My Master My Commander My Captain
Janeway. That's simply what the Borg queen coldly and with astounding alarm referred to the capt. of voyager as, with a gleam in her eyes and I thought how befitting and accurate. That sums up capt. Janeway lethal, cold & calculating whenever necessary to protect her family, like any mother would protect her children. capt. j. is no ordinary person or mortal.she carries guts, gall, valor, character & morality in very large quantities and she never runs out or run low. (maybe its all that coffe) She did heroic things, things that looked suicidal or one way tickets (in some cases they actually we're) all the while with a daring take no prisoner difiant attitude. You dont want to take her head on in battle provoke or force her hand. She doesn't bluff ! I use to fancy my self being a capt. But after watching voyager I knew without a shadow of doubt I could never fill her shoes. never again not for me.This 5 ft. 2 120 .lb woman was the baddest, tuffest B....! In the delta, alpha, & expanse quadrant combined. Her reputation proceeded her sometimes. She had a knack for complete unpredictableness that was evident with jaw dropping or heart stopping scenes. She once walked directly into the head quarters stronghold of the most lethal & feared enemy forces ever known to exist & aimed a weapon directly at the leader, presumably at her head, then made demands. (I was relieved to be in my living room at the time) capt. j. could be cold & calculating if her family was being threatened or in the face of impossible odds, calm yet lethal or somtimes waiting to strike at the right precise time to deliver a catastrophic blow at the right moment to save her family or the greater good.but she was also a warm, compassionate person that often sought the advice of her favorite mentor & confidant Leonardo Divinci. I called her the mother hen of the ship always tending to her crew & sensitive to their needs, the crew to me often seemed like her sons & daughters, capt. J. took a special interest in seven, the prodigal daughter she never had guiding & mentoring her like she was her own flesh and blood. (in a way she was) Capt.Janeway i beleived held a special mental bond for seven seeing her as her real daughter.seven was essentially a over grown child naive in some ways & vulnerable (even if she had the strength of an Android) she was capt.Janeway's protégé a working progress,Seven was one of Janeways missions to help seven find her way.The voyager crew itself was artistic, aristocratic & cultured.the ship's Dr. listens to and performs opera, tuvok has a extremely high IQ & seven is a walking brain trust to name a few. A hologram,Vulcan, a Borg & others adds to Voyager's ambiance & class. Star trek voyager is poetic & romantic, lost in space far from home and anything familiar. They draw closer to each other like family.Voyager is poetry & art in motion something that moves you deeply like Shakespeare's Hamlet Voyager's performance is just as commanding worthy and fit for a king,a performance that often leaves you in total awe during defining moments or self reflection during certain scenes. One time the ship wasbeing pursued more like stalked by species 8739 (or a name similar to that) they make the invincible Borg look like choir boys. They were closing in on voyager for its destruction and inevitable final momets they fired a single shot (a mere tap on the shoulders) nearly crippling and disabling voyager completely as they flew by to make the final charge,by this time the bridge is chaotic & tense Tom Paris voyager's helmsman or pilot checks his control panel then screames in total disbelief and horror " There turning around to make another assault " capt. j. hearing this sits calmly in her chair and............... Just a common tip when viewing voyager watch at night in a dark room, large screen, loud volume, go on you tube bing Puccini or Callas play opera while you're watching voyager, this works well for the French capt. Picard too.but not as great with Archer's enterprise. The opera will enhance the show tenfold I'd suggest Puccini "just what the doctor ordered". I rate Voyager or Captain Katherine Janeway of the Star Ship Voyager 10 stars. brik w.

Janeway is the best ! Love this show
I'm editing this review again, after realizing that this review is showing up with the upcoming new Voyager DVD release, and I want to make it clear that I'm talking about the packaging for the 2004 rainbow type Voyager set. Haven't seen the new one at all, so can't comment.I'd originally thought that the Voyager packaging was better than the 2004 DS9 set but after having watched that entire series, and having handled both those sets, I guess I take it back. In terms of actual handling and use, I think the DS9 is maybe just a tad easier to cope with. The rainbow type Voyager packaging is awkward. There's a clear two piece box that goes over the colorful bit that holds the discs, That box is awkwardly designed, and it's kind of hard to get the pieces back together, and while you're accessing the discs you do have to figure out what to do with the (clear and easy to miss) pieces. I do find the disc holder to be somewhat easier to access than the (also 2004) DS9 packaging, since in the DS9 set, the whole disc holding thing is attached to a plastic piece that wraps around it. That particular style of disc holder (flat disc holding plastic bits, taped together to form a sort of book) is probably not especially sturdy, long term, whether or not it has an attached plastic overwrap, but so far they've held up okay for me. I watched Voyager in its entirety several times this past .fall (head cold and cough that would not go away) and the packaging is still holding up fine. Each season of DS9 comes with an awkward overwrap that makes it hard to get to the discs. Who dreamed that up? It looks neat, but wow, awkward.I do still enjoy these shows, and yes, Janeway's still my favorite Star Trek captain.***************************************** Original review:Like so many others, I think the packaging for this collection is really bad.Amazingly enough, even though I selected free shipping, Amazon sent this one via UPS, and it arrived fairly quickly. The package was in good shape, and even though Amazon barely used any bubble wrap, the dvds and the cases were all in good condition. My only gripe about the dvds is that they don't have a Play All option, and the episode selection menu is very clunky and not clearly labeled. Episode viewing order is top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right, and the episode numbers don't seem to correspond to anything I recognize. I'm assuming they're some sort of production or broadcast code. I'd prefer a simple 1, 2, 3 sort of sequencing, but they didn't ask me.There is some sort of 'pop up' commentary or something on one single episode, and my dvd player/remote control really wasn't happy with it in some technical way, but the episode did play. Never did get around to watching whatever pop up fanciness they were hoping to share, but then again, I'm in it for the episodes, not the commentary. The show? It holds up quite well. Production values were high throughout the entire series, and in many ways this is my favorite Trek show. Some of the other Trek series s look and sound quite dated by now, but Voyager seems to be reliably well crafted throughout. ( Early TNG, for example, has production values sometimes not far removed from TOS, and sets that look more like hotel rooms than something on an imaginary star ship.)This show dates from a time when tv shows had 26 new episodes a year, which means that there are a good many stand-alone/short story/closed loop episodes to fill out the season. Fine by me, but I do sort of wish they had more continuing story arcs the way more modern shows do. On the other hand, I don't worry about missing something if I feel like fast forwarding through or skipping an episode or two along the way.Janeway is definitely my favorite captain, but I admit that the series finale episode is not among my favorite episodes. (Just wish the series had ended with a different sort of story, not that the finale was terrible.) I wish I hadn't waited so long to get this set on dvd, but I was determined to get a good price for the new set from Amazon. (didn't want to risk buying a dud, since there have been a lot of reviews about bad quality disks from apparently unscrupulous sellers/resellers.)

How to fix the German audio glitch, affected episodes list and more.
Voyager itself is 5/5 along with Deep Space Nine, but I rate this 4/5 due to a minor annoyance with the audio language. Instead of reviewing I decided to make a helpful guide to what I've discovered and how to fix the most common complaint about German audio playing when English is selected, as some have said they even returned the set because they couldn't make it English.First to state I purchased in May 2020 direct from Amazon a brand new still sealed in plastic wrap copy of the newest marked complete UK collection release. (Amazon date marked as "28 Oct. 2013") On the underside is "TM 2016 CBS Studios." It arrived in perfect condition with no broken box which made me feel lucky compared to the photos posted by others. Even so at least two discs (S1D2 & S4D7) had scratches on the bottom (looking like a small wire comb had been lightly scraped across them.)Loading the disc presents a language menu. Selecting 'English' brings up the main menu in English, however some episodes do indeed default to German audio. So I decided to be smart and also select English from the language selection sub-menu before playing each episode (which works on DS9). This however was a failure. I tried to be sneaky and instead picked German audio thinking the menu might be backwards (and English instead will come through). The German audio started playing yet again.Thankfully however there is a solution - use your DVD player's remote control to change the audio track manually when the episode starts without going to any disc menu. Just like if you wanted to change from a directors commentary to regular audio while watching a movie. It works fine that way, all in English. For those who (like one comment) refunded because it's not in widescreen pretty much any player can stretch a 4:3 image like Voyager to 16:9 widescreen if you desire. I had someone watching it for hours and until I said about the 4:3 they didn't even know it wasn't natural widescreen. I couldn't see anyone post a full guide of German glitched episodes so here's from my test through (four episodes per disc):season 1disc 2 ep 2-3disc 7 ep 1-2 (these are star trek original series eps included as special features)season 2disc 2 ep 1-3season 3disc 2 ep 1 & 3disc 3 ep 1disc 6 ep 3-4season 4all fineseason 5disc 2 episode 1disc 3 episode 1 & 3-4disc 4 episode 1-2disc 6 episode 1season 6disc 4 episode 2disc 5 episode 3season 7disc 1 episode 2-3disc 3 episode 1disc 6 episode 4Perhaps some will find this guide useful. As far as the other reports that episodes are incomplete ending at 38 mins or so, I quickly did a check of every disc all day today skipping to the end and every episode includes the rolling end credits. I'm yet to play it all through from start to finish normal watching but I'm confident it should be ok.So if you're ok with a minor inconvenience of having to select the audio track once the episode begins then this is the set that every Voyager fan wants. A terrific DVD collection and the extras are really interesting. While clicking through I found myself stopping and watching in full a 10 minute featurette on how Voyager got its shape while being designed including sketches of failed looks.Great show, solid collection, and with no chance of ever getting a Blu-ray release essential for Star Trek fans.

Voyager on DVD is really good and no problem with Language settings at all.
I had considered purchasing this box set for around 15+ years, and my only reason for not doing so until now was due to the fact that this is on DVD and not Blu-Ray.After the Star Trek Next Generation HiDef Transfer that cost a great deal to produce, and then the sales were not satisfactory, and so it was decided by the studio that they would not do this to the Voyager Franchise was understandable and yet none the less disappointing.I finally took the plunge and purchased this, and apart from the episodes 4.3 transfer, I am pleased to own this, regardless of any reservations I initially had.If you live in the UK and want to purchase this box set then choose the one in the image above, otherwise when choosing the European version you may have issues with Language selection that can be corrected by going into the popup menu whilst watching the content / any particular disc .I am Glad I purchased. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have.

To really boldly go!
How can one but love the Star Trek: Voyager series? The cast is just astounding. A female badass captain who guides her crew with absolute iron will, a knife sharp and totally consistent Vulcan security officer, a holographic doctor that will have you rolling on the floor laughing with his wit, a gorgeous and impressively tough female chief engineer, a charming and witty conn officer, the never-ending good humoured Talaxian morale officer, his beautiful and Garbo-voiced Ocampa woman, the gentle but always stalwart first officer, an ensign that fights on in every adversity in spite of (almost) never getting his promotion and last but not least the super-goddess ex-borg in a slim-fit body suit, in every way as sharp minded as good old Spock! And that's just the main characters, some of the others are almost as good. The ship itself is another important actor also, let's not forget. I can only recommend this series. It's especially full of good episodes if you - just as I do - appreciate the old saying: "To boldly go where no man has gone before..:" Because this show is the true embodiment of those words!

24 episodes do not play in English
24 episodes do not pay in English (German with English subtitles). Not as bad as the Next Generation box set, where the whole of seasons 1 thru 5 did not play in English, seasons 6&7 were OK. Only a few of deep space nine box set episodes do not play in English so far. In short these Star Trek box sets from Amazon have very poor quality control. As I bought them all over a year ago there is no chance of any refund. Moral of the story - check every disc promptly. Voyager was a good series, more interesting than Next Generation and as good as DS9, Would have been given 4 star if not for the poor quality control.

Scarcely as bad as it is reputed to be
I cannot quite understand why this should be considered the weakest of the rebooted 'franchise'. Although it does not really scale the heady heights of TNG's 'Inner Light' or 'The Offspring', whose 'episodic' nature it shares and lacks the cohesion of DSN's over-arching plot lines, still it was no worse in 'gross', in my view, than TNG.Sure, the first three seasons are perhaps weak but still a match for the first two seasons of TNG. Although Kes in the first three seasons should have filled 'the hole' inhabited by Spock in TOS, Data in TNG and Odo in DSN, that hole is not adequately filled until the arrival of 'Seven of Nine' at the beginning of Season Four. It would be easy to charge the showrunners with oversexualising the show (Jeri Ryan does have a magificent body, corset notwithstanding) but Jennifer Lien could have done much the same as Kes, as she 'matured', but was not given the scripts to enable her to do so.All in all, I found 'Voyager' to be as engaging in 'a Star Trek fashion' as TNG and only marginally behind DSN in the satisfaction stakes. Why, therefore, only four stars? There was 'a fault' in my copy of the 'complete' boxed set, which unfortunately seems to afflict the 'season by season' 'slimline' edition as well. Randon episodes, two or three, although my Season Three I could not get to play correctly over a much larger number of episodes, were in German. One could change the language option to French, Italian or Spanish by accessing the 'audio options' menu but English for those episodes appeared unavailable. Fortunately my German is still passible and so I did not return the DVDs as 'faulty'.I have come across this before when a DVD appears to default to the language, which is the first on the list of options available; this I have experienced in multiple DVD drives, both internal ATA and USB2 and USB3.Whether this is a fault at manufacturing, which is known but what the hell, or whether it is a product of the re-shrinkwrapping of returned goods by the manufacturer, the wholesaler or the retailer, I do not know,. I owe it to myself that you are made aware of this.Edit: I forgot to mention this. If you don't want the German dialogue and you are playing this on a computer running VLC Media Player (which I hope you are!), start the video normally, as soon as you hear German dialogue, right click anywhere on the image, choose 'Audio Options' from the menu and then 'Audio Files'; you will then get the option to change to file used to 'English'. There is a brief pause and there it is. Just like the 'red button'. I am sure that a similar option is to be found in 'Windows Media Player' but it is so piss-poor that, in truth, I cannot be arsed to find it.
