Red Devil 1170 PLEXIGLASS Scoring Tool

I have a feeling that the people giving this low marks don't know how to use it properly or didn't read the instructions on the package. When used as directed, it's great. It worked perfectly for me to cut a few smaller pieces out of a sheet of Plexiglass. It seems well made and has a good weight in the hand (that's what she said!). Just remember, this is not a CUTTING tool. It will not and is not supposed to cut through the plastic. Its purpose is to create a very sharp and accurate scribe mark on the plastic so that when you bend along the scribe it will cleanly snap off. And you will need to make several passes to get it deep enough. So just do what it says in the instructions and you shouldn't have any issues at all.

I am giving this four stars because using it as described on the package, it didn't work well for me. I believe that someone with more experience and skill would be better at rating this. I had difficulty keeping the cuts straight, so the scoring depth might have been too shallow and inconsistent. I ended up with broken edges on two of the three cuts, which I attribute mostly to myself. However, if you have not done this before, it is not easy, so be aware!

I bought the Red Devil tool from Amazon to cut some Polycarbonate and Acrylic sheets of various sizes and thicknesses. The concept is great, but the tool was SO DULL when it came that it did NOT work. The first cut I made failed (the acrylic sheet broke in pieces). I took a closer look at this cutting tool and discovered it was too dull to scribe the line properly. I happen to own a good metal file and so I sharpened the Red Devil tool. After that, it worked great. So, if you buy one... check that it is sharp before you ruin a $45 sheet of Acrylic like I did!

Ordered myself a Matte Box For my Mirrorless Camera, and needed filters. Only found super expensive or very low priced sets made of PMMA. The PMMA filters were also larger than what my matte box would support. Idea! Find a tool to cut them down. Well it worked. See photos from when I fitted the filters after cutting. Also took a small Dremel and ground down the edges. This worked out perfectly for my small project, well worth the cost of the tool. Overall the tool fits good in the hand. Even has a small hole in the top of the handle for you to hang on a hook. Hope this was helpful.

I got this today and I'm not sure that this is actually a plexiglass scoring tool. I have used several of the real cheap thin plastid handle tools, with great success in the past. Even though after a while the blades get dull I thought I'd upgrade to a good thick fixed handle tool. It came in an already opened package but did not appear to have been heavily used. I layed out my sheet to cut and was instantly surprised as the cutter did not dig into the material at all. Looking at the cutter I noticed its rounded where it should be pointed! I tried using it at different angles but no help. Upon looking closely at the blade it's machined into a rounded edge and the "sharp" long edge part of the blade is trash! packages says beware of sharp edge, there isn't one. I just ordered a cheap one here on Amazon like I usually do. will send this one back.

I build picture frames for my wife's artwork, and have struggled cutting the plexiglass. I clamped a heavy T square to the plexiglass and scored along the edge 10 plus times. On my first attempt, I hadn't scored the edges enough, so it was a jagged break. On my second attempt, I carefully scored the edges, in both directions, and had a very clean break. NOTE: this is a scoring tool, not a cutting tool, so follow the directions.

Ich habe den Cutter jetzt schon eine Weile in Benutzung und er ist nicht richtig zu gebrauchen, er ist sehr wertig und stabil, man kann ihn mit einem LKW überrollen und er geht sicher nicht kaputt. Allerdings ist die Schneide wo man das Acryl ankratzt viel zu breit, wenn ich ein 3 mm Acryl brechen will muss ich von beiden Seiten sehr oft kratzen bis ich ein einigermaßen gutes Ergebnis habe, dann ist die Kante aber sehr unsauber und muss noch lange gefeilt werden bis sie Plan ist. Ich hab mir jetzt einen anderen bei Amazon bestellt der 11.98 EUR kostet hier ist die Schneide sehr dünn, der Span der gebildet wird ist sehr viel mehr als bei dem Red Devil. Ich kratze 5x auf einer Seite und das 3 mm Acryl bricht sauber. Der bessere Cutter ist: Cutter Größe Glas Kunststoff PVC strapazierfähig. Mit Messer und 2 Ersatzklingen. In Blister.

It’s not suitable for plexiglass at all, and the blade isn’t very sharp either. It can barely make a scratch, even with effort.

This was not sharp and the package was open
