My main concerns (because I can't not overthink things) was as to the quality and it having a faux-metal base. But the base is indeed brushed metal, and the lampshade thick glass. It also comes with a "retro-style" lightbulb. Complaints from some reviews about the the whole shade not being illuminated are probably expecting a strip light in the shade, but this is the old-school mid-century style where the bulb attaches from the side of the lamp, so yes, the right side of the shade will not be fully illuminated because it is "beneath" the bulb. I like the original feel, its decently heavy, and I'm very happy with it.
