Not useful for curbing barking, but excellent for recall
When purchasing, I may not have read closely enough and was under the impression that this was one of those sonic whistles that can't be heard by he human ear. It is quite the opposite - on the setting we have it on, it is actually a little annoying and very loud - but for our "repurposed" use for it, using it to get he dogs' attention is enough. If you are looking for something that will curb barking or jumping, this may not be what you are looking for, at least in my experience. It took a little bit of adjusting to get the right pitch. To be perfectly honest, it did not stop barking one bit - the dogs were more interested in the sound than anything. I was about to send it back when my husband decided to test it out on an off-leash beach outing with the dogs. Ours already have great recall, but occasionally our voices can be lost on a very windy day at the beach or ignored due to a more interesting distraction. We found it a helpful tool to begin associating "come" with the whistle. We are not using it for the intended purpose we had when purchasing, but for the price it is a decent tool to have if you need to get their attention quick.

A good tool: ya gotta train with it for it to work, folks!
There is confusion on here about what/how this tool works. It absolutely does work....read on.Decent tool for the price. It adjusts to set or change the pitch level and seems sturdy. It comes with its own plastic half cover, too. Remember this; it is NOT meant to automatically "mean something" to your dog without using conditioning techniques to have the sound become a conditioned stimulus.Yes....a dog can hear it without training. That is not the issue. Training teaches the dog that the sound means something and it should respond in a specific ( however you choose) way upon hearing it. I see from some of the feedback here some folks thing blowing this whistle will automatically make their dog do things. If you are SUPER LUCKY your dog may respond in some way ( come to you....momentarily stop barking, as two examples) because of the novelty of the sound. If the response is what you seek and you reward that response ( whether you realize it or not) with enough VALUE that behavior will perpetuate through subsequent trials.Don't count on luck, though. Prepare to do some training so the whistle will cause your dog to do the behavior you want.

Quiets neighbor's dog sometimes
I bought this to see if I could decrease the barking of my neighbor's chihuahua. My family is seriously sleep deprived and the neighbors were unresponsive to my polite requests to quiet the dog at night. I've been blowing this toward the dog from about 40ft away every time it barks outside. To me the whistle sounds like someone who can't really whistle trying to whistle. It's very faint. I'm a 35 year old with normal hearing. My kids can hear it very well and get irritated when I blow it. So does the dog. The dog's response to the whistle depends on why it's barking. If it's barking at something, like kids or cars or a squirrel, then the whistle shuts it up. If it's barking to get back inside, which is most often the case here, it just makes it bark more because it wants to get away from the whistle. Based on how much this dog seems to dislike the sound, I'd bet it is a useful tool for training your own dog. It's important to point out that I had to adjust the pitch until I found the one that made the dog stop. Also, it may work better since it's a small dog. I've read that larger dogs are less responsive to these high pitch whistles. Hope that helps!

Didn't work
Thought I'd give it a try since it was cheap even though there were mixed reviews. Can't change pitch, easy for humans to hear, the dogs don't seem to even notice it. Will keep looking for a different product.

THIS THING WORKS!
I was having trouble getting my 6 month old Golden Doodle to come if his neighbor dog was in his backyard as well. I bought this and in one training session he already comes regardless of the distraction. It is important to note that I only use this whistle when I am going to give him an EXTREMELY high reward. The only time I ever give him people food (cheese, deer meat, etc.) is when I use this whistle for my emergency recall, so he comes EVERY time I blow it. This morning he was chasing a squirrel and there was no way he was going to come inside, that is until I pulled out my handy dandy dog whistle! Yesterday I used it at the dog park to call him away from other dogs, which is another situation where he never comes, and he came sprinting back to me immediately! The whistle works well, is loud, adjustable, and seems to be quality built. It comes with some helpful instructions on how to change the pitch to a level that your dog responds. I like these manufacturers because they seem like they really love dogs and they want to give a quality product to help reinforce more positive dog training. I highly recommend this product. I haven't written an Amazon product in YEARS if that helps convince you how much I like this product! I also recommend you watch YouTube videos on how to properly train your dog to a whistle, it'll make training 1000 times easier (it only took one session for me!).

NOT a silent whistle
I have a neighbor with two large dogs that are allowed to bark incessantly all. The. Time. Did I mention their barks are LOUD? I have put up with this for two years now. The neighbors do nothing to curtail the barking. All. The. Time. I was out in the backyard doing what I like to do. You know, enjoy the peace and quiet? Well. I tried the whistle a couple of times and it is NOT silent like the description states. The neighbor said something to his wife along the lines of what is she doing to our dogs? I will see how it goes. Just beware. This whistle is NOT silent. Did I miss that in the description?
