I always buy the three pack as it is the most economical. The foam itself works great as I put the coarse down in my filter first and then the medium. However there is a problem. I have included a photo of the most recent and the last package I purchased. Same exact LTW item from honest-f, fulfilled by Amazon. No matter what answers others have posted to this question you can CLEARLY see that one insert lists the black as coarse, blue as medium while the other is showing blue as coarse and black as medium. I took a picture of both inserts so you can see the description seems to change all the time. Yes I know the question has been answered many times but if the manufacturer keeps putting out either wrong inserts or changes foam density based on packaging it is hard to constantly remember which is which. Otherwise overall the product works as expected but needs a consistent labeling or manufacturing system.

In all, this is a great deal for aquarium foam. That said, there isn't much difference in the coarseness of the filters from coarse to medium to fine. As a result, I end up buying fine filter media from other vendors and I use these to represent coarse and medium filtration.It's still totally worth the purchase vs spending a lot more money for "branded" foam filters.

Took me a long time to cut these and didn't do a perfect job, I guess if your a pro with scissors then this might be good for you, just wasn't worth the effort for me. I really hope I'm wrong and it does wonders for my tank but we'll see.I just wanted to say after adding these my tannins went away, could be coincidence or timing because I never changed my sponges but hey I'll take that as a plus. I would buy this again so raising from 2 to 4 stars. There's no coarse as others have mentioned but wasn't a big problem as I didn't need them.

This stuff is awesome! Cheapest I can find it while still getting quality foam. All three are slightly different ppm the blue seems to be the coarsest, then black, then green. Amazing stuff works for all aquarium filters and perfect for the fluval FX series!

Perfect for trimming down and using in different filters. I cut them down to use in a Fluval FX6. Each piece will yeild 3 strips for that filter with very little trim left over.

Product as stated and work perfectly. Good value for money.I have odd shaped filters, so I held an original onto a plastic breadboard and draw an outline.Cut it out to make a template and now have a 3 stage filter for heaps cheaper than a crappy original.
