Hard Disk Enclosure,mSATA SSD to 2.5-Inch 44-Pin IDE Adapter with Shell,Stable Performance,Laptop PATA/IDE Hard Drive Shell Adapter (Black)

I tried this with two different mSATA SSDs and with both of them the chip on this adapter started heating up so much that it melted the enclosure within a minute or two (see pics). Luckily I smelled it quickly and powered down both times before any more damage was done. I used one of the mSATA drives in a different adapter and it’s working fine with no heat issues. So it’s definitely this adapter that is the issue. Maybe I got a bad one - I’m returning it and trying a different item. I’d be really careful if leaving a machine on running one of these.

Still need my old D400 laptop ( XP) to run some old test equipment ! Tried 3 used or New OLD stock mechanical HDs and none worked !. They stopped making IDE drives MANY years ago !This MSATA SSD to IDE interface box worked perfectly ! Even the disk activity indicator still works ! Perfect fit into the laptop tray that holds the old IDE Hard Drive ! Exact form factor is not that important if this goes inside the Laptop ( generally) , however the D400 HD fits into a special tray that slides into the side of the laptop. ( see pictures) Don't spend lots of $$ on state of the practice SSD ! Remember that the IDE interface is much slower than the SATA HD/SSD interfaces of today ! I purchased a 2D NAND SSD for less that $20 and the laptop interface cant even keep up with that low end speed SSD ! Restored the Backup to this interface box with the MSATA SSD and it fit right into the Laptop Slot perfectly !Great product for its cost and really fills a need if your trying to keep you old IDE laptop running.Don't waste your time on trying to find a replacement mechanical HD that could be at least 10 years old. Even if advertised as NEW OLD stock , its been laying around for many Years !!!Thanks ... great product !
