Very Secure

I've been using these locks for a bit now and they have performed well. Some users have reported difficulties with opening and even broken keys. It is true that these locks don't open as easily as a standard padlock but that's kind of the point. Isn't it?To open you turn the key clockwise about a quarter turn or so. That releases the shackle. Then you turn the lock around 180 degrees and turn the key back to the starting position and about a quarter turn anti clockwise. At this point the lock should come free of the shackle completely. To relock it simply do the steps in reverse. If you want the lock to function like a regular padlock simply remove the guard from the shackle and use as you normally would.Pros:A hard steel guard covers most of the shackle making cutting the lock off much more difficult. The complex unlocking sequence, while only somewhat cumbersome with the key, is a nightmare for picking (I've tried it).Cons:The lock has a learning curve but honestly not more than a few minutes of practice. Once you get it it's a piece of cake 🎂.The lock is probably a higher carbon steel. while this is good for cutting resistance it does make it more prone to rusting and if used outdoors will need periodic cleaning and maintenance. (I flush the lock with carburetor cleaner and swap with a cotton swab, then give it a generous lubrication with WD-40 or some equivalent)

Highly secure, operation takes some getting used to

Difficult to use, yes. Definitely takes some practice and won’t fit on all storage units because of the shackle guard but that’s the idea. Tough to mess with so it deters. No way anybody is breaking this off my storage unit, it would honestly be easier to just cut the door apart. Heavy duty and has lasted over a year in the Seattle rain with no issues. Will be buying another one for my trailer once I pull the crap out of my storage unit.

It's a secure lock and a good buy.

The media could not be loaded. I needed a lock to secure my bike. I bought this particular lock primarily because of a review of it by a superb lock picker on You Tube called "The LockPickingLawyer," who is clearly an informed lock guy and talented picker. He described this lock as "...the most impressive security wise laminated padlock that I've seen in a while." He also said, "...from the usability standpoint it's a bit of a pain in the butt." And I think he's right on both counts. It does strike me as a rather smart design (security wise), it's well built, and it looks pretty cool. But it can be a tad cumbersome to deal with, the lock comes apart in 3 pieces when locking/unlocking (shackle/guard/lock body). But for someone like me who lives a slow lifestyle taking a few extra seconds to "assemble" the lock is no big deal. But if I were a guy in a hurry I might find it a bit annoying to have to deal with the few added steps--and pieces-- it takes for locking and unlocking. At first I thought, no way am I going through this every time. But after about five practices I found to be not much more effort than your typical padlock. The pay off in this arrangement is that the key has to be turned twice for unlocking (and locking), and so any picker has the added pain of having to get past this double locking action to remove the shackle and guard. And considering how easy most padlocks can be picked by a good picker this feature seemed rather important to me. Even a novice picker might get lucky and "rake" it open, but then they'd have to get lucky twice. To me this is almost like having 2 locks in one. I like the shackle guard for the protection it gives against cutting or brute forcing the shackle. I also like that the lock has rubber padding around the bottom to prevent scratching your goods.I think this was a good buy. It seemed the optimal choice for locking my $275.00 bike, and I reviewed dozens of padlocks in the 25-$50 price range. No bike is ever 100% secure from theft, but at least I can feel confident I made the best security effort all things considered. And that's really all we can do, right? Rating a product is a very subjective thing. I give it four stars, only because 3 seems too few and 5 seems too many. I'm attaching a short vid of me using it. Please excuse the black and white tape. The small white tape is so I can quickly identify which side the longer shackle end goes in.

Ordered a new lock, gave me a used one.

I mean the build quality is great and this is exactly what I'm looking for, but it's a used product. Granted it's a lock and it isn't that worn, but I bought it for new and they gave me something that was clearly used/returned, which I guess explained why it arrived so soon- it was just unexpected. Great lock, figuring how it works exactly will take some getting used to when it comes to getting the shackle/shackleguard off but it was unexpected getting a pre-owned product.

The keys

Ok, I’ve had this lock for a while now and it still remains to be my favorite lock. I love the three piece design. With that said, in my eyes it had two major flaws. The first one is the keys. You can take that key down to any hardware store and have another one made, some people might think , oh that’s great, but if someone you know steals your Key to make copies so they can gain access, this key is a bummer! I took the lock down to my local lock smith and they were impressed, with the Barron shackle which you can’t cut through very easily and one of my lock smiths said he tried to pick it but could not do it! Which left me impressed. So, number two, I took it in to have it rekeyed and they said they couldn’t rekey it. So, now I am left with a lock that I get nervous to use because I am pretty sure a copy was made! Oh, I also bought the two pack and they were keyed the same so now essentially I have two locks that I can’t use. If it weren’t for the very generic key, offered at many hardware stores, I would have to say these are the best locks made for the price I could afford, which I am thankful they made them affordable ! if you get these locks and decide that you don’t like them because a are too hard to use, please reconsider. They are hard to use for a reason. You, the owner will get fast at using them but a thief with struggle and give up before they even get them apart. just practice with them before deciding to return them. They have a great how to video to help.
