Noisy, but Consumer Reports says that's normal for portables. Given that, I am satisfied.
I had no choice but to buy a portable for my smallish living room. I live in a building full of elderly people. I am 75y/o, and I have not had anyone at all in my apartment since before March 13th. (My family gets together via Zoom) Besides, I could not find a professional willing to install an air conditioner indoors. They only come to work on outdoor units. No one said whether or not that was due to the lockdown. This Honeywell unit is light enough that I could drag the box down the hall to my door and get it working with no help.Consumer Reports says that portable air conditioners tend to be noisy and inefficient compared to window air conditioners. A good article on the October 1, 2017 Federal Trade Commission (FTC) standard (ashrae-128) for portable air conditioners explains that single hose portables are less efficient because they draw in air from the room--through any cracks--and blow it out a window, much hotter of course, through the hose. This one in particular looks to be on the low ashrae-128 rating side. Window air conditioners and double hose portables draw air directly from outdoors and blow it back out much hotter than it was. So single hose portables have to do double duty, cooling the room and cooling the air they draw into the room to blow out. It occurs to me that I might leave my door to the hallway open a crack for that. The building does not have central air, obviously, but the hallways are air conditioned. The remote that came with this unit works. Note that it works by infrared like an old TV remote: That means it has to be in the line of sight with the front of the unit--no problem for me, especially since I use a PC and not a smartphone with wi-fi.I set a certain temperature and let the air conditioner turn on and off. The temperature has stayed steady at what I have set--about 77 degrees F. I live on the top floor of a six story brick building with a flat roof that gets very hot on sunny days. My windows face west toward the afternoon sun. I use blackout curtains, which do help, The outside temperature in the shade has gotten hot since I got the unit running nine days ago. I expect it will get about six or seven degrees hotter most days from now through September. Running on automatic, as I said, the air conditioner has been off (i.e., running on fan only) more of the time than it has been on, so I think there is reason to hope that it will keep on doing the job even if it has to run more of the time. The adapter has one essential part and two optional parts for different size window frames. My vertical sliding window calls for 46 inches in length, almost the full length. It works.I used strong packaging tape to seal the spaces between the adapter and the metal window frame, doing no damage. If the window frame were wood than I suppose I would have needed the inexpensive optional foam sealer that is shown on this page, sold separately.I am very glad that I have high quality noise cancellation headphones. I am sensitive to noise, and I doubt that I could stand it without either those headphones or ear plugs. I wear ear plugs when I am sleeping. After I bought this I discovered that Consumer Reports rates the Whynter ARC-12SDH portable higher for predicted reliability than what appears to be the previous version of this same Honeywell unit, but the difference is small--10 for the Whynter and 9 for the Honeywell. Owner satisfaction is 5 out of 10 for four of those rated, including both of these. A fifth brand's model is rated 4 out of 10 for owner satisfaction. So far the unit has succeeded in blowing the water it draws from the air out the hose and out the window. In other words I have not had to drain it. I hope that will continue. It has kept the room humidity at about 50 percent.I have not tried the dehumidifier function alone. I may never get around to doing that. The unit I bought is black, not white. I think it looks nice. I suppose the colors are irrelevant to the operation.Given the known limitations of portable air conditioners, I am satisfied.,

Blows cold
Somewhat easy to install but for how much it cost and how mush space it takes up, it takes a while to cool down the whole room.

UPDATED Cools fast - Questionable drain pan
UPDATE (5-28-20) - After contacting Amazon on 5-7-20 I was told a replacement unit would be shipped on May 31 to arrive beginning of June. To my surprise the unit was actually shipped the next day & I received it on May 14th. It has once again been very hot & humid here but the new unit works perfectly. After about 1 week of use I drained the unit of about 2oz of water proving the evaporation system is working as it should. I would add another star or 2 to the rating if I could because I am pleased beyond expectation with the A/C's performance and service provided. (I did purchase Asurion extended protection with the original unit and the plan was transferred to the new unit with no difficulty at all.)Original review : I live in California & purchased this unit about 1 week ago. We have had unseasonably high temps (94-99) with high humidity for several days during that time. The AC works far better than the Wynter I purchased 2 years back and I am extremely pleased with how efficiently it cools. I am concerned because even on days the humidity has been reasonably low the unit needs to be drained after about 20 - 30 minutes of use in AC mode. I am uncertain if this is characteristic of this unit or if the auto-evaporation feature is defective. It seems excessive to drain so often (none of my previous units required this action). At this point I intend to contact the manufacturer and will update this review as new information becomes available.UPDATE : I contacted Honeywell & they informed me that even days with extreme humidity the unit should not need to be drained more than once per day. A replacement will be provided and was shipped shortly after alerting Amazon to the issue. This review will be updated again after the new unit is received and tested. Customer service was outstanding so far by both Honeywell and Amazon and there has been no difficulty contacting either.

Solid A/C Unit
This is a solid a/c unit, it's primary purpose is to keep a home office with a lot of computer gear (and raid arrays) at a human comfortable temperature and allow the hardware to operate without issues. It does this job quite well. The biggest nits: the one attempt to contact customer service went unanswered (fortunately I figured it out on my own; the remote control can get out of sync with the unit in (on/off etc); the unit's air intake filters tend to clog up with alarming regularity, canned air helps a lot with this. It will just work less and less efficiently until finally it appears to stop cooling at all. It doesn't have any error messages or feedback. It just slowly stops cooling and makes the occasional weird sound. Once you know what you need to do (canned air or remove & clean the filters), it is back up and running in minutes.

Did not blow my mind!
It is good looking, well build, and blows cold air. It is easy to install. However, I live in the dry south. It does not work quite as well for us. It claims to cover 700 square and I'm sure it might do so if the room is completely sealed and very well insulated in a not so hot day running it for a long while. To be fair, let me explain the placement and my expectations. It is a desert climate that gets to 100-102 degrees in the middle of the day and about mid-70s in the morning. It was placed in my 550 sq feet garage gym as many of you are probably doing now in this pandemic. It is a double garage. It is sheetrock but not insulated. Garage doors close well but garage doors usually are not 100% sealed. Now that you have sort of a picture of the condition let me tell you how it works in this large room. In the middle of the day forget it, it does not cool at all or even move the needle down a bit. In the mornings after an hour, it cools it about 5 to 7 degrees and keeps around there unless the day starts to heat up. I'm sure it would work fine in a totally insulated room as additional help from the refrigerated air or much smaller room like 300 sq feet or so in extreme south dry desert weather.
