Gingbau Squirrel Trap Foldable Heavy Duty Humane Live Animal Cage Trap (Not for Mouse)

The Gingbau Heavy Duty Live Animal Trap is a must-have if you have a rodent problem. Don't get me wrong, I love squirrels, and they are adorable little jerks who are fun to watch scamper across my fences. But once they step furry little foot into my yard, they are little @-holes. They dug up my vegetable garden in search of the perfect place to bury nuts, only to dig up the garden again and again and again because they kept finding nuts and forgetting where they buried them. They raided my fruit trees and hurled down half-eaten fruit like grenades. I swear, I think I hear them partying in my attic one day with their little rat buddies. I initially tried giant squirrel snap traps only to find that they don't work. Squirrels are simply too fast and will duck out snap traps like furry little ningas. This trap, however, caught five squirrels over a period of four days. The efficacy of this trap is nothing short of amazing. I actually saw a trapping in action as the squirrel climbed all over the cage, slowly crept in, and got caught once he got a bite of the sweet, sweet peanut butter and walnuts inside. The trap is not easy to set off from the outside but has a light trigger from the inside, making it effective as heck. What you do with the squirrels after is up to you....you can either rideshare them over to make them someone else's problem or play mafia with them and let 'em sleep with the fishes. I can only say that the don here didn't appreciate these little rats with bushy tails trespassing on our territories, disrespecting the property. The trap is easy to set up initially, is very easy to reset, and the only issue that I found is that you might need a small dish to put the bait in. I used a take-out container lid, and it worked great - according to Mark Rober, walnuts are key. I found nut butter as an offering upped the ante significantly as well. Overall, this is a fantastic trap that was worth every single cent that I paid. If it happens to rust out or break, I would still buy it again because it's effective.

Updated after a week's use: I have relocated 12 squirrels since receiving this incredible trap a week ago. I trapped 3 last Sunday morning alone (granted the trap was positioned beneath my friends bird feeder, which had become squirrel central). I captured another 9 from my yard (two a day has been pretty common). Those reviews that say the trap won't close must have either received a defective one or, more likely, don't understand how to set the trap door's latch. I've added a picture. The latch (the instructions call it the "pot hook") slips beneath a rail on the door from the back. Very little pressure on the plate will trip the trap's door. Once closed there's a sturdy bar that keeps the door firmly locked. No way can it be forced open from inside. The cage is incredibly rugged. The medium size is perfect for the squirrels in my yard, but I doubt this size would work for chipmunks. Other reviews have noted that opening the trap door to release your "trappee" is a bit hairy since you need two hands to compress the spring that holds the door locked, then you need to keep the spring compressed while lifting the door. I created a "C" shaped clip bent from a length of finishing nail which loops around the spring locking bar and a rail on the door and keeps the spring compressed so that both hands are then free. I attached a short wooden handle to this clip. The opening in the "C" clip is around 1/2 inch. The handle allows me to install this clip with one hand while holding the spring compressed with the other hand. The release procedure, which, after 12 critters I have now gotten down to around 1 minute, goes like this: - carry trap in my IKEA bag to the squirrel resort I've started at a nearby pond (located 1.5 miles away which I assume is far enough?) - tilt trap to vertical position with door at top and critter on bottom - compress door spring. Two hands are needed to start, one to compress the spring and the other to slide down the spring locking bar. Once the spring is flat against the door you only need a single hand to keep it compressed. - Using free hand, install C clip on spring and door to keep spring compressed. - lift door lip slightly and attach large spring clamp (shown in picture. Home Depot sells these for $1) to provide additional handle when opening door. - tilt trap towards horizontal and, at about the 30 degree point, open the door. - at this point the trap will suddenly become unoccupied. I've only had one that needed only the slightest encouragement. The other 11 were furry gray streaks. So, the good news is this trap works well ... that's also the bad news since I'm getting a bit weary of this new career as a squirrel UBER driver. In fact, I just took a moment to check my trap to find yet another occupant. So this is the 5th day since starting this project that I've had a double occupancy day, ... so the count's now 13! Original review: This trap is the bee's knees, and the squirrels' scourge . Simple to assemble, a little tricky to set, but boy did it work FAST. Caught first of the obnoxious pests the first day out. A few peanuts inside near the back and a couple outside as lure. I haven't had a chance yet to transport and release my first victim so I will update this review a bit later with how this goes, I will also add a few pictures and comments regarding how to set the trap-door correctly since there are too many negative reviews that incorrectly report that this trap doesn't work. Most likely this results from not understanding how to engage the trap release arm. When done correctly then the very little weight is needed on the release plate. The negative review that says "hook holding door does just that... it holds the door open and the trap can not activate" has clearly not understood how to arm the trap. I'll add a picture showing the trap armed since the instructions included were not very clear on this point. The trap comes collapsed (in a flat carton) and assembly is simple. Only one side opens, and there are clips included which you can use to firmly latch the back fixed door in place. There's a locking arm that's used to keep the trap stable after assembling and I used some wire ties at the bottom to make sure this arm stayed put. I also have one of those large nylon IKEA tote bags (called FRAKTA) which is the perfect size to carry the assembled trap with it's occupant during the deportation process. Once the trap is occupied this bag also works to provide the incarcerated critter with some stress relieving solitude until it's relocation time. These bags come in bright neon orange too, but the blue seems more soothing.

Worked well caught 2 nuisance squirrels the same day. The only complaint is when you release a squirrel your hands are close to the animal as the release is on the trap door, heavy gloves are a must.

Have been dealing with a horrible infestation of aggressive squirrels that have gotten into our house, and general repellant options have been minimal to marginally affective. But these simplistic traps, mixed with a bait, have made an immediate and noticeable change in their presence within a couple weeks. They're easy to use and deploy, they snap close with little weight application and allow for easy relocation and release (use gloves for safety of course).

Over a two-week period I was able to trap 26 grey tree squirrels using this trap. It has a sensitive trip rod and closes lightning fast behind the animal, but it doesn't make a loud sound when it snaps shut. When it arrived the trip lever in the top of the cage was binding and required some adjusting so it had free movement. After it got rained on, I did note some rust forming on the crimped metal fasteners that hold the cage together. Altogether, this trap works great but time will tell how well it holds up to the the elements.

1st use impression. Put it together, could not see from the paper that came with it very well how to set it up. Figured it out. Trying it for Pack Rats in AZ. Set it with nuts and dried fruit. Rat ate all food but did not trigger it.. The tilting platform part that the animals walks on to get to the food, is suppose to trip. It takes a certain amount of weight/force. So maybe too big of a trap for Pack Rat. So I set it so it was like a hair trigger, on the edge right before triggering. This worked a caught my first Pack Rat. Took it to release, but it is not easy to open the door, as it goes in and you have to push it in and up towards the rat. He did run out and all is good. I do recommend once you catch one, to put a towel over the cage so it is not scared while you move it.

Does a good job on Squrils but mice can steel bait and it won't catch them. Also some squrils get s,mart enough to reach through the side of cage and steel bait. Had to place a smaller mesh screen over the sides and back to keep that from happening. So far have caught 2 squirls and 1 opossum and several birds.

We had a squirrel get into the engine compartment of one of our cars and caused $2200 worth of damage. I called my pest control folks and they said they only capture and kill rats and mice not squirrels. I didn’t want to kill the squirrels so I ordered this trap with the intention to relocate them to an oak tree area about 10 miles from my home. I bought one trap and caught six squirrels one each day. The traps performed perfectly. I ordered a second trap and now I’ve caught 10 squirrels within a three week time period. In case you were wondering the bait I use is a JIF peanut butter cup to go with a handful of pecans on top. I cannot recommend this trap enough. It’s easy to set up and works.

This was really easy to assemble and it works brilliantly. I have now re-homed 11 squirrels. The key is the bait - I put a small bowl laced with peanut butter and them some bird seeds in the trap. The squirrels seems to forage in the morning and this is the time I have found the trap occupied.
