Ordinarily, physically crashing your laptop until the lid breaks means getting a new computer. In this case, everything worked fine and all it needed was a part that cost 13 bucks and change. I got the lid four days earlier than expected and got right to work. It's a new computer now and I finally got rid of that horrible pseudo velvet lime colored lid that felt like I pulled it out of the garden.
