I purchased that book recently. When i observed Heer\Luft\Kriegsmarine tableware it was interesting. But when i opened chapter with ss items i was shocked. Almost all spoons\forks are fakes. I made a photos of pages and posted them on military forum for discussion. The responces confirmed that ss items are fake.

an error interpreting German silver marks
I do not have a copy of this book, but I read some excerpts of it online at GoogleBooks. One in particular caught my attention...On page 439, there is a section headed, "Circle / Square marking mystery solved..." The section is in reference to numbers stamped on silverware produced by two German manufacturers: Wellner in Aue and WMF (Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik) in Geislingen. As a collector of vintage WMF, I'm familiar with German silver marks, and I'm sorry to report that Yannes has partially erred in his interpretation.Yannes is correct that the 90, 100, etc. figures "in circles" (multiples of 10, ranging from 20 to 150) refer to various standardized thicknesses of silver-plating, but he is incorrect in concluding that the other numbers, the ones "in squares," refer to the style of the piece. These other numbers actually refer to the number of grams of silver used to plate the particular piece. The larger the piece, the more silver used, and the higher the number, as will be evident when examining the various pieces of a particular pattern. Also, these numbers may be stamped inside a <rhomboid> or be free-standing, not just inside a [square]. One twist to the system is that the number of grams shown may refer to the amount used to plate one piece or to plate a dozen pieces -- obviously, common sense will tell you which. For all I know, this may be the only flaw in the book, so please don't prejudge the entire book by this criticism. I was searching Google on WMF when I found the book, and those were the only sections I read.
