Great kit for a beginner. Which is what it was for me. Reasonably sharp tools right out of the box. They seem pretty well made. It’s a solid purchase for the price.

It was purchased for my husband who has taken up whittling. He enjoyed this kit and I get a pretty spoon. Decent knives and a stencil were included with the wood.

It was hard to carve, but fun and I won a blue ribbon at the fair.

Plans and included wood blank helps to make this a great project. While the knives included with the kit were good if you had none, I used other more expensive knives for most of the carving. This is not to detract from the knives that come with the kit if you have non!

The curled knife to use to dig out. The spoon area was not very sharp. The straight knife was sharp. And the rest of the kit was OK.

This kits has everthingbthingbyou need a from a lite paper ruler to band aids. There's a QR code link to a video tutorial but I never used it as the instruction booklet was so good

Saying this is for “beginners” seems extremely off-base. I purchased this from Amazon and it has proven to be immensely challenging. Part of the issue is the woefully inadequate instructions. After reviewing the booklet and video and an article on the company’s website, there are nowhere near enough directions for a beginner to accomplish this. In fact, I’m now convinced this “kit” doesn’t even include the tools that would be necessary to complete this project. The FAQs for this item on the company’s website state “ To carve a Welsh love spoon, you will need …. a carving knife, a gouge, a V-tool, and a saw.” The “kit” does not include all these tools. Of particular concern is how in the world to remove the very small sections from the center area to achieve this intricate design with only the knife provided. The “instructions” do not speak to this in any meaningful way, especially not in any way that would be helpful for a beginner. I suspect tools not included in the kit would be critical for those steps. Overall, incredibly frustrating and disappointing. It seems like, at the bare minimum, this “kit” should be labeled for the correct experience level, include meaningful instructions on the techniques needed to be successful, include all tools necessary, and/or specifically identify additional tools that would be needed to achieve the finished product shown. I’ve also purchased the comfort bird kit which I’m hopeful is more realistic for a beginner.

Let those creative juices flow! This is a perfect gift for anyone handy or that has voiced an interest in woodworking. Easy to use, beginer friendly because it comes with everything you might need, including safety equipment. Super affordable and inspiring gift. You might want one four yourself.
