Interlux Y96/QT Schooner Varnish - Quart

I painted this giraffe on plywood and looked for a good quality varnish that would protect him outside (will be placed looking over my privacy fence). Schooner’s varnish applied easily, and gave it a rich protective glow that I was hoping for!

Using this varnish on a canoe and have used it on a wooden kayak before. It levels out nicely has a high gloss. Definitely an amber color that will darken the appearance of lighter woods. Terrible odor. Need to use with good ventilation and organic vapor mask. Price has gone up recently and it is quite expensive.

After 5 months, this product has held up better than anything I have ever used.

Easy to work with

Excellent product! Flows on smoothly and levels beautifully. I used a natural bristle brush which did a great job. Outside temp was 60 degrees with low humidity. Drying time was about 4 hours. I used an air filter in the garage to remove dust from the room. I am far from a professional but the job turned out great. This was only the first coat. I will sand in a couple of days and apply the second coat.

I have used this varnish on wood kayaks with great results. You must apply coats just heavy enough to get a wet smooth look. Anything more and you're going to get runs and sags. I use a foam brush with vertical strokes followed by horizontal strokes. It drys with a great looking amber, high gloss finish.
