Get zip ties.
The snappy things that come with it will not hold these together alone. You'll need to zip-tie it together too. But it is sturdy if you use zip ties, and I used it for my guineapigs for the 1 year until I rehomed them.

Lots of uses for these storage cubes
I just ordered a set of these but have also bought them in the past. They're great for storage cubes as were intended, but the plastic covered wire panels also have some other great uses. We've used them as barriers to keep small pets from getting into a room that's off limits. Instead of using the little corner units that come with them to hold them together, we use plastic electrical ties Gardner Bender 46-330UVB Electrical 30-Inch Heavy Duty Black UV Resistant Cable Ties, 25-Pack which are much sturdier. You can connect several of these panels together in a single row to make a flexible "fence". It worked great for our mini dachshunds when they were young and we wanted to keep them in the family room where we could see them. I have friends who used them to keep other small dogs in or out of an area. You can stack them two high for this purpose as well. We used them outdoors between the house and patio wall to keep the dachshunds from wandering. We've also used them at the top of our balcony next to the stairs to keep a young kitten from wandering and falling off the landing. I posted some photos of this on the main product page. We just fasten a row of them with the electrical ties and fasten them to the rail posts the same way. Kittens can climb over them, but it keeps them from wandering and falling or getting chased by other cats and falling accidentally.I've also stacked and connected them with the electrical ties and used them to hold up large tomato plants. They make a great cage and you can make it as large as you want.

Beyond stars!
This was the perfect and most portable item ever purchased when traveling and putting up my models! You can put it facing forward or ‘backwards’ and my items were still visible and protected as people walked by my booth. Easy to put together once you figure out where the parts and pieces go and wallah!!! … you got an awesome stand to show your awesome stuff to awesome people! (Just don’t lose any pieces!)

Great for inexpensive storage
Safco Products Wire Cubes, Black (5279BL) These cubes were shipped promptly and well-packed without extraneous styrofoam and such. Assembly instructions were clear and easy to follow. I did not have any issues with the connectors as some have noted in their reviews. However, being forewarned from reading all these reviews, I was careful to ensure the panels were properly aligned in the connector slots and that they seated completely. You need to hear a click or they are not all the way in. The cubes seem absolutely sturdy, and look exactly like I anticipated. I am very satisfied. That being said, I was chagrined to realize that the corner connectors protrude into the cube space so as to effectively reduce usable width by more than one inch. I intended to place them 2 on 2 underneath a table in a guest room in my summer cottage, with a pull-out bin in each space, in place of a dresser. I had purchased attractive fabric-covered 13 x 13 bins, to put in the 14 x 14 cubes. With the front corner connectors taking up space in the cube openings, these bins can't be pulled out. Fortunately I was able to replace the front connectors with the shelf clips so my bins do work the way I planned and it doesn't affect the sturdiness. If I had known how much actual cube space there is, I might have planned differently. I do think this is a good product especially for the price.

Useful but unclear on assembly
I bought these to make a C&C guinea pig cage, a use for which they aren't intended but still work very well. My guinea pigs have not escaped - and for those in the know, this brand has exactly the right number and size of holes per grids - and it offers ample opportunity to expand and rearrange their cage. The reason I gave four stars and not five is that there was no mention in the packaging I got of the force required to lock them together. I still haven't managed to lock them in, and so the cage snaps apart very easily. For the most part this isn't a problem, as the pigs are contained by a plastic box inside the grids, but it would be a terrible problem for someone building a second storey or just using them for their intended purpose as shelves. Because they make a clicking sound when they go into the connectors, and seem to budge no further, it's entirely reasonable that people would assume that they were locked in. They look like they're in, they sound like they're in, but they're not. I would have assumed they were defective too if not for the multitude of reviews online that mention the extreme force. All in all a very useful product with some information/assembly problems.

Good set, but needs more connectors
I bought these wire cubes to use for an art display at a convention, after a recommendation from other artists. Safco had one of the best prices on Amazon, for a product that turned out excellent for my purposes. I like the shelf connectors, as they hold the shelves in place without being impossible to remove, unlike other sets I've seen. The corner connectors are also fairly easy to snap together, though they require some pressure and aren't always the easiest to remove again. They're a little hard on the hands as well. The biggest drawback to this set, for my purposes, is that there aren't quite enough corner connectors for much beyond the standard four- or five-cube arrangement, and Safco does not appear to easily supply additional corner connectors. None are available on Amazon, and despite Safco's website mentioning alternate vendors for the connectors, there are none within an hour's drive from my home. The nearest ones, also, only supply to retailers and other large business entities, not individuals. Some connectors from other sets may fit, but the wire squares may be too large or small to work with most. For a basic storage unit, this is a great buy. For fancier, larger arrangements, more connectors are needed.

Satisfactory
The product was fairly easy to put together but as I was assembling it one of the clips snapped into two pieces. It is not as sturdy as advertised, but will do just fine as a closet shelf for clothing.

Excellent for keeping the small things off the floor and desk space
A fantastic product that has managed to keep my son's dorm room from becoming a total waste land.

They've improved over time (but not maintained compatibility)
I bought two sets of these about a year and a half apart. On the upside, I found the quality of the second set better than the first, with fewer rough edges in the manufacturing, sturdier connectors, and better overall quality. The downside is that the claim that you can fit multiple sets together isn't quite true across versions - they increased the dimensions of the cubes very slightly, and it's significant enough that the older ones won't fit into the connectors at the distance the new ones hold them apart. I managed to *sort of* make them go together, but I was very careful to ensure that I put the older set on top of the newer ones, and to secure it with several cable ties as it didn't really sit in the older ones properly. I only put lighter items in the top set to be on the safe side.Overall I think the quality is about average - it's fairly sturdy for something which is so modular and snaps together with little plastic connectors, but I would worry about putting something heavy on anything but the lowest two layers of cubes.

used for C&C cage
I've used these to make a C&C cage for our guinea pig family. I love how versatile these are and how we've are able to expand the cage as the GPs grow. They love how much space they have to "popcorn" and run around in. We have two storeys (using two of the grids and a piece of carpet to make a ramp) and they run up and down madly. It might be necessary to build another storey when they get big but these slot together and unslot very easily so it wouldn't be difficult.

Perfect For Artist Sale Displays
As a freelance artist, I quite often do convention tables where I sell small items such as prints, charms and the odd bit of clothing. These are the perfect thing for using as a display stand! They go up and come down again in minutes, pack into a small box and are very sturdy. One pack is enough to make a very substantial display! The only qualm I have is that the little connectors are very fragile, and break more often than they work, but are not 100% necessary for functionality. Some of the larger connectors are also very stiff, so the frames do not sit properly or are impossible to get in. Other than that, they are great.
