. I have bought 4 pairs of these Columbia hiking pants in the past 5 years and I really like them. They fit well (although I do think they run a bit small) and are comfortable. The bottoms are very easy to take off and put back on. The biggest issue is that they are not the most durable in the pockets. After a year of wearing them, I always get holes in the pockets, especially the back pockets. I still wear them even with the holes but I wish they could make them more durable.

Columbia Convertible Pant: Extreme Comfort Both On and Off the Trail
Let me start by saying I read a lot of reviews stating these pants run small. This may be true for some, but for a 26 year-old 5'11" 155lb frame guy like myself these fit absolutely perfect in 32x30. Now that that's out of the way, let's get to the good stuff: These are the most comfortable pair of pants I own. The synthetic fabric is extremely lightweight, breathable, yet retains durability and excellent stain resistance. The tusk color is basically khaki despite the grayish overtone shown in the online picture. If they become wet they'll dry within minutes, a must for hiking pants. Columbia includes a military webbing-style belt with the pants that I would only use in an emergency situation. I'm not sure which kind of emergency situation calls for a cheap belt, but hey, it's there. The zipper separator runs just above the knee which prevents chafing on extended hikes. The left cargo pocket is zippered, the right pocket Velcro. The zippers all seem solid, with seams blended wonderfully. Now for easy reading, my list: PROS: + EXTREMELY comfortable. I cannot stress this enough, it's almost like being naked from the waist down. + Very lightweight yet very durable. I've been stuck with numerous thorn bushes with nothing to show of it in the pant. + Dries exceptionally quickly with superior breathability allowing sweat to dissipate fast keeping your legs cool. + Convertible-style is a premium. Pants in the morning, shorts in the evening. Detachable legs are labeled at the zipper "L" and "R" for quick reattachment. + The waistline features a 2-inch stretch-band right above the hipbones, which, when coupled with a stretchable belt allows for quick and easy pissing. This doesn't seem like much, but when you have to relieve yourself and don't have to dick around adjusting a belt makes for getting back on the trail that much faster. + Pockets are big enough to stow away items for easy access without feeling cumbersome or loose. + Zipper banding around the leg-separator sports a layer of fabric that prevents metal-on-skin chafing. CONS: - No zipper at the bottom of the legs, you may have to remove your hiking boots to remove the pants. If however you wear hiking shoes with less profile this may not be an issue, but I wear boots and they need to be removed first. - Belt loops are a little narrow, it can sometimes take longer to insert or remove belt than it should. That being said, these are merely inconveniences that do not degrade overall performance. All in all, these are my favorite pair of pants. I don't just use them for hiking, they make excellent casual wear as well: they look plain sharp. The function over formalities earns a solid 5/5 from me.

Excellent hiking pant
These pants were are great deal compared to store I went to in person to shop for the same product. The material is light but seems durable. The cargo pockets were very useful but don't obtrusively bulge out if you happen to have things in them like a camera or a phone. I brought these for hiking in New Zealand and they were perfect. The weather there was warm and cold and these pants were comfortable in both; it's also convertible to shorts if it gets too warm. I found the fit to be true. Great product and I will buy it again.

Great for female hikers, too
I am a woman who does a lot of hiking and backpacking in humid, rainy climates. My old convertible nylon pants are worn so thin that they are transparent when wet. I found that women's hiking pants have changed in the last several years, and not for the benefit of serious hikers. It's always been difficult to find women's pants with nice big pockets, but the women's pants I looked at had pockets that would barely hold a kleenex. Most of them had very low waistbands that sat just above the hip, where my backpack would push the pants down over my butt. The zippers were placed too high, where the pants would ride up when worn as shorts. And almost all of them contain Spandex, which stays wet for days if I happen to sit on a wet log. I found an all-nylon pair at a large outfitter (the one known by its three initials, which start with R), but they didn't fit well--too big in the waist, too tight in the thighs, and the color had a militaristic olive drab sheen that wasn't visible in the picture on the outfitter's website. To avoid return shipping, I took a long excursion to the outfitters, where I shopped around and found these. The 32Wx30L fits me pretty well. Not too loose on my 31" waist and just the right length. They are not as roomy in the seat and thighs as my old pants, but definitely more roomy than a pair of Columbia's women's "Palmerton Peak" size 10 pants that I found at a local outlet mall. The nylon is a bit thinner than I would like, but the ripstop weave looks like it should do the job, and they will be cool in summer, with enough room for a pair of silk long johns on chilly wet days. The zippers are at the length of Bermuda shorts, a good length for my chubby legs. Best of all, there are 6 REALLY NICE BIG pockets. I remembered seeing these pants on Amazon at a better price, so I came home and ordered a pair immediately. By selecting the color "tusk" I was able to save $20. The color is exactly as pictured on the website, and I'm so satisfied I ordered another pair.

which is annoying while climbing up rocks or stepping over fallen trees
The product is tough and durable. It dries quickly and is lightweight as advertised. I give it three stars because the following issues. The fabric used has little or no stretch, which is annoying while climbing up rocks or stepping over fallen trees. On a five day backpacking trip I wore these for three days and it became somewhat annoying. Also, the pant bottom is to narrow to fit over my boots (standard hiking boots) and therefore required removing my boots each time I switched from pants to shorts. Some other brands have a second zipper on the bottom portion of the pant which allows for quick removal, Columbia should add this feature. The pants are quality, they just need some improvements for functionality.

Airy, light, tried in the field
Excellent pair of hiking pants. As the other reviews mentioned, I bought these pants a size up and they fit just fine with the belt that comes with it. These pants dry extremely quickly and a breathable. I brought these pants out on a hiking/canoeing/portaging trip and they held up quite well. Thinking about buying another pair. The only thing was that walking through the brush, some needles and ferns can be felt through them on the shins especially, probably because they're thin (but durable).

Poor quality control. Same size different fit
Bought two pants of the same size but different colors. The one made in India fits perfectly both in waist and in length while the one made in Bangladesh is too tight and too short.
