Phoebe and her unicorn strikes again. I have read these books since I was eight, I finished the first one in roughly two days and continued to download the newest books. I am the bookworm of my class and family, however, this graphic novel was easy-to-read and shorter. it's for all reading levels and for any age from 7-12 years. The humor is vague and sarcastic enough so that the humor was not aimed at a specific age group. I loved that about the book, I'm eleven and STILL reading them! Now, there's the storyline. (First of all, FYI, you probably should read the first book to understand all the drama and humor.) Phoebe slowly ends school, Marigold wants someone to splendor her GLORY✨✨✨✨, Phoebe contemplates why Dakota hates her, Marigold looks great in a bathing suit, nothing not worth reading.😏. The main idea though, is that this summer they are going to summer camp.....FOR UNICORNS! Phoebe struggles to shake the 'human' stereotypes she faces alongside her (human, mind you) friend Sue. Sue is an odd character, when you first see her several books before this she is a morbid social outcast, who befriends phoebe since she also has a magical friend up her sleeve. I at first didn't think she would play into the storyline well, turns out her dark comic relief sent me laughing hard. Phoebe's relatable attitude and life makes me really feel the book, and Marigold wouldn't be Marigold without narcissism. Every character that adds to this short, heart-warming comic strip makes it funnier and more realistic. The drawings are clear and cute, you can easily see the dialogue and characters change with Dana Simpson's illustrations. Also, I know this is getting long, but I feel like this was something I should. "I was worried we were enforcing gender stereotypes"- Phoebe. That line was near the end of the book and, for some in-explainable reason, made me want to point it out. I wouldn't say Phoebe and her unicorn shows girly-girl characters, not that other books do! But when I see girl power groups or the term "--like a girl!" I just feel confused, what are girls? how do you measure exactly how a girl would respond? This small comic strip showed me, along with Harry potter , that you shouldn't put an idea of girls acting one way, because they are all so different. Some books and movies, still now, only have girls for attractive master pieces of angry antagonists, then we have a girl like Phoebe who we have a closer look at, she is messy, she is complicated, she isn't always the cool, collected chic the world wants to see. She is real. That's one of the main reasons I love this comic, it shows can have different personality traits than the over-used ones. Even though a unicorn constantly is the punch line, it's for any and every type of person. Overall, this is an amazing novel. I recommend this to anyone who wants a funny, light-hearted story, or as others are calling it, Calvin and Hobbes for girls ( which sounds accurate, but I don't agree that girls can't relate to boy-centered comics). Five stars! Pls read.

My 7 year old absolutely loves this series. Her vocabulary has expanded and it has increased her love of reading. We read it together and afterwards, I hear her reading it out aloud. She has even begun her own graphic novel!

My granddaughter has laughed and thoroughly enjoyed this book and the previous books in this series. She is waiting patiently for the next which I believe is due out in November.
